Dear Parents/Guardians: Lord Tweedsmuir will be sending home a formal report card on Tuesday, April 26th. This report card will include final marks for Semester 1 and 1st term marks for Semester 2. We are busy planning the timetable for next year and yes we are continuing to grow. Our projected enrollment is approximately 2152 students. This will mean at least two more portables on site next year. Presently we have a list of 36 in-catchment students waiting to see if Lord Tweedsmuir can accommodate them. It is very important that we have accurate course selections; presently we have 135 Lord Tweedsmuir students who have not handed in a course selection sheet for next year. We need these missing course selection sheets by April 8. Thank you for your assistance with this important process. On a final note, after 38 years in education I have submitted my intention to retire at the end of June this year. I have been very fortunate to have spent 35 years in the Surrey School District, which is a great district to work and learn in. The last 7 years I have had the honour to be here at Lord Tweedsmuir. Lord Tweedsmuir is an outstanding school community and I would like to thank staff, students and parents for working together to make Lord Tweedsmuir such a great community. The new principal of Lord Tweedsmuir will be named within the next week and I will inform the school community as soon as the announcement is made. Don’t forget our PAC meeting on Thursday, April 14th, 7:00 p.m. in the Library! Sincerely, A.J. Buggie Principal

We will also be presenting an update on some new BCCPAC resolutions which will

What’s Up in the English
Department? Student- Led Workshop
Many fortunate students were given the opportunity to learn valuable spo-
ken word poetry skills from Sandeep Middar-- winner of last year’s LTSS
Poetry slam and 2015 graduate—and Mackenzie Jasper, current LTSS stu-
dent and former Junior Slam Champion. Students participated in a hands-on
workshop providing exemplars, presentation pointers, topic facilitation and
tips to revise their own poems. It was a productive and worthwhile experi-
ence and the English Dept. would like to extend a huge thank you to both
Sandeep and Mackenzie for sharing their expertise!
LTSS Poetry Slam 2016
The 3rd annual poetry slam was a resounding success and the
judges and audience members were impressed by the range of
emotion and powerful topics about which student slam poets
spoke. We would like to congratulate all students who participated
and special acknowledgement goes to the following poets:

Holocaust Survivor Delivers Powerful Presentation More than 100 English 11 students studying Elie Wiesel's memoir 'Night' had the op-
portunity to hear guest speaker Alex Buckman of the Vancouver Holocaust Education
Centre (VHEC) give testimony on his experiences as a child survivor of the Holocaust.
This is the last generation that will have the privilege of hearing first-hand accounts
from Holocaust survivors, and this was not lost on the attentive and appreciative stu-
dents. Successfully hidden from Nazi authorities during infancy, as a very small child
Mr. Buckman was eventually orphaned when his parents and aunt were apprehended
and killed in concentration camps. His talk was powerful and emotional, and the stu-
dents were clearly moved. Many took the opportunity to meet and thank him personal-
ly after the talk.
