Dear Sunrisers,
It’s new. I’m not sure I want to try it. The thing is, I’m just not satis-fied with what I’ve been using. Is it time to take a risk? What if I don’t like it? Worse yet, what if it leaves me worse off, if that is even possible? Do you know what I am talking about? I’m actually talking about a new wax product I saw advertised for motorcycles….but I could be talking about something so much more important. How many dissatisfied people do you know? Most of us swim through a sea of com-plaints stemming from unhappiness. Yours…mine…someone else’s…It even happens with strangers when we’re waiting in line at the store. All these dissatisfied people…what do you sup-pose is keeping them from trying something new? Easter is about trying something new. God created the world and everyone in it. God was very clear about what was right and wrong in the world he created. People sinned and so God gave us instructions for how to make things right. No matter how straight forward God was, good people kept missing the mark and falling short. Unlike so many people we know, God tried something new and different. In Jesus God took on our form and paid our sin debt for us. In rising again, Jesus opened heaven’s gates for you and me. We are offered abundant life here and now, even in the midst of all the poverty and scarcity of our time. We are offered eternal life so that we may go forth to live and reign with Christ when our days here are accomplished. God took a chance. God broke out of the old ways. God did something new and there’s a whole testament we call “new” to prove it. The only question that remains is: What will we do? You and I have a choice. We can remain trapped in our old complaints and dissatisfaction. We don’t have to try anything new. We can keep complaining to our friends, our neighbors and even the strangers we meet in line. Nothing has to change…and in that sense, nothing will change. However, we can become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us that if anyone is in Christ, he or she is a new creation…the old has passed away and the new has come! This comes from a choice to be born anew from above as Jesus invited Nicodemus to do in John 3. The choice is not easy…but it is the most important choice we’ll ever make. I’ve made my choice. I accepted Jesus as my savior and I have devoted my life to serving God’s Kingdom. I have had hard days and I have been broken, frustrated and even at times exasperat-ed. I have never regretted my choice. Have you made your choice? I’m not a complainer. I even try to redirect the complainers in my life to consider other possibili-ties. Maybe this is why a new product is calling to me from an unsolicited Facebook ad. It’s spring and new life is springing forth all around me. I am living a new life as a new creation in Christ. I can take a chance and find it preferable to stewing in my dissatisfaction. What about you? To what discontent, dissatisfied soul might you offer something new today? Happy Easter, Tom Newman, pastor

This excerpt comes from a devotional reading by Dave Ware, composer of “O Praise the Name”, one of the focal songs of the Passion Cantata on April 2.
Easter is the one time of year when people around the world (Christians and non-Christians alike) pause and take time to consider Jesus and what they believe about Him—who He was or wasn’t, what He did or didn’t do, the life He lived, His death, His resurrection, and all that happened after …
The song “O Praise the Name” tells a timeless story - it helps us remember it anew and reflect on it in a different way. It’s the story of the Cross, of His resurrection, and of the greatest love story in history. It’s a story that’s as relevant today as it was 2000 years ago. It’s His story, it’s our story; it’s my story. It was real then, and it’s real to me now. I pray that today, it’s real for you too.
Blessings,
Laura

Coming in May: A Small Group Study For all those who have wondered where God is in their pain,
for those who have questioned if God is there at all, The
Shack movie presents an unforgettable encounter with a di-
vine love Who promises to never leave us. Many of us read
the book and many more are seeing the movie! You are in-
vited to join us for a 5 week small group study based on The
Shack (movie and book). Beginning in May we’ll offer a
small group at 5 PM on Sunday evenings at Church. Watch
for further announcements and a sign up opportunity. Space is limited to just 10 par-
ticipants. Other classes will be offered at other times as demand warrants. For more
information please see Pastor Tom ([email protected]).
Are you ready to grow spiritually and see God do amazing things through
you? Are you a "people person" who loves helping others know Christ?
Are you open to perhaps leading a Life Group next fall? Contact Ann
Lawton for more information at [email protected].
Grow as both a mom and a believer on Friday mornings from
9:30am-11am. You’ll love this welcoming, authentic group of moms.
We’re discussing both Philippians and parenting challenges this semes-
ter. If you need childcare, email Ann Lawton as space is limited.
Help feed the hungry in Holly Springs! The Sunrise Preschool is inviting us to join
them in special collections each week for the Holly Springs Food Cupboard. Our
requested donations this week are for Shelf Stable Milk in small cartons. Just leave
items in the collection buggy in the lobby the next time you’re at Sunrise Church.
