1 April 2014, Volume 16, Issue 4 Message from the President Hello OSC Members, We have entered our busy time of the year, planning our Spring Folly and our Downtown Cruise-Ins. Ruth Ann has been a tremendous help. We will spend some time during our April meeting discussing these and possibly asking for some volunteers at both. We will all enjoy these outings. We are trying to schedule entertainment which includes Country, Blue-Grass and Oldies in an attempt to please everyone. The Chamber of Commerce is working closely with us and it is reassuring to have their support. I should be meeting with Tim Vestal and Paul Bledsoe within a few days. Many of us attended the Charlotte Auto Fair this past weekend and some of you served as judges for AACA. Thank you. It was quite a show--many cars and vendors and pretty weather. Easter is approaching and I hope all of you have a Happy Easter. I understand that many of you will attend the Brunch at the Harmon House and I hope you all enjoy it. I believe we have some good times and events ahead. It is a privilege to be associated with you all. See you on Tuesday the 15th. Ronald F. Time is getting close! Our annual Spring Folly Car Show is almost upon us and we will need all the help wecan get! Please be willing to volunteer to help that day; the more hands we have, the easier it will be oneveryone. I will have a Sign-Up sheet at our meeting on Tuesday along with jobs and details, so please makean effort to attend.

And also during this show, we will have our "Driving Thru the Decades" display again this year, featuringModel T's and A's and "newer" cars of Henry Ford, from 1911 to 1958. "A Tribute to Henry Ford" will be anamazing display and fun to see!

For the benefit of our new members, our Old Salem Chapter has hosted this annual car show for a number ofyears (our best OSC fundraiser of the year) in conjunction with the Kernersville Chamber of Commerceduring the HUGE Downtown Kernersville street festival, the Kernersville Spring Folly. Our show isn't "just acar show" ... there is sooo much more to offer ... vendors of all kinds, wonderful food and live entertainment, and a small "carnival" of rides for the kids, plus more ... a GREAT FAMILY DAY!

Please feel free to pass the flyer and info on to all of your friends! It will be great day!

Let's All Go to the Barn ...

The Barn Dinner Theater, That Is!Ruth Ann Ronchetti, Activities

Hey, everyone ... a GREAT show has popped up at the Barn Dinner Theaterin Greensboro that I thought y'all would enjoy ... "Groovin'"! It's all aboutthat wild and crazy music of the '60s & '70s that many of us grew up with! And ... to immerse ourselves even further into the experience, let's all wearour tie-dye t-shirts and fringed vests ... or whatever else of that time period you may have laying around ...while we drive our 1960's/1970's cars and park them in reserved spaces in front for everyone to see and enjoy!

We need to jump on this quickly since we can get $10 off our tickets for an "Early Bird" rate if we go duringthe first two weeks so that means we will have to go on Sunday, May 11th for the 1:00 PM seating to work it

Phyllis & Mike Oehman -- Apr 15th

Becky & Bynum Hancock -- May 16th

Ron Casey – April 28th

into our OSC calendar scheduling. And ... since we are a group, I will have to get our reservations to them byAPRIL 18th ... 3 weeks ahead of the show.

The Group/Early Bird rate is $36/person and that includes the wonderful buffet meal, the show, tax andgratuity ... good deal! Sooo ... please let me know ASAP if you would like to go! And, send your checksmade out to me since I will have to pay by a credit card for our group all at one time. I will have a Sign-Upsheet at our meeting on Tuesday, also.

Let's go back in time to the '60s/'70s ... gonna be a fun afternoon!

***************************************************************************************

In October 2013, our Old Salem Chapter was contactedby the University of North Carolina School of the Arts(UNCSA) in Winston-Salem and asked if we couldprovide some antique cars of the 1950's/1960's for aSenior movie project they were filming and needed carsfor. The movie was called "Vernon Leaves the Circus"and some of our members heeded the call. Some of ourmembers that came forward with their cars were alsoextras in the movie during the "Circus" shoot in themiddle of a big field! Great fun!

Now ... it is time for the screening process and y'all are invited to attend! It will be on Sunday, May 4th, 7:00to 10:00 pm in their theater on the campus of the UNC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem. Those that werein the movie ... and you know who you are ... are asked to maybe bring your car that was in the movie todisplay in front of the theater.

We are told that it is only about a 15 minute film but it should be a lot of fun to see our members' cars andsome of their faces on the BIG screen. We may be able to take a little tour of the film department and evenmeet to have dinner beforehand; the logistics of that still need to be worked out, but I will let you know. PUTIT ON YOUR CALENDAR!

Kernersville's "Movie Night in the Park"

featuring our "Ultimate Life" Movie!Ruth Ann Ronchetti, Activities

On Friday night, May 16th, our Old Salem Chapter comes to lifeagain with our old cars being shown on the BIG SCREEN foranother screening! "Our" movie, "The Ultimate Life," will beshown at Harmon Park on South Main Street to kick offKernersville's summer series of Movie Night in the Park.

Kernersville's Town Mayor, Dawn Morgan, recommended to the Parks and Recreation that our movie beshown and made available to those that were not able to see it during the limited showing in the theaters lastSeptember .. how 'bout that, great lady! Sooo .. that is how it came to be. It will be advertised as a "DateNight" and there will be food available. It has also been requested that we display some of our OSC

5

cars/truck that were in the movie, too, so that will be an even more meaningful experience for those coming toenjoy the movie.

Little info for our new members: Our Old Salem Chapter was honored to be asked to provide antique cars forthe filming of the movie, "The Ultimate Life," in March 2013, and was released in the theaters on September2013. There were 19 of our OSC cars that participated in seven different shoots in Wentworth, Madison,Winston-Salem, East Bend, and Mocksville. The movie was directed by Michael Landon, Jr. and starredPeter Fonda. It was a wonderful experience that we will not forget, and as a result, we (our OSC) may haveother opportunities in the future for other films when they arise.
