Since summer 2014, the Islamist terrorist group ISIS – a.k.a. Islamic State – has devastated the political, geographic and combat landscape of the Middle East. At the same time, along with its ominous black banners, it has raised worrisome questions about the true nature of Islam.

For the Middle East’s ancient Christian communities, the threats posed by ISIS’ extraordinarily brutal warriors have been electrifying. In one haunting story after another, Islamic State jihadists have swept through Christian communities in Iraq and Syria, demanding that residents submit to Islam. Or flee from their ancestral homes. Or face the sword.

Other minorities in ISIS’ path, such as Yazidis and Shi’a Muslims, have suffered even worse fates.

In less than a year’s time, ISIS’s ferocious tactics and wanton destruction of ancient historical sites have eclipsed the rampages of Al-Qaeda affiliates such as Al-Nusra in Syria, the incessant imprisonment and execution of dissidents in Iran and Saudi Arabia, and even the kidnapping and killing wrought by Nigeria’s Boko Haram.

Across the globe, political observers, military tacticians and scholars have tried diligently to piece together a profile that clarifies ISIS’s motives and intentions. And now the March edition of Atlantic Monthly – a left-of-center and highly secular periodical – has published a

surprisingly useful summary, offering both information and thoughtful insight.

What ISIS Really Wants, by Atlantic contributing editor Graeme Wood, is both expansive and intriguing. “The Islamic State is no mere collection of psychopaths,” explains an introductory teaser. “It is a religious group with carefully considered beliefs, among them that it is a key agent of the coming apocalypse…”

The article deserves to be read and re-read carefully – start to finish.

Perhaps the most significant contribution Wood’s article makes – and there are several – is that the Islamic State’s self-declared caliph, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and those who follow and serve him are, above all else, ardently

Spring and new life, where did it all begin? Strange to contemplate the possibility it began at a grave, with a death. Because of Someone’s death, not just anyone’s death, but that of Jesus, we access to a new life, an abundant life, an eternal life. After his crucifixion, Jesus was placed into a grave, a place for the dead - not a living Savior. Jesus left that dark grave, passed through hell and rose into the light of eternity. As the sun’s rays warm the earth bringing forth new life, so does the Son’s light shining in us warm our soul, bringing forth new life.

It is spring time; time to leave the dark days of winter behind stepping into the Light, into the newness of this day and season, to walk in the presence of the risen One. To look with fresh eyes and a renewed spirit at what He wants to breathe life into today.

He is the same yesterday, today and forever; but that does not mean he is static, His manna is new each day, His water fresh and living; there is nothing stale about our God, our Lord and Savior. He is the great I AM, not the great I Was. He is as vibrant and relevant today as in the past, our need of him just the same. Let us not grow stagnant, trying to hold onto old manna and way of doing things; be grateful for them, they sustained and nourished us - gave us a foundation to build upon and move us forward, deeper into Him. His will continues to unfold and be revealed to us as his friends. Let us consider Abraham and Moses, God’s friends of old; they each moved in partnership with God, were involved in the demonstration of God’s will, yet each way was different. In friendship, as we co-labor with him, we discover what he desires, what pleases him, how we can be in alignment with his will. Now is the time, let us reach out embracing how the Lord wants to demonstrate and make his will know today. Let us drink deeply of his presence, then step into each day full of anticipation with eyes wide open, ears alert and tuned in, with a heart prepared – ready to follow as he leads. Let us enjoy fresh manna today, in the spring time of our lives.

SPRING TIMEBy Paula McBridePara Hogar Ninos, Vincente Guerrero, Mexico

“All is well here, but not usual,” my friend posted to Facebook. She was commenting on the effect of local farm workers protesting low wages and despicable working conditions. I’ve rubbed shoulders with the workers in the grocery store. I’ve seen them bending over the strawberry rows. I’ve viewed them in the windows of buses as I cross the street. They walk on our roads, heads covered by a hooded sweatshirt and a ball cap with faces wrapped in a bandana. Some are the parents of my students, and I agree with their need for change.

In chapel on Wednesday morning, March 17, we were shocked to hear from our administrator that for the first time in Baja history a strike of this nature was in effect. Roadblocks halted the movement of vehicles from Ensenada to San Quintin. Any vehicle attempting to get through was “stoned.” Piles of tires were set ablaze, and any business that did not close its doors was looted. My Facebook page began to fill with chilling videos of protesters and vandals on streets and in businesses that are familiar to me. School was closed because our teachers

couldn’t get through. About five o’clock that evening, an

alert went through the mission that the governor called and asked if he could use our chapel for his negotiations. Mario, our administrator, told him the mission had always been open to anyone, but we wondered if the protesters would follow the governor and overrun our campus. (The children were told not to leave their casas which surround the chapel.) An hour and a half later, the governor called to say he wasn’t coming. God averted what could have been a disaster.

The next morning in chapel, Mario began updating us on the situation by quoting Psalm 5:12 “Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.” The hundred or so of us full and part-time missionaries and many of the kids heard Mario tell us what was still going on and how God watches over the mission property and its residents and visitors. God is indeed our shield, the kind that surrounds us, and we are confident in His purposes.

I pray the workers’ voices are heard and that the growers concede to what is right and just. God hears the cries of the

An aspiring singer who was rejected from “American Idol” three times has shared how her faith saved her from having an abortion.

On Sunday, Kimberly Henderson, a 26-year-old single mom from South Carolina, shared her harrowing ordeal on social networking site Facebook and the post immediately went viral, garnering more than half a million likes in two days. In it, she recalls her last-minute decision not to undergo an abortion procedure after unexpectedly coming across a powerful scripture.

“Two years ago today I was sitting in an abortion clinic thinking not having Vaida was best for me,” Henderson wrote with reference to her two-year-old daughter. “Well this date is forever burned in my brain. ... I think that is God’s way of showing me that HIS plan is and will always be greater and bigger than anything and everything I’ve ever known.”

In Dec., the Sumter resident and mother of four became a YouTube sensation after she uploaded a video of herself covering Whitney Houston’s classic song “How Will I Know” while singing to her then 1-year-old daughter, Vaida.

Henderson recalled having an overwhelming sense of regret and sadness in her heart as she prepared to abort her now two year-old daughter. While others around her seemed to be in good spirits as they gorged on fast food and texted away

on their cell phones, she was an emotional wreck because as she put it “God was giving me signs to not do it.”

“The lady called me to the desk. Last step before you go back. I fumbled through my wallet to find my drivers license and out fell a card a couple left on the table Saturday night when I was working,” She wrote. “It had their church name on it.. On the back was a common verse...’Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your

God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10.’ I knew God was speaking to me.”

It was in that powerful moment that Henderson made the life-changing decision not to follow through with the abortion.

“Pouring tears I walked out and felt a huge weight off my shoulders. No matter what your circumstances are God doesn’t make mistakes and he is here for you,” she continued.

Months later the young mom gave birth to a healthy baby girl who weighed in at 6lb. In addition to crediting her faith for leading her to make the best decision, she said that having supportive family and friends was incredibly helpful.

“This is my testimony. ... I will let it be known that I do not care what people think. Hence this post,” she wrote. “My friends and family mean the world to me. And have my back 100%. Even if I have to do this by myself. I thank God everyday for them.”

Jesus Wept John 11:35

COMMUNITY

David Kugelman is the president of the Christian Business Alliance which meets each Tuesday at noon at various locations. Dave welcomes your questions or comments on this article at [email protected]

Have you ever wondered why Jesus wept at the tomb of Lazarus? Jesus must have known what was about to happen. He must have known that he was about to look into a dark tomb that reeked of Death and call forth Life. He must have known that in just a couple minutes Lazarus would come hopping out of the tomb into the light. He must have known that Mary and Martha would be joyously freeing Lazarus from his grave cloths. He must have known that Lazarus would walk again, sing again, laugh again, dance again… He must have known! So, why did he weep?

Jesus wept because death, brokenness, and pain are heartbreaking regardless

of the outcome. He saw his creation in pain, so he wept, he prayed, and then he took action to restore Life.

This is the Jesus I have the privilege of exclaiming to high school students! He cares, and he restores Life! As our local Young Life Leaders walk through the halls of our high schools they see the pain and difficulties facing our young friends, and they are heartbroken… so we take action! We win the right to be heard on the topic of Jesus by building authentic friendships with kids, and we ruthlessly trust in Jesus to call Life out of the dark tombs in our friend’s lives.

Thank you so much for helping us share this message with the adolescents in the Yuba Sutter Area!

I’m sure that you know this verse in its entirety. “Without faith it is impossible to please God.” Hebrews 11:6 – With that verse in mind, do you believe that our prayers (both collectively and individually) can change the course of our nation? Our communities? Our families? James 5:16b …The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results. That verse is downright inspiring! If we believe that, we have the power to move mountains. There are many

mountains facing our nation today, but things can change. We are praying the Will of God when we ask Him to bring righteousness back to America, back to our families and our communities. “thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” With that stated, would you join us for the National Day of Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, May 7th? Details including ticket information is on the back page of this edition of the Ambassador. And if you are unable to attend, won’t you commit to praying more fervently and more consistently for God to send His Spirit of revival to reverse the ungodly trend that is destroying our country?

I went to both private and public schools. If I had to pick which school I would want to go to, I would pick ACS, and here is why. I like my school because the teachers and the students are really nice and smart. The teachers always spend one-on-one time with you and they’re always there to help you when you need them. The staff and teachers at my school are everyone’s friends and they always spend quality time with us. Even if the staff may not get paid as much as public school teachers, they’re here because they love us and want to teach us. Also, I like my Christian school because we get to learn more about God.

My school teaches us how to be responsible and disciplined. I think that Christian private education is better than the public school education system. Christian schools, like my school, usually have smaller classes which help children so they don’t get as distracted. The discipline is better, the technology sometimes is better and the parents are more involved to help the school.

At my school, there are only three teachers and they work really hard to do what they do. I enjoy my school because

there are many people to be friends with. One of the many reasons why I like my school is because we are starting to grow more in new areas, for example, we just started a basketball team at our school. We have only played one game so far, but we are going to play more.

I also like my school because of the field trips and activities; they are really fun. On our last field trip we went to San Francisco. First we took a ferry from Vallejo to the Ferry Building and then went to the science Exploratorium on Embarcadero. One of our field trips was a hike on our principal’s neighbor’s property in the Buttes. Of course, by hiking in the Buttes we have had the risk of getting bitten by a snake, but it was really fun and I hope we can do it again. Also, we go ice skating and at the end of the year we visit our pen pals. Last year we got to visit a huge cave with our pen pals in Redding. Fridays are fun at our school because we have a pancake breakfast at school and we get out at 12:30 p.m. On Tuesday, we have a pastor come to our school and teach us about the Lord.

The public school field trips are not as fun from my perspective. Some people may disagree with me and say a public

incapable of certain types of change, even if that change might ensure its survival; and that it considers itself a harbinger of – and headline player in – the imminent end of the world.”

“End of the world” ideology is nothing new to most Christians. Indeed, many of today’s believers are gripped by a sense of gathering darkness – embodied both in a notable “falling away” from Christianity (especially in the West), and in widespread global persecution. These and other signs of the times have ignited renewed interest in prophetic biblical writings, particularly among evangelical and Pentecostal believers.

Although Christians may believe they can “hasten the day of the Lord” through evangelism and prayer, most suppose that the grand finale on the world’s stage will be played out solely according to God’s timetable.

Apocalyptic Islamist ideology, on the other hand, teaches that Muslims must play an active role in bringing about the appearance of their messianic figure.

For example, the ayatollahs of Iran’s Islamic Republic are working to bring forth the return of the 12th Mahdi, their version of a messiah. In fact, former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spoke in glowing terms of this messianic appearance during a UN speech in 2011. He said that the future will be built when humanity comes under the leadership…

“…of Imam al-Mahdi, the Ultimate Savior of mankind and the inheritor to all divine messengers and leaders and to the pure generation of our great Prophet….He will come alongside with Jesus Christ to lead the freedom and justice lovers to eradicate tyranny and discrimination, and promote knowledge, peace, justice freedom and love across the world…”

Less has been reported about Sunni Islam’s millenarian vision. David

Cook, author of Contemporary Muslim Apocalyptic Literature, has done excellent research and writing on the subject. But it is ISIS that has focused the world’s attention on Sunni Islam’s “End of Days” teachings.

One primary principle Graeme Wood exposes is that, without a caliphate, there can be no fulfillment of a Sunni apocalyptic scenario. This is why the establishment of the caliphate has been essential to al-Baghdadi, setting ISIS apart from Al Qaeda and other Sunni sects, who anticipate an eventual caliphate, but have

not aggressively sought to establish it.But is ISIS truly Islamic?Wood writes, “It would be facile, even

exculpatory, to call the problem of the Islamic State ‘a problem with Islam.’ The religion allows many interpretations, and Islamic State supporters are morally on the hook for the one they choose. And yet simply denouncing the Islamic State as un-Islamic can be counterproductive, especially if those who hear the message have read the holy texts and seen the endorsement of many of the caliphates practices written plainly within them.

“Muslims can say that slavery is not legitimate now, and that crucifixion is wrong at this historical juncture. Many say precisely this. But they cannot condemn slavery or crucifixion outright without contradicting the Koran and the example of the Prophet.”

Islam wears many faces. And it is safe to say that relatively few of the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims subscribe to the extremist teachings of ISIS and its fledgling caliphate.

Nonetheless, as Wood makes abundantly clear, at the core ISIS is a classic Sunni Islamic belief system. At the same time, ISIS serves as an ideological and strategic counterbalance to the radical Shiism of Iran’s burgeoning Islamic Republic.

Which raises a question: Which Islamists, in the long run, pose the greatest threat?

The calculating Iranian mullahs, with their nuclear ambitions and aggressive exportation of the Islamic Revolution?

Or the Islamic State’s insatiable jihadis, with their land-grabs, bloodlust, and

swelling numbers of fresh recruits?I asked Hudson Institute Senior Fellow,

Hillel Fradkin – an expert on Islamic history and ideology – for his perspective on what lies ahead in the Middle East. Here’s what he told me.

“What lies ahead in the short term is, indeed, an ongoing struggle between the radical Sunni Islam of ISIS and the radical Shiite Islam of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Each aims at and embodies a vision of a radical and redemptive ‘Islamic

State.’“The two versions contradict one

another, so there can be no peace between them. But they also feed off one another. Iran is already the more successful of the two. It has transformed what was formerly a loose alliance called the ‘Shiite Crescent’ into a ‘Shiite Empire,’ which it now proudly and loudly proclaims while consolidating control over Baghdad, Beirut, Damascus and Sana.

“In the meantime, Christians will continue to be afflicted between these hammers and anvils. Their remaining safe havens in the region will be the State of Israel, the Kurdish Regional Government and, perhaps, Egypt under President al-Sisi.”

give to the poor and needy, charitable deductions are probably the most important deduction that a Christian has to claim on their return. You may deduct donations to religious, charitable, scientific, literary, educational and other non-profit groups including nonprofit schools, hospitals, cemeteries and volunteer fire companies, research organizations, war veterans’ groups, fraternal and lodge groups, legal services corporations and federal, state, local and tribal governments.

While dues to veterans’ groups are deductible, dues to fraternal, lodge groups, and civic groups are not. Only money contributed to these groups, which they use for religious, charitable, scientific, literary or educational purposes, is deductible. Also, taxes or fees are not deductible as charitable contributions. (However, certain taxes are deductible.)

Only organizations that are recognized by the IRS as a qualified charitable organization are deductible. Thus, contributions to specific individuals,

political organizations, groups that devote a substantial part of their activities to lobbying or influencing legislation as well as foreign charities and governments are not deductible. However, the best way to give to these groups is through a recognized domestic tax-exempt group, which passes on the funds raised to the specific individual or group. The best way to check if an organization qualifies is by asking to see an organization’s IRS letter recognizing it as tax exempt or checking http://www.irs.gov/Charities-&-Non-Profits/Search-for-Charities.

Only money or property given is deductible. Blood given to a blood bank, a donation of your time to a volunteer service or the free use of property to a charity is not deductible. In addition, contributions you give in which you get something of value in return, such as benefit tickets, dues, food, etc., only the amount of the contribution given that exceeds the fair market value (FMV) of the goods or services received is deductible. Such as a benefit dinner, which you paid $15 that is only worth $10 at a local restaurant, is only deductible up to $5.00. The value of raffle, bingo or

lottery tickets is considered its FMV thus these items are not deductible.

The charitable contribution deduction you deduct is limited to 50% of your AGI (See February article.) in any given year. Contributions that exceed this AGI limit can be carried forward to the next five years. For donations of less than $250 a cancelled check or a receipt from the charity should suffice. However, for donations of $250 or more you must obtain a written acknowledgement from the charity. Generally, you should keep these documents for up to three years in case you are audited or need to file an amended return.

Let me start with a clear caveat: Satan will not ultimately win as he attacks God’s church. Jesus broke the powers through His cross (Col. 2:15), and the enemy will eventually be cast into outer darkness (Rev. 20:10). In the meantime, though, the devil strategically attacks us. Consider these ways he seeks to get the “up”per hand.1. He wants us to mess up in sin. The results of our sin are numerous. Our witness loses credibility. Our prayers are hindered. Our joy wanes. Relationships often suffer. The world looks at us and sees no difference– and the enemy temporarily wins.2. He wants us to cover up our sin. He did it in the Garden of Eden, and he still does it today: if we sin, he wants us to hide like Adam and Eve did. That way, we never confess it and turn from it. Likewise, the enemy wants the local church to ignore the sin among its members.3. He wants us to get hung up on difficulties and discouragement. “You’ve served God faithfully,” he says to us, “but what good has it done? You’re still struggling and lonely.” He delights when we cower in the cave like Elijah (1 Kgs 19), forgetting God’s previous

blessings and focusing on only the trouble at hand.4. He wants us to clam up in evangelism. God has only one plan to get the gospel to our neighbors and the nations: believers tell the story to others (Rom. 10:9-16).

It’s the enemy who points out reasons for us not to share the gospel. Maybe you’ve heard messages like “You’re going to lose your friendship” or “You really don’t know enough to do evangelism.”5. He wants us to bow up over position and power. The enemy who himself sought the throne of God is pleased when

we guard our turf and protect our positions in the local church. “You’ve served in that position for years,” he reminds us, “and why should you give it up? Nobody can do it as well as you can.”6. He wants us to break up. This strategy,

too, started in the Garden, where Adam turned on Eve and blamed her for his wrong. From the beginning, the enemy has sought to sever marriages, families, friendships, and congregations. He knows the church will hardly make a difference when we shoot each other in the back.7. He wants us to build up our own

kingdoms. He does not mind when we talk about the kingdom of God as long as our real focus is our own kingdom. “Serve God,” he says, “but make sure others know just how much you’re serving Him. In a ‘humble’ way, be sure to get the word out about the size and influence of your ministry.”8. He wants us to cloud up the message. Without question, the enemy rejoices when the gospel message is decidedly and clearly forsaken. At the same time, though, he is pleased when the message is subtly changed so the gospel disappears while still sounding like a biblical message. The cloudiness of the message thus keeps non-believers from hearing the truth.9. He wants us to give up on prayer. He points out unanswered prayer, reminding us that God has at times not heard us in the past. Why would we then seek God’s presence and power today?10. He wants us to get puffed up with ego. In fact, this strategy is the root of the rest of these strategies. When we reside on the throne of our lives, the enemy is at least temporarily winning.

Chuck Lawless currently serves as Professor of Evangelism and Missions and Dean of Graduate Studies at Southeastern Seminary.

An up-and-coming TV star said in a recent interview that his Christian faith makes some of his Hollywood peers uncomfortable. Trai Byers, who is known for his roles on FOX’s “Empire,” and the Academy Award-nominated “Selma,” says that he has been given a platform to share his faith and he plans to use it.

“I know a part of my journey now, the reason I’m an actor now, the platform that I have now,” Byers told The Christian Post. “I’m supposed to share the Lord with people. All of us are disciples on some level. You don’t have to be behind the podium to tell a story, connect with people and share the Gospel.”

The actor said he grew up attending Sunday school, but developed a real relationship with God after an incident

where a gun was pointed to his head at the age of 15.

Byers said, “That night I wasn’t able to sleep, I felt something very heavy on me. Like, ‘You’re not supposed to be here, Trai. I saved you Trai.’ I reconciled with my life some of the things I was interested in as a teenager that I shouldn’t have been interested in. God turned me around just like that — with the snap of a finger, and I’ve been a hardcore Christian advocate for God ever since.”

Byers says he knows life is about glorifying God. “It’s working out for the purpose of His glory. If I weren’t doing my job and saying ‘thank the Lord, God is good’ everywhere I go, I think I would be doing a disservice to Him. Who knows how long this life would last. Wherever I am, whether I’m an actor, whether I’m a teacher or whatever... I’m going to shout to the heavens until it’s over because it’s not about us, it’s about Him.”

Not surprisingly, some of Byers’ Hollywood peers have expressed discomfort at his outspoken Christianity. Still, Byers will not let others’ criticism stop him from spreading the gospel.

‘Why I Like My School - Continued from Page 9school is better than a Christian private school, but I like my private school better and think that the education is strong. Even if you have to pay for the education

of a private school, I think it’s worth it. These are most of the reasons why I like my school, but given time, I could come up with more.

talking about God and pull me to the side and say, ‘Put that Bible down.’ And I’d start talking even more because that’s the purpose I’m here for. I can’t drop my God

to fit in, and I won’t. God is building an army all over the place, in Hollywood as well. So it feels good to be a part of it,” he said.

Those who follow Jesus have a God-given command and Spirit-empowered desire to share the Gospel … but often we don’t know where to begin. Plus, we’re worried about getting it wrong and burning relationships with friends and family. It doesn’t have to be that way! As the old saying goes, people won’t care how much you know unless they know how much you care. Here are 11 unique ways to “show” and “tell” from missional experts Ben Connelly and Dr. Bob Roberts, Jr., authors of A Field Guide for Everyday Mission: 30 Days and 101 Ways to Demonstrate the Gospel (Moody Publishers).1. Walk your dog. Walk when your neighbors are outside. Strike up conversations. No dog? Here’s your chance to guilt trip your spouse into getting one. 2. Fix broken things. Jesus saw brokenness in the physical world as symbolic of spiritual brokenness; you can too. Pick up trash, help a neighbor with rehab, clean a park, etc. 3. Build short fences. Tall fences don’t make good neighbors; they distance and privatize you. Remove fences between you and your neighbors, or if you must have them, build them low.4. Try a new hobby. Not stoked about video games, cycling, or model cars, but know folks who are? Become stoked about people, and prepare to be dominated, out of breath, or have gluey fingers.

5. Display imperfection. Instead of hiding faults and mistakes, talk about your humanness and the fruit God produces as He continues to redeem it.6. Pray before conversations. Whether a meeting, business call, friendly chat or first date, pray before it starts … for God to lead your words and help you model His character. Note: If praying would kill the relationship, skip this suggestion!7. Tip well … even if they do a horrible job. Show dignity, kindness, grace, mercy and the love of Christ. The waiters, assistants, janitorial staff, drivers and housekeepers who surround you, greet them by name. Get off your phone before you check out of a store.8. Ask good questions. Show people you care about them, their beliefs and their desires. “When do you feel like that?” “Were you afraid?” “How did you respond?” “What concerns you most?” “How are you doing with it now?” “Tell me more!” and of course, “Why?”9. Ask what people think of God. Literally everyone considers that question and most will answer. Even if some answers scare you, it’s a way to see how others think about deep things.10. Talk to not-yet believers the same way you talk to Christians. Discuss hobbies, passions, work or whatever you talk about in Christian circles—95 percent of conversation can look the same.11. Watch your reactions. Respond to frustrations in gracious ways. Ignore office gossip. Display patience in difficulty. The “small moments” of life are platforms to display your faith.Parting word of caution… beware of turning people into projects and forcing the Gospel uninvited. Remember, most mission happens through meaningful conversations and genuine relationships. So above all, love others well.

EDITORIALTOTALLY RADICAL, DUDE national day of prayer

Seth Halpern - Editor

By Jon Skillman

Bashing Christianity is totally in vogue these days. I first noticed it when, trendsetter, Rosie O Donnell made the following comment on ABC’s, The View: “Radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam in a country like America.” Radical Christianity? What the heck is that?

Oh she must be talking about those radical Christians that flew planes containing innocent people into buildings full of innocent people, all in the name of Allah…No, wait a minute…I’m pretty sure those guys were Muslims. Maybe she was referring to that Christian Major at Fort Hood who massacred thirteen innocent and unarmed fellow military personnel while ranting Islamic slogans…No, dad-burn-it…he was a Muslim too. Oh I know, Rosie was probably thinking about some Christian brothers who planted bombs at the Boston Marathon to kill and maim in the name of Alla...Nope, by golly, they were Muslims also. I think Rosie might be a little…how should I put this…misguided?

Anyway, if it were just Rosie I’d simply write it off too, considering the source. But lately more and more, at every level of society, are jumping on the antichristian bandwagon. Even our president has weighed in on the matter. At the national prayer breakfast, President Obama warned Christians not to get on our “high horse” because of the evils committed in the name of Christ during The Crusades. Let’s see, he must be referring to how the Christians had, for hundreds of years, been pillaging, raping, murdering and taking over Muslim territory...Oops, wait a minute, if history serves me correctly, it was the other way around…Islam had been pillaging, raping, murdering and taking over Christian territory. So Christians got together and rode off to put an end to the Muslim’s

aggression. Were there atrocities committed by both sides? Undoubtedly.

But come on, Mr. President…that was some eleven hundred years ago. I think we would be better served if you focused on what is happening, not only in the Middle East, but throughout much of the world…today! Islam is pillaging, raping, murdering and taking over territory of anyone who gets in the way. I think, Mr. President, it might be time to saddle up your high horse because another crusade appears eminent. But you seem more concerned about the undefined and unfounded evils of Christianity than the all too real evils of Islam.

At a recent White House Summit to counter violence and extremism, President Obama dismissed the idea that countries fighting terrorism are actually fighting Islam. This revealed President Obama’s nagging speech impediment that prohibits him from saying Islamic and terrorism in the same breath. This affliction seems to have infected his entire administration. I fear this inability to speak the truth will redefine the phrase, Islamic terrorism to mean, mainstream Islam.

Being that Rosie offered no definition for “Radical Christianity,” allow me to offer this: Radical and/or Extreme Christianity is…Love, Hope and Charity. We should all be so radical and extreme.

Often God shows me what He wants for the cover story. Sometimes, I know well in advance and other times it is almost at the deadline. This month was much more difficult. It wasn’t for lack of news or turmoil in our world. There is, of course, ISIS and their diabolical threat. There are also horrors much closer to home. I don’t want to get graphic and if you watch or read the news at all, you’re inundated just as I am. Then there’s the political crisis in which our state and our nation are spiraling downward to a point of no return. Crime, Drugs, Sexual immorality and more seem to be the new normal. Even the “church” is in upheaval. I just read (and posted on Facebook) of a “minister” of one of the largest denominations who declared that he denies the existence of God! Huh? Well, the point is that we are in a world of hurt or more precisely the world is hurting, badly, badly hurting. Scripture tells us one thing (the most important thing) to do is to pray. I want to invite you to do so. Everyday. All Day. Pray without Ceasing. Then on Thursday, May 7th, let’s come together as a community of Jesus followers and pray during our National Day of Prayer. For 2 hours (7 to 9am) let’s drop our denominational

ties, our political preferences, our worship styles and come together as the Body of Christ to lift up our lost and hurting world. The Ambassador Newspaper Ministry partners with the Christian Business Alliance to co-host the Yuba-Sutter National Day of Prayer Breakfast. It takes place at Church of Glad Tidings but it is for the entire Christian community. My good friend, Sean Blount, lead pastor of Hope Point’s Live Oak campus, will be the featured speaker. Sean was very instrumental in the founding of The Ambassador. For more info on the breakfast, see the back page. It is a very important time for our community and I hope you make plans to join with us.
