Golf Tips —by Jay King

Golf is more than

just a game. It

teaches us honesty,

integrity, respect, and

responsibility just

to name a few. It is

a game that can be

enjoyed by all ages for

entertainment, business, and for family

memories to last a lifetime.

Here at Hendersonville Country Club, it

is awesome to see a large number of youth

and families at our pool. However, it is

a goal of mine to have similar numbers

learning the game of golf together. Golf

can be fun for the whole family. It doesn’t

have to take up a lot of time or be only for

the “experts”.

We would like to encourage all families

to attend our Family Golf kick off night Tuesday, April 15. Our first official Family Golf day is Saturday, April 19. Family Golf will have a putt-putt course, chipping stations, and games for all families to enjoy. From beginners to advanced players, everyone will enjoy activities provided. This is open to ALL members! And this year you will have the opportunity to win 4 pre-season Carolina Panther tickets for your participation with Family Golf! Be the driving force behind your family and encourage them to be active in golf activities together.

This summer I am proud to introduce

a new junior golf program available for

all golf members. PGA Junior League

is equivalent to “Little League Baseball”,

but for golf. It features a team-vs-team

scramble format in a structured league

setting. This provides a more popular,

less stressful competition with the

emphasis being on having FUN! It is

open to boys and girls ages 13 and under.

If you are older than 13 and would like

to participate, we encourage you to come

to practices/scrimmages with our teams,

come to instructional days, or sign up as

an assistant coach to help our younger

juniors. Cost per player is $75. This entry

fee will include team jerseys, golf balls,

PGA Junior League bag tags, 5-6 regular

season league competitions, instruction

with a PGA Professional, team practices,

awards, and opportunity for All-Star

advancement. Parents are vital for a

program like this to be successful and I

would appreciate any assistance from our

parents. With parents as spectators, team-

mothers, and even coaches, this is a great

way to get entire family involved with golf.

Please contact me for further information.

Grounds —by Craig Dejong

It’s beginning to

happen on the golf

course! Spring is

here and our staff is

getting busier by the

day. Our off season

was very successful,

as we saw numerous

projects completed that will help add to

the enjoyment of your golf course. A few

highlights include: removal of hazardous

trees, new walkbridge at #5 green, and

general off season projects. Our staff still

has a few projects to complete before

mowing and maintenance takes priority

of our time. One key project is the bunker

replacement project at the 5th green.

It is currently underway and should be

completed by the end of the month.

Our aerification of the greens in March

went very well. This is a very time

consuming and labor intensive process,

and once again our staff rose to the

occasion and did and excellent job! The

greens will quickly return to normal

putting quality soon and remain there

for the remainder of the season. Our

seasonal staff members have joined us,

and we’re very excited about continuing

our successes of last year. Contact me at

[email protected].

Move it Forward and Have FUN playing the Laurel Tees!We are happy to introduce our new short Laurel Course. Beginning May 1st a new Area located on each hole, with yardage marker, as a new tee.

Perfect for families, juniors, ladies and others who aren’t comfortable on a regular long course. Par 70, approximately 3259 yards.
