So that everyone will hear the story, I print it for you here: Over a hundred years ago, in a Scottish seaside inn, a group of fishermen were relaxing after a long day at sea. As a serving maid was walking past the fishermen’s table with a pot of tea, one of the men made a sweeping gesture to describe the size of the fish he claimed to have caught. His hand collided with the teapot and sent it crashing against the whitewashed wall, where its contents left an irregular brown splotch. Standing nearby, the innkeeper surveyed the damage. “That stain will never come out,” he said in dismay. “The whole wall will have to be repainted.” “Perhaps not.” All eyes turned to the stranger who had just spoken. “What do you mean?” asked the innkeeper. “Let me work with the stain,” said the stranger, standing up from his table in the corner. “If my work meets your approval, you won’t need to repaint the wall.” The stranger picked up a box and went to the wall. Opening the box, he withdrew pencils, brushes, and some glass jars of linseed oil and pigment. He began to sketch lines around the stain and fill it in here and there with dabs of color and swashes of shading. Soon a picture began to emerge. The random splashes of tea had been turned into the image of a stag with a magnificent rack of antlers. At the bottom of the picture, the man inscribed his signature. Then he paid for his meal and left. The innkeeper was stunned when he examined the wall. “Do you know who that man was?” he said in amazement. “The signature reads ‘E.H. Landseer!’” Indeed, they had been visited by the well-known painter of wild life, Sir Edwin Landseer. God wants to take the stains and disappointments of our lives and not merely erase them, but rather turn them into a thing of beauty. Citation: Mistreated. Leadership, Vol. 12, no. 3. on the sunday after Easter i shared the following story in sanctuary Worship but not in First Fellowship worship. so that everyone will hear the story, i print it for you here:

over a hundred years ago, in a scottish seaside inn, a group of fishermen were relaxing after a long day at sea. As a serving maid was walking past the fishermen’s table with a pot of tea, one of the men made a sweeping gesture to describe the size of the fish he claimed to have caught. His hand collided with the teapot and sent it crashing against the

whitewashed wall, where its contents left an irregular brown splotch.

“If my work meets your approval, you won’t need to repaint the wall.”

The stranger picked up a box and went to the wall.

GIVING WITH PuRPOSE

Our Ministry Plan for the first six months of FY2013 reflects giving at $2,178,094 – an increase of almost 9% over last year’s giving at this same point in time. What a blessing that your commitment to the work of our Lord through His church remains strong – both in your financial gifts to the church and in your gifts of time and service – as just evidenced in our Serving the City weekend. God’s Word tells us that all we do and give in His service will be blessed and we can see His blessing through us in many areas of ministry.

We have a summer of opportunities ahead of us, even as we enter the third quarter of this year when we are vacationing and enjoying the summer season. During this time we ask that each person respond to God’s blessings and continue to open his/her heart to the needs of God’s people through His church.

We also ask at this time of year for you to take a serious look at your giving records. Are you up to date on your financial commitment to your church? Has God especially blessed you this year and can that blessing be passed on to help meet the needs of others? Have you left God and His church out of your financial plan and is it time to begin tithing a portion of your resources to His work? You have a special opportunity to respond May 5 when we ask:

ARE YOU BEING TRANSFORMED INTO THE GIVING IMAGE OF GOD?BRING A SPECIAL OFFERING.

His Banner Over Me is LoveIn honor of Holy Week and Easter Sunday, our Gathering Place and sanctuary were each graced with four colorful and unique banners depicting symbols of Christ’s gift of love to us. The first banner symbolizes the hill of Calvary, where Jesus gave up His human life so that we could have the gift of eternal life. The second banner symbolizes the crown of thorns, which Jesus wore in His suffering, because we mean that much to Him. The third banner depicts the three crosses, reminding us that Jesus hung between two criminals - one who mocked Him, and one who asked for His help. Everyone throughout time has the same choice to make as those criminals. The last banner

symbolizes the Resurrection -- the light that burst forth from the gloom, and the joy of learning on Easter morning that our King had risen. He is risen indeed!

First thoughtsDavid hull, Pastor

on the sunday after Easter i shared the following story in sanctuary Worship but not in First Fellowship worship. so that everyone will hear the story, i print it for you here:

over a hundred years ago, in a scottish seaside inn, a group of fishermen were relaxing after a long day at sea.

“If my work meets your approval, you won’t need to repaint the wall.”

The stranger picked up a box and went to the wall.

12, no. 3.

This is a beautiful story of transformation. The master artist takes the stains of our lives and transforms them into a thing of beauty when we allow the master to work on us. That is what the Living Lord does for Easter People. We are talking about that on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights. Will you join us? Will you allow God to transform you?
