Our Savior’s Shared Journey

“April WHAT Day?”

“Jesus Christ

is risen!

He is risen

indeed!”

April 1 is a pretty big day… it is my late Dad’s birthday! AND it is April

Fool’s Day (much he suffered because of this!) Oh and this year? Resur-

rection Day! Easter! Jesus Christ is risen! He is risen indeed; Alle….. (come

to church that day we will finish that sentence; it is still Lent when I write

this)!

If you have been to Our Savior’s in Cloquet for Easter you know what a

day what a celebration what a joy what fun what drama what music

what power we share here that day. The Worship staff is planning another

good one!

It will be the start of quite a month at Our Saviors. Some more fun and

joys as we have our 2nd Annual meeting of the year, this one to focus on

the “people” part of our ministry plans for the year(s) ahead. Then we get

to have the 3rd Annual Chili Cook-Off; who will take home the “bowl” this

year (well, no one really, because we keep it here)? With the silent auc-

tion and good food and good fun of the past years setting the format, this

year promises to be another good event. But, there will be a sad day for

Our Savior’s this month as we send Christina Kadelbach, our Youth/Small

Groups Director-turned Seminary Student off to where ever she will be do-

ing the Internship year of her training to be an ordained Minister of Word

and Sacrament (she should hear where that will be in late March). We

tried to keep her here, but the powers-that-be thwarted that effort on a

number of levels (don’t get me started L). I know I speak for all of you: “I

will miss her!”

When you take April as a whole around here this year, even with the

usually encouraging shift in the weather toward Spring and the return of

more light to this northern world, it will be full of challenge. Change is

hard, just about all the time. We will need the good leaders Christina has

trained and the good leaders throughout our shared ministry to work and

plan and pray and serve together to assure a solid future not only for Our

Savior’s Youth and Small Groups ministry, but for the rest of our mission as

well. We will have our work cut out for us, but I am confident in the lead-

ing of the Holy Spirit, the witness of the Gospel and our shared dedication

to our Mission: To know Christ and to have others know him.

Here at the dawn of April, the details of that work are hazy, but the

truth of the Cross and Resurrection can shape us.

If that is our path, I am on that journey with you!

Pastor Chris

Celebration for Christina

Christina Kadelbach’s last day as Our Savior’s

Youth Ministry and Small Group Coordinator will

be on Sunday April 29th. She will leave Our Sav-

ior’s to complete her final requirements for the

seminary on her path to becoming an ordained

pastor. She has been a valuable part of Our

Savior’s Ministry and has touched so many lives

in our church family and the community. Alt-

hough we are very sad to see her leave us, she

is following God’s call and we know she will be

an amazing pastor. So let’s celebrate what she

has achieved here and wish her well on her new

journey. The celebration will be held on Sunday

April 29th between services from 9:30 to 10:30 in

the Fellowship Hall. Coffee and treats will be

provided. We hope you all can join us.

OSLC THIRD ANNUAL CHILI COOK-OFF

Do you have an amaz-ing chili recipe that you are proud of? Are you up for a challenge? Are you just up for some fun? We are holding the third annual chili cook off at Our Savior’s on Sunday April 22nd at 5 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Bring one crock pot

of your amazing chili. All in attendance will judge the event. Someone will win their name on our beautiful carved bowl and bragging rights for a whole year! Sam Buytaert enjoyed the bragging rights this past year. Are you up for challenging him for the title? If so, please contact Jan Larson with questions and for details at [email protected] or 218-878-1281. If you don’t make chili but you like to eat chili and you like to spend an evening having fun so-cializing with others from church then just come and enjoy. We will all vote for our favorite recipe by putting a monetary donation in the chef’s cash box. The chef that has the most money at the end of the night wins the trophy! Our Savior’s WINS because all the money collected will go toward the Mission Appeal. You will also have the opportunity to bid on some silent auction items. You could come away with some pretty cool prizes! So come one, come all. You do not want to miss this fun event. Last year this event raised $2300. Let’s see if we can top that this year. This fundraising/social event is brought to you by the Stewardship and the Fel-lowship Teams.

REQUEST FOR SILENT AUCTION DONATIONS

Our third annual chili cook-off on April 22nd will include a silent auction. Each ministry team is asked to donate a basket for this auction. Do you have something you could contribute? Do-nations for this fun social event’s silent auction would be welcomed.

Prayer Path Located in Zion Lutheran’s Fellowship

Hall During Holy Week

Thursday, March 29th

10:00 am—5:00 pm

Friday, March 30th 10:00—6:00 pm

The Prayer Path is a Christ centered labyrinth experience. This experience is an exciting and creative tool that can draw us toward Jesus, as well as deepen

our faith. Often thought of as a unique worship experience that guides participants towards a deeply

personal encounter with our awesome God.

It is a symbolic journey of prayer, self– discovery and encountering God.

Unlike a traditional labyrinth the Prayer Path has only

one continuous path, strategically leading each participant through 11 stations that focus on important

aspects of spiritual life.

It is a place where we can get away from all the busyness of our lives and dedicate 1/2 hour, hour or 3 hours to prayer, contemplation of Scripture, and

personal spiritual commitment.

New Horizons Christian Preschool

Happy Easter! Happy Spring!

We are arriving back from a week of Spring

break and are all excited about our next ad-

ventures.

In April, we will discover our big beautiful out-

doors. We will camp, do some spring training

and celebrate Earth Day. And of course visit

and sing for all our church friends.

Thank you to all for your support of our Pasta

for preschool Dinner. It was a great success.

Thera Wiersma

NHCP News

Greetings from the Preschool,

Romans 15:3 "May the God of hope fill you

with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so

that you may overflow with hope by the power

of the Holy Spirit."

We are excited for April and the thought of

spring! Thank you for helping to support our

"Pasta for Preschoolers" Spaghetti luncheon

and Silent Auction. In the May issue of the

Messenger, I will list all the businesses and

people that contributed to making it a great suc-

cess.

I am sad to report that the Shiny Paper re-

cycling program is shutting down. Verso is

no longer accepting Shiny Paper, so we can no

longer take your Shiny Paper. This has been a

wonderful fundraiser for our Preschool and I am

very sad to see it go. Thank you very much for

your support with this fundraiser over the years.

Please continue to save your Milk Moola caps,

this fundraiser is going strong!

Thank you for your continued prayers and sup-

port. We are so blessed!

In God's Hands, Angel Gamache

If Cloquet schools are closed or have a 2 hour late start, New Horizons’ Christian Preschool

is closed for the day.

Fund Raiser for the Church Yoga Devotional is offering us a fantastic

opportunity to raise some money for our

Church. In May, Barnes and Noble is

sponsoring a book signing for the creator of

Yoga Devotional's new book. Each Church

that sponsors a yoga class will be given a

code. This code would be for our church

alone. Every purchase that is made through-

out the store that day and the purchaser

shows our code; we will receive a percentage

of the sales. What a great time to get your

summer reads and support the church. I will

be posting the code as soon as I get it. Watch

the bulletins and next month’s Messenger.

Wednesday Night Sunday school during Lent Thank you for everyone that participated in Wednesday night Sunday school during lent. It was so much fun to have so many people learning about prayer!

Day Camp Save the dates! August 5-10

Day camp will be combined again with Zion this summer. We are in need of two leaders for a successful day camp.

First, we are looking for someone to be the Our Savior’s Coordinator. This person will help with registrations from Our Saviors and communications with Zion. It would be great if this person is available to be at Day Camp August 5-10.

Also, we are looking for someone to run the pre-school portion of Day Camp. We have lots of helpers ready for the preschoolers but need one adult to lead. Curriculum is provided!

Congrats Congratulations to all the kids participating in the training and receiving their First Communion.
