Everyday many people come to the Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission for a meal to perhaps temporarily sat isfy their hunger. The Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission serves 100’s of meals everyday mostly to impoverished men, women and families that include Mom, Dad and kids. We have been having more whole families in recent months than ever before. We have not established a reason why. However, it does not matter the reason—if they are hungry, we will feed them. The down side of ou r efforts, some will say, is, “that we are enabling them to stay i n their present situation.” But who are we to judge. If a pers on comes to us and they are hungry we are going to do our best to feed them. The up side is this, “to welcome needy people to our dining room and hear the expressions of gratitude that they say to each other and to us when they leave”, that makes it worth all of the effort that was put forth to prepare the meal that they had just enjoyed. And who knows, later we may have the opportunity to witness to some of them and tell them about Jesus and His Power to Save. GOSPEL

MISSION

APRIL 2005

In a land of plenty and fairly good economic times there are still many

who are hungry and homeless. Some through no fault of their

own and others for many different reasons. No matter

why— no one should have to go hungry in a city like ours.

Everyday many people come to the Anchorage

Gospel Rescue Mission for a meal to perhaps

temporarily satisfy their hunger. Every effort

is made to brighten their lives and give them the

help and encouragement they need to overcomethe problems that have led to their poverty and

homelessness. This whole process usually starts

with a hot, nutritious meal.

NO ONE IN OUR CITY SHOULD GO HUNGRY!

The Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission serves 100’s of meals everyday

mostly to impoverished men, women and families that include Mom, Dad

and kids. We have been having more whole families in recent months than

ever before. We have not established a reason why. However, it does not

matter the reason—if they are hungry, we will feed them. The down side of our efforts, some will say, is, “that we are enabling them

to stay in their present situation.” But who are we to judge. If a person comes

to us and they are hungry we are going to do our best to feed them.

The up side is this, “to welcome needy people to our dining room

and hear the expressions of gratitude that they say to each other

and to us when they leave”, that makes it worth all of the

effort that was put forth to prepare the meal that they

had just enjoyed. And who knows, later we

may have the opportunity to witness to

some of them and tell them about

Jesus and His Power to Save.

PLEASE help us in our

efforts to feed all of the

hungry, poor, needy and

homeless people that come to

us for meals by your continued

prayers and financial support to this ministry.

Thanks,

Bro. Don

“NewLife” Program Notes

“Reckon yourself dead to sin.”

Romans chapter six is a favorite passageof mine. I recall so clearly the joy of coming to understand and trust thiswonderful section of Scripture.

The truth of Romans 6 is critical to ourongoing battle with sin. In it we come tosee that the death, burial and resurrectionof Jesus Christ permanently andprofoundly changed our relationship tosin. In Galatians 2:20, Paul says, “I havebeen crucified with Christ…” In Romans6 we have explained that we, who believe, were baptized into death of Jesus Christ. That means we died when Christ died, and

therefore we died to sin as Christ died tosin.

Having died in Christ to sin means sin nolonger has any power over us! This truthis huge for the average Christian. Now just try to imagine the impact of this truthon the man who has been losing the battlewith alcohol or other drugs his whole life. This is real hope!

For the addicted man, sin’s ranting (the‘pull’ in the temptation) is anoverwhelming force. However, for thebeliever, this ranting is only a loud buthollow bluff.

Three of our men were baptized recently, symbolizing and affirming their belief inwhat Romans 6 teaches us. Now it’s theirtime to prove that what the Lord says istrue, that they are dead to sin. They mustlive it out. They must “reckon

(themselves) dead to sin.”

Serving Him with your help.

Do something today to bring gladness

To someone whose pleasures are few

Do something to drive off sadness—

Or cause someone’s dreams to come true.

Find time for a neighborly greeting

 And time to delight an old friend;

Remember, - the years are fleeting

And life’s latest day will soon end!

 Do something today that tomorrow

Will prove to be really worth while;

 Help someone to conquer sorrow

And greet the new dawn with a smile-

For only through kindness and giving

Of service and friendship and cheer,

We learn the pure joy of living

And find heaven’s happiness here. Author Unknown-

D i r e c t o r ’ s

D e s k   I Believe in Missions!WHY?

….Because the greatest mission everknown was when GOD sent His only

begotten Son into the world that theworld may be saved.

….Because the world will never bebrought to Christ until MEN bringChrist to the world.

….Because Jesus Himself taught usthat missions are the only way to makedisciples.

….Because if salvation meanseverything to me, I cannot be happyunless I share it with others.

….Because missions keep theChristians aware of the world’s needfor Christ.

….Because the missionary spirit is thegreatest hope for the world in these last

days.

….Because many people will go to amission that would never go to achurch.

….Because a mission expresses thelove of Christ by meeting both spiritualand physical needs.

The most important activity that anyindividual or church can participate in

is missions. We have a command fromour Lord, “to go and make disciples.”

This is not optional. Jesus said, “go

ye.” If we are to be obedient, we mustwin the lost through the efforts of missions and the missionaries.Supporting missions is the best way Iknow for you to keep this commandfrom our Lord. Whether it is local or

foreign, missions should be a part of your life.

The Anchorage Gospel Rescue Missionconsiders its ministry an extension of the local church. We want you to feelthat you are taking part in missions

when you support this Mission in anyway. There is no activity that takesplace on any mission field that does

not happen right here. The RescueMission is one of the greatestopportunities that you have to serve theLord as a missionary. You can pray,

witness, volunteer your time to help inmany areas or make in-kind donationsof food, clothing, supplies or you mayhelp us financially.
