UWAA Strategic Outcomes: Join Give Volunteer Advocate Experience

MONTHLY SPOTLIGHT: STRONGER TOGETHER

The events of the past weeks and months have touched us all in different and significant ways. And now, more than

ever, the ability to remain connected to one another is vitally important. The UWAA created Stronger Together as a

dynamic online resource for digital content designed to encourage conversations, engage learners, and bring the world

a little bit closer. We have received positive feedback from many alumni and friends and will add additional and

emerging content over time for the benefit of alumni throughout the world.

CURRENT INITIATIVES AND DIGITAL ENGAGEMENT

The UWAA team continues to reframe how we work. Concurrent with initiatives previously underway, the Board of

Trustees and the senior leadership team, in collaboration with key partners, have developed a digital engagement

pivot plan which accelerates and expands many of the new UWAA strategic plan’s virtual and scalable engagement

priorities.

One of example of this quick pivot to digital engagement includes Huskies@Work, one of the UWAA’s signature alumni-

student career services programs. We’re pleased to share that this impactful experience will proceed for the spring

quarter, albeit virtually. In a strong show of support from our Husky community, more than 500 alumni have registered

to virtually host a student, or multiple students, for this unique job shadowing and career connections experience. This

represents a two-fold increase in alumni participation compared to last spring. The program is open to all current

students on each of our campuses and registration for students is ongoing through mid-April.

The virtual UW Alumni Book Club, started last fall, continues to engage more than 1,000 alumni and friends with hand-

picked reads and special experiences with authors and UW faculty. During this time, the Book Club has expanded its

current reads. The club is currently exploring two books, “A Gentleman in Moscow” by Amor Towles and “The Heartbeat

of Wounded Knee” by David Treuer.

Finally, the UWAA Board of Trustees Nominating Committee is continuing the important work of recruiting the next

generation of UWAA board leadership.

UPDATES

As we look ahead, we continue to adapt to our current circumstances and re-position our programming to allow

continued connection between alumni and the University. In addition, our team is focused on providing the class of

2020 with a warm Husky welcome into the alumni community. We look forward to sharing these details with you next

month.

In closing, as this unprecedented crisis expedites innovation in digital-first engagement, it reinforces the value and

impact of building and sustaining community – a 131-year UWAA legacy which will remain unbroken.
