N4NN ROTOR REPLACEMENT AT 120 FEET
Sometimes it pays to have friends who will work in high places! Pictured are NFDXA veteran Greg, N4CC along with fellow tower monkey Dwayne, KC4DM replacing a broken 50 pound prop pitch motor on N4NN’s 120 foot tower in Hilliard. Dale says he hasn’t been able to turn the stacked CX49XR , XM 240 and 5 element M2 6M arrays for some time. K1N wasn’t a problem since the array was already pointed that way. Now that he’s able to ‘rotate’ again he plans to resume his practice of open-ing the bands during the day.
The Deserving will work the DX. All others will call in vain...

Not one but two major announcements are expected at this weekend’s International DX Conference in Visalia, California. The first hint came last week in an issue of The Daily DX when an article was posted that stated the FT4TA DXpedition team was going to make a “major announcement” during their appearance at the conference. In a conversation with the PileUp afterward Daily DX editor Bernie, W3UR confirmed not one announcement was forthcoming, but there are two and that “both will be very exciting”. W3UR said although he knew the destinations of both Dxpeditions he had been “sworn to secrecy.” So, as the old broadcast saying goes: Stay Tuned.
“BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS“
EXPECTED AT VISALIA
DX0P QRV WEDNESDAY?
The DX0P team is expected to be QRV shortly from Pagasa Island in the Spratly group after a short voyage on the South China Sea aboard the Philip-pine Navy vessel BRP Apo-linario Mabini. They will be on Pagasa April 15 –20. The team had hoped to get in some maritime mobile activity as DX1MM/MM during the cross-ing but after being spotted on 20 SSB and 15 meter RTTY the ship’s commanding officer re-quested they shut down “due to security rea-sons.” The SpratlyS are a separate DXCC entity with hundreds of reefs, islets, atolls, cays and islands, which are claimed by Vietnam, Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Brunei and the Philippines.

Hello again my fellow heroes of
the radio waves, I am proud of the few soldiers that have participated in the rebirth of the DXCC legacy of our club call W4ZR. The totals thus far are pret-ty good. As of the time I write this we are approaching the base DXCC requirement of 100 countries con-firmed in the mixed mode category. I don't have the exact totals as they
are constantly changing, and once again I would like to thank
K4UTE for his voluntary work in this project, keeping LOTW current, etc. I, along with several other members, wish more people would get involved in this ef-fort. It really is fun and it really doesn't matter if we work dupes, because not all contacts are going to be confirmed. So just get in there and enjoy! You might even work a few new ones for yourself every now and then. I know it is a tall order, but one day W4ZR could
be on the honor roll. That would be really cool. Next meeting, I will start to put together a list of participants for ARRL field day. It is June 27-28,which is the last weekend in June, and it will be on us very soon. I guess we will have our regular meeting as usual on the 20th and of course we will finalize all the plans
then. So everybody start thinking about if you are going to participate in the festivities. As of now, unless otherwise determined, we will operate at my station in Interlachen, FL. (Continued on page

The World According to NU4Y
What do you do with your change? I take mine and put it in a jar everyday when I get home. Apparently everyone else seems to just throw it away. The TSA says that last year, they had collected $675,000.00 in change left at check points. Kind of sounds like the old thing of a penny saved is
a penny earned. My daughter and the grandbabies were at Bay Hill re-cently just to pick up a golf ball for a relative. Just as they were leaving, Arnold Palmer was walking up. He had just re-turned from the Masters. They had a nice chat, (a class act)
boy were they excited. I worked a few stations during the WPX contest last month. Ten meters was wide open. I have a regular sched-ule week days on the radio and the big solar event in March really took its toll on the bands. Stations that are normally 20 over S-9 sometimes could not be heard. This lasted
for over a week. Looks like at least for now that the bands are returning. I moved into the 21st century finally. We got a new cable modem with Wi-Fi. Never needed it before as have hard wired the computers with Cat-5 cable and don’t have smart phones or other devices. Purchased a cheap (and I do mean cheap) tablet ($50.00) to carry with me on our trips. It has the latest version of Android on it with a SD card slot. The idea was to have some extra storage for videos and to get our e-mail without carrying the laptop around with us. Turns out Android’s latest version Kit Kat does not allow you to write to the SD card. How did I know? Well there is a work around, if you Root the Android device. Reading up on it, seemed like it was risky to do that. Many of the notes on the internet talk about making their tablet or phone into a Brick that could not be recovered. Figuring that for the cheap price I paid for the tablet, it was worth a shot. Worked out perfectly, I can now write to the SD card and move apps to it or download from the USB directly to the card. Also my internet and phone provider has an app that allows me to get my e-mails and phone messages plus answer and make calls
from any Wi-Fi hot spot anywhere in the world. Man technology is great. It looks like Spratly will be on the air for the deserving, and I shall bet when the P5 shows up, someone like me with limited antennas will not even have a shot at it. Summer is here, at least the temperatures are. Had to break down and finally turn the air condi-tioner on. The time in the shack will be down as cutting grass and pool maintenance now
goes into full swing. Go and work some dx as W4ZR. — 73, Jim

SPECIAL CALL ISSUED FOR SEPTEMBER WAKE ISLAND OPERATION
K6W is the special call that AG6IP, Mike, has reserved for a Wake
Island operation for two weeks in September. Mike expects to
arrive early in the month to mark the 70th anniversary of the end
of the Battle of Wake, along with a group of World War II veter-
ans. He is Looking for monetary donations and sponsors. His plan
is to operate on 80-6M digital modes, PSK, RTTY and JT65, plus
SSB. He says his out of pocket expenses for gear shipping, his own transportation, lodging and QSL expenses will be sub-
stantial. Wake is #45 on Club Log's worldwide most wanted list and public access to the island is restricted. There are no
commercial fights. Mike has previously operated from the Cyprus UK bases, ZC4MIS, in 2007 and 2014. — DDX
VK9C COCOS KEELING PLANNED FOR MARCH 2016
LB2TB, Lars, reports he is planning a VK9/C Cocos Keeling (CQZ 29) operation for March 2016. He hopes by announcing it this far in advance it will help others set their plans so they don't all go the same place at the same time. Lars plans to be on 160-10 CW, SSB and RTTY with at least two stations and two to three operators. The focus will be "to give out a new one to as many hams as possible, and activating 80/160 meters." He notes that many previous operations from this one have been holiday style. He and his group will try to do it "100% DXpedition style." Air flight tickets cannot be booked until within 12 months of the trip.
TX3X CHESTERFIELD ISLANDS QRV OCT 1 TX3X is the assigned callsign for an upcoming October Chesterfield
Islands operation. N6HC, Arnie, has been added to the operators,
completing the on-island team. Arnie was previously part of
operations from Christmas Island, Eastern Kiribati, NH8S on Swains
Island, T33A on Banaba and FT5ZM, Amsterdam Island. He will also be
the team doctor. DX Engineering Products has signed on as a sponsor
and fundraising efforts for the operation have begun. ODXG, INDEXA,
GDXF, CDXC, the Island DX Association, Nippon DX and the Lynx DX
Group are early sponsors. Chesterfield is now the #23 most wanted on the Club Log survey. Chesterfield2015.pdxg.net.
VK9L – LORD HOWE ISLAND PLUS IOTAS G0UIH, Steve, is heading back to "Australia and the Pacific" in December 2015 and January 2016. He's planning to be "operating holiday-style", because it's his wife's birth-day trip, on Lord Howe Island as VK2IAY/9 starting December 16 until Decem-ber 23. Listen for him on SSB only, with an emphasis on 20, 17, 15 and 10 meters, and possibly other bands. He'll be using some of his Vortex Antenna Systems antennas. Afterwards (December 23 to January 16) there is a possibility he may activate some other IOTA references in VK, but nothing confirmed yet. Listen for his activities around 14.260, 21.260 28.460 and 18.145 MHz. And he plans to have a four color special double sided QSL, sponsored by none other than VAS. QSL direct or via the bureau to G0UIH. -- DDX

100-YEAR COMMEMORATION of THE BATTLE OF GALLIPOLI ANZAC, the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, is
getting worldwide attention with their 100-year commemorative
activities. VK100ANZAC will be a special Australian call sign for
the 100-year anniversary of the Australian and New Zealand
Army operations of World War I. These will be April 25-
December 20 during "significant event dates." Details on
the "numerous commemorative call signs, awards and events"
are detailed on their website: www.wia.org.au/newsevents/anzaccentenary/about/.
Main activities start April 25, the date in 1915, when ANZAC troops landed at Gallipoli, Turkey. Organizers say the land-
ing "helped define us as people and as a nation."
Stations in Turkey will be on the air with special calls, including: TC100GS, TC100GP, TC100KT, TC100VKZL, TC100A,
TC100TC, TC100A, TC100B, TC100E, TC100K, TC100GLB. Another site: http://www.teampapa.org/archives/316.

DEDICATED 6 METER MICRONESIA OPERATION V6M from grid PK90VA in Micronesia will be a dedicated six-meter EME expedi-
tion, August 26-September 3, by W7GJ, Lance, who likes to do one of these each
year. This celebrates his 50 years as a VHF DXer. He hopes to break his personal
record from last July, when he operated from KH8 and worked 68 stations on 6M
EME. Lance says, "You know that you can count on me to be making a dedicated
effort to work as many serious 6M operators as possible!" He will not have inter-
net or email from V6 but will publish a planned operating schedule on his web page
beforehand. http://www.bigskyspaces.com/w7gj/Micronesia2015.htm. It is a solo expedi-
tion and expensive. Lance says, "I am beginning to run out of cheap rare places to
go." He tries to find ones that are a new DXCC for virtually every contact. He
hopes some of his followers will consider making donations. He will call CQ on
JT65A, probably aiming at the moon. He does not expect to have any terrestrial
ionospheric propagation but if you hear him on CW or SSB, "Please answer me on
whatever mode I am using at that time." He will only answer callers who use the proper JT65A version when he is calling
CQ on EME with JT65A mode. — DDX

SOUTH AFRICA HAMS GET OK TO RUN FULL KILOWATT Hams in South Africa have been granted a transmit power increase to a full kilowatt.
For decades the maximum South Africa output power was limited to 400 watts peak envelope. A workgroup was established to campaign for higher power. After negotiating for several years, South Afri-can telecommunications authorities were satisfied that the call was well motivated.
The updated regulation was then published in the South African Government Gazette and the new 1 kilowatt output power privilege became effective on April 1st.

April 18, radio amateurs worldwide will take to the airwaves to celebrate World Amateur Radio Day (WARD) 2015. It was on April 18, 1925, that the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) was founded in Paris, with ARRL Co-Founder Hiram Percy Maxim, 1AW, as its first president.
The primary purpose of World Amateur Radio Day is to highlight Amateur Radio and its benefits to countries and communities. The IARU said World Amateur Radio Day is an opportunity for IARU member-societies to demonstrate Amateur Radio to the public and make friends with other amateurs around the world.
Special event stations will be on the air over the April 18-19 weekend to highlight World Amateur Radio Day and the IARU’s 90th anniversary.
“Since its founding, the IARU has worked tirelessly to defend and expand the frequency allocations for Amateur Radio,” the IARU said in marking World Amateur Radio Day. “Thanks to the support of enlightened administrations in every part of the globe, radio amateurs are now able to experiment and communicate in frequency bands strategically located throughout the radio spectrum.” — ARRL

ZD9XF Wins 2014 Single Operator Cass Award
The Cass Award encourages DXpedition operating excellence. While QRV from the island of Tristan da Cunha as ZD9XF in September 2014, Nigel G3TXF worked 9314 unique stations during the first 14 days of his one-man DXpedition, demonstrating an outstanding effort to log as many DXers as possible and setting a new Single-Operator Cass Award record. Club Log founder Michael G7VJR presented Nigel with his plaque and prize at the CDXC Annual Dinner on March 21st. Presented annually, the Cass Award encourages DXpeditions to maxim-ize the number of DXers worked with a $1000 prize for the Single-Operator DXpedition that works the most unique callsigns over a two-week interval. This award honours the wisdom and spirit of Cass WA6AUD (SK), whose stories in the West Coast DX Bulletin taught a generation of DXers that “DX IS”! — http://www.dx-world.net/
WWV’s 25 MHz Signal Still Strong after 1 Year Back on the Air
Time and frequency standard station WWV silenced its 25 MHz signal in 1977, but it returned to the air on an “experimental basis” a year ago, and it’s still up and running. Resurrecting the long-dormant standard time outlet operated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) was Matt Deutch, N0RGT, WWV’s Lead Electrical Engineer “We have been at 1 kW for the past year,” Deutch told ARRL. “We have had a few hiccups, but nothing serious.” Deutch said he was pleased to see the 25 MHz signal included in a recent QST article, “just like the good ol’ days” (see “Measuring Fequencies at VE3GSO,” in the April 2015 QST, p 37). “Here at the site we have even been discussing giving the 25 MHz signal its own antenna again,” Deutch said. “The ham in me wants to give it something more exotic than a plain ol’ boring dipole. But what antenna could it be?” The return of WWV’s 25 MHz outlet came about after Dean Lewis, W9WGV, lamented its loss last year in an e-mail to Deutch, who surprised him by putting the signal back on the air, initially temporarily. According to NIST, the 25 MHz broadcast includes the normal WWV information transmitted on all oth-er WWV frequencies and at the same level of accuracy. The transmitter in Fort Collins, Colorado, can put out 2500 W into what Deutch has called a “broadband monopole,” although he keeps the transmitter running
at about 1200 W. WWV has invited listeners’ comments and signal reports. — ARRL News
The purpose of this experimental Web site < http://www.bandconditions.com/ > is to provide 24-7-365 actual (REALTIME) band condition information to CW QRPp, QRPe and CW/SSB for Contesters interested in increasing their scores. It can also be of benefit to other Radio Amateurs to determine band conditions for Nets and casual QSO's. This information is NOT based on any software pre- dictions or any kind of satellite based readings. It is based on a new Ionospheric sounding method called "HF Ionospheric Interferometry"
which operates very similarly to the PolSAR system used by NASA.

FIRST CLASS MAIL
This weekend two major DXpedition announcements are expected to be made at the annual Visalia DX Conference. Although ‘those in the know’ have (in their words) “been sworn to secrecy”, the rest of us are left to…anticipate.
Now that I think of it, one of the many joys of DXing is anticipation. It’s that feeling of excitement about something that is about to happen. In the case of the two soon-to-be announced Dxpeditions, will they be to entities that I need? Who’s going and how long will they be there?
Propagation has been weakening along with the downward sliding solar cycle. Between poor conditions and increasing DQRM will I even be able to hear them well enough to call?
On and on the questions come and the closer we are to getting the answers the more the anticipation grows. Are you having fun yet?
May the good DX be yours — NW4C
