Jack Pepper, who turned 96, had a superb birthday party, coordinated by Irene Ladd and her crew. What a great surprise it was for a man who has contributed so much to this club. Well deserved.

Our St Patrick’s dinner/dance was another success with Paula and Chris B and crew preparing a great meal. Well done girls.

Another great event was the Tea/Fashion show for the benefit of Hospice. Barb Hieb, Linda Jackson and Sally Brault worked tirelessly for days putting this all together. Thank you for a great job for a great cause.

This year we are trying a little something different for Easter. The breakfast will go on as usual on the 31st. Along with breakfast there is a bonnet contest followed by a scavenger hunt. Will follow up on the winners in next months newsletter.

Walden Woods North Spring is finally here; the clocks have all been changed and we all are glad to see the cold temperatures gone for another year.

Last month, we had an excellent St. Patrick’s Day dinner of corned beef and cabbage and many thanks all who attended. With shamrocks abound, all the Leprechauns were very happy. A special thanks to John Simmons and all his helpers for the great meal. All our events would not go as smoothly without the wonderful volunteers at each event. Thanks to you all.

Something new this Spring will be a Community Yard Sale for all on the morning of Saturday April 7. It will be advertised in the Chronicle so hopefully, there will be lots of customers for your sale. Also remember the taste of Walden Woods pot luck dinner on the first Wednesday, the coffee and donuts meeting the first Saturday morning, and the breakfast the second Saturday morning. Walden Woods Limited Homeowners' Association – From the President

Welcome April, and hopefully Spring is not far behind!

Last month your HOAs here in Walden Woods heard back from the DBPR regarding our ongoing prospectus issues with Sun Corp. The ruling from the DBPR was in the HOA and residents favor resulting in that the residents who had an invalid prospectus must be corrected. This has been a direct result of the North and LTD HOA's and the rent committees research and many hours dedicated to this final outcome.

A large part of our success is due to Ed Green and his research that has caused Sun Corp. to review all of the prospectuses that have been given to their properties that they own here in Florida. For those that may ask..what does the HOA do? Here is just one example. I thank everyone involved for their efforts with this cause. We will continue to work with management for improvements and repairs in our community.

Many of our residents will soon be on their way back to their homes in the north and we wish them safe travels.

Please continue to support the social clubs and the events they provide. Remember, it's never too late to join or renew your HOA membership. Also, watch your speed in our community and clean up after your pets.

Thanks and Happy Easter!

Nick Fleischer, President LTD HOA, 724-996-8074

Walden Woods North Homeowners' Association – From the President Here it is April already and our Snow Bird friends are headed North again, or at least preparing to do so. I hope y'all enjoyed your season here as much as we enjoyed having you. Our next HOA meeting will be April 10th at 7:00P.M. in the North Clubhouse. This will be our final meeting as we start our summer schedule. Our meetings will resume in September. As summer progresses we hope to be seeing changes on the North side. We hope to see our Clubhouse remodeled, more picnic tables in the park around the tennis court, tennis court resurfaced with new tables and umbrellas added to the tennis court area, new benches in the dog park, and new street and stop signs in our community. When this process begins our clubhouse will be closed to all activities and events. Your HOA will be keeping you informed as to when these projects will be scheduled. We pray that all those traveling back North will have a safe trip and you that remain will have a safe summer. John Simmons HOA President [email protected] 352-503-2500

Pet of the Month - Oreo

Oreo belongs to sally Brault. He is 10 yrs old. He was purchased at Howard's flea market when we were on vacation visiting Shirley and Chuck Benninger. After he was purchased, we found out he was to small to fly. So Shirley and Chuck drove him to our home in New Jersey. We later purchased our house and decided to move. Now Oreo is back to his home area.

Legends 2018 I would like to express my sincere gratitude to some of the greatest cast members we have ever had and to all who helped put this tenth year together. This year our newest members, Janet & Mike Crocket, Terrie Lance, Charlotte Mixon, Kevin Nickerson, James Smith, Barry & Barb Tripp did a superb job for their first of many shows. Also I would like to acknowledge Burt Nowell along with Jack Pepper for being cast members all ten years with our hopes of many more.

The dinner was put together by Barb Christy and all her volunteers. Great job!

Also I would like to thank Larry Johnson for doing the curtains, Jerry Dickerson and Gary Watson for the lighting, also to Carole Clarke who gave up watching the show to do the makeup.

Now to Bob Crowley, who did the music. No one knows the time he spent putting it all together with his patience with all of us. We can’t thank you enough.

Ed Green, you are one special person to have done all you have done for the Legends for the past ten years. It took hours and hours from start to finish. We all thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Last but not least to all who attended, thank you again.

Canadian Appreciation Cookout

The 2018 "Great Canadian Appreciation Cookout" was held on March 14. There was a great turnout of residents from both parks enjoying the "Northern" hospitality. Many, many thanks to Jim & Mona MacNeill, Ken & Marie Basso, Ron & Marje Overholt, Steve & Ann Marie Lowe, Eric & Sheila Graves, Kevin & Diane Nickerson, Carla & Mike Carlos, and Gordon and Beverly Belcher for a spectacular afternoon of great fun, good food, and fine fellowship. _______________________________________________________________________________________

St Patrick's Day Dinner/Dance

On March 17th at the Limited clubhouse, 100 people gathered to share corned beef & cabbage (known as Irish Spaghetti.) I was shocked to learn that all 100 guests were Irish! Well maybe for one night anyway. It took many hands to cook and serve the food, and then clean up - the teamwork was awesome. The night was a great success thanks to the joyful crowd, Solid Gold, and the leprechauns! Paula Budreau

Tea and Fashion Show Benefit for Citrus County Hospic

The complete set of pictures can be viewed at http://waldenwoodslife.com/events/TeaFash2018.php

On Saturday, March 24th, approximately 85 ladies gathered at the Ltd clubhouse for an afternoon of Tea and a Fashion Show. The ladies enjoyed delicious tea sandwiches prepared under the direction of Coordinator, Sally Brault. Sandwiches included chicken, egg, and tuna salad, and cream cheese with apricot preserves and cream cheese with sliced cucumbers and dill. Eleven hostesses set beautiful tables for their friends and guests and provided a wonderful dessert as well. Each table was unique and many were creatively themed. Thank you so much hostesses.

On to the Fashion Show, 6 ladies from Walden Woods did an outstanding job of modeling fashions from the Cotton Club in Crystal River. We were treated to two rounds of fashion, the first being more casual and the second a little dressier. The Cotton Club also gave everyone in attendance a 15% discount card. If you haven’t been to this shop, you are missing something. They have amazing items, well worth the trip. Thank you again to our models.

Thanks to the generosity of Walden Woods ladies, we collected $1,225 for Hospice.

Special thanks to Barb Heib, Coordinator of the Fashion Show and Linda Jackson, Event Coordiator. Also, thanks to Bob Crowley, Ed Green, Bill Hieb, Bob Moore, Bob Adler, Vera O’Niel, Shirley Benninger and Pat Cleary.

Feel free to leave a message but please include the requested information. This is important to the community in case there is a true disaster that includes Walden Woods or neighboring communities. Ham radios may be the only forms of communicating to emergency services as well as to loved ones in another part of the state or, in another state.

In Memoriam - Doug Campbell

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Doug Campbell. Doug and his wife Marcia moved to Walden Woods in January of 2013. During his time in Walden Woods, Doug gave selflessly to our community and was responsible for maintaining and publishing the Community Phone Directory and distribution of the Sunshine Gazette. Doug passed away early in the morning on March 9, 2018. His memorial service was held March 31, 2018, at Providence Baptist Church in Lecanto. Doug will be missed by everyone in Walden Woods. May he rest in peace with his Lord.

News from your HOA Board Chairman Ed Green

Advertisement: Looking for Walden Woods residents who would like to spend countless hours, working to represent your neighbors concerns with local management. Your reward for such a challenge is only knowing that you cared enough to help others who care.

I attended both HOA meeting on March 13th and I have to say I was extremely disappointed with the lack of attendance. I have never seen an HOA Board of volunteers work so hard in any community and be appreciated less. This year your HOA Board has spent countless hours working to correct numerous prospectus issues, correcting and even reducing base rents, they do this for you and you are too busy to show up once a month to show your support. I know, have seen and heard that many are more concerned about other organizations that they are members of to show up and support your community HOA. I ask myself what will they do for you when something goes wrong where you live?

We have seen communities completely divided by lack of concern and support for their HOA and the community owners take extreme advantage as a result of that. If you don’t think that won’t happen here you have not met the people looking for a way into your pocket. The age-old question “Can you afford not to support your HOA?" Within the last few months we have seen a definite shift in the attitude of Sun Corporate towards their customers. From what I see and hear from the other Sun Communities it has shifted completely away from customer service. We are referring to it as a “Eclipse of the Sun." We hear one thing from them and see a completely different result, or not result at all. We have seen the difference between choosing to do the right thing and being told you have to do the right thing.

On to a more positive subject, your HOA Boards will be looking into the challenges of establishing a Walden Woods Benevolence Fund, to help our neighbors in need. We hope to be working with a lawyer who specializes in this arena and it is our intent to set it up correctly. You will be hearing more about this if you care to attend the meetings.

Your HOA Board is still in negotiations concerning rents and correct prospectuses of a couple dozen lots. We hope to have these cleared up by April after a 7-month process.

Summer season will soon be here. Please observe the community rules, control the speeding, and children are not allowed to drive golf carts in the community or outside the gates. Do not leave children at the pool without supervision from you or their parents. Keep visiting animals on leashes and to the children living here in Walden Woods. Please no more drawing on the speed limit signs. There is a place for immature behavior and this is not that place.

Have a happy and safe summer, thank you.

Homeless Vets Update

Congratulations once again WW's. Over the last month 60# of food, 35# of toiletries and 40# of blankets. Thank you for your generosity. Let's really make a big push for double for April before our snowbirds go home. If you have unopened non- perishables you don't know what to do with before you go back north, please consider donating to the Mission in Citrus. Even if it's not pop-top as it can be used at the shelter. Your donations of your OTC items, water, canned items, sweet treats and socks are welcome. Call Charlotte if you have questions. Safe travels and look forward to seeing you all next fall. Tom Brannelly, Charlotte Mixon
