Worthy Officers and Brothers All:

Happy Founders Day! As you all know, March 29th marked the 130th anniversary of the founding of our Order by the Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney. Supreme has asked all Councils to mark this occasion by holding a First Degree Exemplification in his honor. Our Council will do so on Tuesday, April 3rd so I urge you all to come out and celebrate our Founder by attending this ceremony.

Also, I would like to encourage you all to pray for Father McGivney's canonization. I have included a prayer to use for this purpose.

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called

your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead

they young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and

virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of

charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant

prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring

for the needy and outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your venerable servant, Father

Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your hold will. Through his

intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our

Lord. Amen. (Our Father) (Hail Mary) (Glory Be to the Father)

We are also entering the most sacred week of the year ... Holy Week. Now that we have traveled this path of Lent and made sacrifices intended to bring us closer to our Lord, we now suffer with him through his Passion and await his glorious Resurrection and Ascension into Heaven. Good Friday, the day the Church mourns the Crucifixion of Jesus is the only day of the year where there is no Mass celebrated and the candle representing the Light of Christ near the Tabernacle is extinguished. At the Holy Saturday Easter Vigil Mass, our parish will welcome many new Catholics through the sacraments of baptism, Holy Eucharist and confirmation. These new to our faith will be passionate about being Catholic ... maybe even passionate enough to join with Mary and her Knights. Joy will prevail on Easter Sunday morning with a blaze of glory as "Jesus Christ is Risen Today!". To all of my Brothers in Christopher Columbus, may you all have a joyous, happy and healthy Easter season!

April 29th marks my two year anniversary as the council's Financial Secretary. It's hard to believe it's been that long already! While I offer my most sincere apologies for my string of recent absences from events (work, illness and life events don't seem to care much about a person's schedule), rest assured that I am still working behind the scenes for you and am here if you need me for any reason. Feel free to call or send an e-mail if I can be of any assistance.

Happy Easter and God bless you all.

Vivat Jesus!

Allen

Some Things To Ponder

From Your Fraternal Benefits AdvisorThe added value of LTC insurance

As life expectancy increases, the number of people in need of long-term care, in their homes or outside facilities, has grown also. Since its addition to the Order’s product portfolio in 2000, long-term care (LTC) insurance has provided the Order with an excellent opportunity to further serve Knights and their families. Since 2005, every Knights

of Columbus long-term care policy comes with an added value. That added value is in the form of a service called “Provider Pathway,” a program offering

access to a network of long-term care providers at discounted rates.  The network covers: home health care, personal emergency response systems, adult day care, assisted living, skilled nursing facilities and durable medical equipment.

Eligibility for participation in this program is open to Knights of Columbus long-term care insurance policyholders, their spouses, dependent children, parents and parents-in-law.  All providers are fully credentialed and meet state licensing requirements.

If you are not currently an LTC policyholder, I suggest that we schedule some time together so that I can provide additional information on how you can avail yourself of this significant, value-added benefit.

Schedule an appointment with me today.

TO MY FELLOW BROTHERS:

 As most know Grand

Knight Peter Capece has appointed me the Pro-Life Chairman for our council.  I am honor but told Peter that if I accepted this appointment I was going to take a very active and conservative role in promoting Pro-Life.  I also mentioned to him I probably will offend some liberal members of our council and parish along with those who believe in Pro-Choice, including those in Washington. Like many Catholics, I’ve

sat around the sidelines too long!  I stayed silent during the Roe vs Wade decision because I believed our Catholic leaders would speak out, but looking back I’m not sure they spoke “as one.”  As a result, today, in the

United States, we have become what is commonly referred to as cafeteria Catholics…selecting which Catholic doctrines we will follow.

Let me be the first to step forward and say: “I’m guilty of being a cafeteria Catholic!” As a cafeteria Catholic I’ve

learned to ignore or look away when I’ve questioned or disagreed with the teachings of the Church.  I’ve never supported or believed in abortion, but I believe in the death penalty for crimes against society!  The irony of my belief is both the fetus and the criminal are human beings! Doesn’t the fourth commandment say “thou shall not kill?” Accepting this appointment

was an opportunity for me to drop the “cafeteria” as an adjective to my Catholic beliefs and become involved in celebrating the precious gift of “human life” that comes from God! Hopefully every month

though the council’s newsletter I can provide some positive thoughts and ideas we can promote Pro-Life either as a council and/or parish. With that in mind I would

like to point out that the Knights of Columbus Day of Prayer for the Unborn Child is Sunday, March 25th.  I learned of this just recently and have a prior commitment so I am unable to organize a special event to speak out against the

evil of abortion. However, prayer is very powerful and I would encourage each Brother Knight to “Pray the Rosary to End Abortion” with your family on the 25th.  Finally, I want to publically

thank GK Peter Capece for this appointment and ask each and every one of you to pray for me as I walk through this journey. God Bless… Fred J. RosenthalPro-Life Charimantherosenthalgroup@sbcglob

$6,000.00. As a result of this success we were able to donate

$3,000.00 to the Russell Home and the balance to other local charities.

We are in need of committee members and volunteers to

prepare for this year's special event.

If you are interested in joining this committee please contact Brother Tony Giamboi at: [email protected]

Your help is needed and appreciated.

“An Introduction to the Fourth Degree” if you want to use it in your discussions and I have plenty of Form 4ʼs. Remember the Fourth Degree

is committed to the preservation of the Church and the Order. We model and foster patriotism in the nations where we Knights serve.

Election of Officers- May is the Month we elect our new Officers. We are drafting a slate of candidates now. If you are interested come to the meeting this month and put your name in for the position you want to serve in.  Sr Knights Dan Rini and  Frank Regiacorte are taking names. FN notes: First, thanks to all the Knights that responded to the funerals of Sir Knights Andy Lacek and Jerry Sullivan. The turnout was great,   the professionalism was well noted and , most importantly, the families really appreciated our support and prayers.  You highlighted what it means to be a Knight.

Second, the recent Health and Human Services ruling on Health Insurance is still not settled as for those religious communities that morally do not and cannot support the contraceptive mandates. The supposed adjustment by the Obama administration , according to the US Bishops, does not address the issues raised. The Florida Catholic has  good article on this and it encourages us to keep our elected officials aware of the need to strike this ruling from the books and not let be implemented.

Third, We all are celebrating the announcement of the new Bishop for Pensacola-Tallahassee- Fr. Gregory Parks of Corpus Christi Parish here in Celebration. The first priest of the Orlando Diocese to be raised to Bishop. At 6ft 8 inches they sure wonʼt miss him when he visits the parishes.  Again a good article in this Florida Catholic.Lastly, as a knight have you checked our websites lately. Lots of good info on the Council web. The State web and the Fourth Degree web. Check them out! Fraternally Peter Stauder FN
