Community Fundraiser UpdateThank you for your incredible generosity over these past few weeks. The response to the needs of the families affected by Brunswick’s fires has been overwhelming. Our Community

Outreach Team has been meeting regularly with the victims as they begin to rebuild their lives. As of right now, these families are

very grateful and because of your goodness – they are blessed. The process of resettling into new homes will take at least another

six weeks. We are meeting regularly with anyone who has need and will continue to do so.

At this time, we have sufficient resources to respond to their needs. As a result, the Neighbors Helping Neighbors fundraiser scheduled for April 23rd has been postponed until the fall. The

proceeds of this event will be used to establish a Community Crisis Fund to respond to any future needs and situations that arise in

    our local community.

Watch this space for the newly scheduled fall date. Thank you again for your exceptional support over these past few weeks. Together, we will continue to lift up the Brunswick community.

…”Jesus said: “My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.” This Fourth Sunday of Easter is known as Good Shepherd Sunday. The scriptures draw upon the beautiful image of Jesus as our Good Shepherd who faithfully and carefully tends to the flock of the Lord. As the Shepherd, he is leading us on the path that leads to eternal glory – the life of heaven. On the path, He provides and cares for each of us in our need. In the most caring and loving way, He also observes when we wander from the path and continues to call out to us and invites us back to the pathway of the Lord. The power of this image is that there is a unique and profound relationship between the Shepherd and the flock. They so clearly recognize the voice of the Shepherd. Our prayer this week is that each of us can spend some time clearly recognizing the voice of the Shepherd and listening as He calls out to each of us.

…This weekend we are blessed to celebrate and share the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick with those who are struggling with health issues or are advancing in years. It’s a powerful and beautiful expression of the Shepherd’s care for the flock. Jesus desires to be with us and care for us at each moment of our life journey. He desires to be the Divine Mercy that we seek – that we desperately need.

…Father Rob and I have good conversations almost every day. As he comes pretty close to his first anniversary of ordination, we talk often about the blessing that we have, as priests, to bring the care and compassion of Christ with our community. A great blessing is to be able to offer care and God’s blessing to those who are in the hospital. Please let us know if a member of your family is admitted into the hospital by calling the Parish Office. We are also blessed to have Deacon Frank lead a team of our members who visit at Medina Hospital, and Deacon Gary who does the same at Southwest General Hospital. It’s one way we can extend the care of the Shepherd to the flock.

…We are very blessed in our parish community with so many who bring the compassion of the Shepherd to those

who have lost loved ones. Our funerals are prayerful and bring comfort to our families thanks to the dedication and care of our New Life Choir, along with those who serve as greeters and acolytes (Mass Servers). Together they create a sense of care, welcome, and compassion. Thanks to all who serve in these ‘funeral’ ministries. We will be gathering together as a group this Tuesday to give thanks to God for these servants of the Lord and our community. If you would like to learn more about being a part of the New Life Choir (which sings at funerals) or being a greeter/server for our funerals, please contact the Parish Office. It’s flexible….and as any of those who assist will tell you…it’s a beautiful and meaningful ministry which extends the Shepherd’s care.

…Jenni Wasowski has been a great blessing to some of our youngest members. Since 2010, she has lead our Sunday morning Journey with Jesus program for our three, four and five year olds. Thanks to her thoughtful care and leadership, each week the children learn about the Good Shepherd Jesus Christ. Jenni and her husband Mike have three children of their own. As we conclude the catechetical year, Jenni has shared that she needs to have more time to shepherd her own three children and will be stepping away from this ministry. We are so grateful for her leadership, creativity and great care for our youngest members.

…We had a GREAT Pastoral Council meeting this past Tuesday. About 25 of us gathered together to reflect on the pastoral and spiritual needs of our parish for the upcoming year. It was inspiring to hear the input and feedback from our members about their constant desire to grow closer to the Lord and strengthen the bonds of faith in their families and in the family of God. In the next few weeks we will be sharing a draft of the thoughts and needs of our community for the year ahead. The PPC is an important part of the shepherding care of our community. We are blessed by their commitment to the Lord and our parish community.

…We need a flock of sheep to care for the flock…..meaning….we still need lots of people to help us next Saturday for

our Community Service Day. Our hope is to have hundreds and hundreds of us out and about in our community in the name of the Lord. We need about 200 more of our members for two hours…that’s all. Many hands make for light work and will allow us to clean, fix up, repair, and make our community, our parish campus and the lives of 30 of our seniors much, much better. To learn more or to see the list of projects, please see today’s bulletin, go online (www.StAmbrose.us) or call Lisa Homady at 330.460.7315.

…As we continue the joy of the Easter season, the signs of new life are all around us. Thanks be to God, I think spring is also here….praise the Lord. We could also use some people who love to garden and are willing to adopt a patch around the parish campus. Many hands make for a beautiful parish campus. If you can give a little time to make our parish a place of God’s inspiration and reflection, please contact Terri at 216.990.0082.

…Spring also brings wedding season! It’s a great blessing to share in this special time with those entering into the Sacrament of Marriage. We are also blessed this year with many couples who are having their marriage blessed (recognized in the Church). If we can help you, please let me know ([email protected]). Please say a prayer for all preparing for Marriage. May they know the outpouring of God’s love and care.

…This is an amazing time of year. We are starting to wind down the pastoral year (PSR ends in a week), First Communion and wedding season is upon us, we are actively planning for next year, and each day comes with new life…new joys….new opportunities. The Shepherd wants to lead and carefully guide each of us, our families and our parish family. Pray this week that you can recognize and hear the call of the Shepherd who wants to lead each of us on the path to fullness of life each day and, in time, walk us safely home to heaven. Be at peace. May Jesus the Good Shepherd guide you and care for you with a generous and tender love.

As an important piece of FIAT, we are blessed with a wonderful core team of volunteers that help to facilitate and plan our Sunday night gatherings. This year we have been blessed with the addition of Christine Sobek. Christine is a

longtime member of Saint Ambrose. She has a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work from Bowling Green State University and a Master of Social Work from The Ohio State University. She currently works as a Medical Social Worker at Crossroads Hospice, providing emotional support, counseling and resources to patients and families in order to increase support and comfort at the end of life.

Christine was involved in FIAT throughout all of high school. After she graduated from grad school, and returned home to work, she decided to get involved again on the core team. Her boyfriend, Dan, was not raised Catholic, but became interested in learning more about the Catholic religion when he started going to mass with her. They both got involved with RCIA, due to Dan’s desire to become Catholic. It was, and continues to be a great experience for both of them. Christine learned a great deal more about the Catholic religion through this experience.

Christine is interested in continuing to be involved in RCIA and FIAT, and is considering getting involved in some of the many other ministries at Saint Ambrose in the near future. We are blessed to have Christine as part of our Family of God!

“Help one another. This is what Jesus teaches us. This is what I do. And I do it with my heart.” – Pope Francis Following the call from Pope Francis to help one another, we have two wonderful opportunities coming up. On April 23rd, we will participate in Community Day. Community day runs from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm. We will gather at Saint Ambrose in Hilkert Hall, and will be working as a parish family to help those in our community. There are numerous projects, and many helping hands are needed that day. Together we can do amazing things. We encourage everyone to wear red that day to show unity. A pizza lunch will be provided.

A second opportunity for service comes on April 30th. We will join with others from our parish and various other parishes and organizations to build up the city of Cleveland one neighborhood at a time. We will work to improve the city for current residents and also make it a welcoming place for refugees seeking a safe environment.

All high school students are invited to join us. This day is also open to non-parishioners, so invite friends to come along. Some of the projects will include painting, gardening, mulching, and basic repairs, to name a few. We will meet at the Lehner Center at St. Ambrose at 8:30 am and will return to campus around 1:30 pm. We will be working in the neighborhood surrounding Thomas Jefferson Elementary School on West 46th Street in Cleveland. Transportation will be provided to the work site, and we will also gather together to eat lunch, which is provided!

All high school students are encouraged to attend one or both of these wonderful opportunities. Service events always prove to be enjoyable and engaging for all involved and truly make a difference in the lives of others.

For more information on these service opportunities or other happenings in youth ministry, please contact us in the Youth Ministry office! -Amy
