April 10, 2016 Third Sunday of Easter
1883-2016
WHAT’S IN YOUR HEART?
Why praise God? Because, of course, God is worthy of praise. Praise, though, is also
a response as well as an obligation, an expression of gratitude for forgiveness, for the
blessings of life, and for the sacrifice of others.
For what do you praise God?
How do you praise God?

Prayer for the Third Sunday of Easter
O God, whose blessed Son
made himself known to his
disciples in the breaking of
bread: Open the eyes of our
faith, that we may behold him
in all his redeeming work; who
lives and reigns with you, in
the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.
Amen.

PRIEST/CELEBRANT SCHEDULE Subject to Change
My Dear Parish Family, First, I would like to say how much I enjoyed the Divine Mercy Devotions we celebrated as a parish community last weekend. Thank you to Father Carlos, Carrie Barillas, Fr. Jerome, Deacon Romy, Deacon Gerry and all the musicians, chefs and volunteers who made everything happen so wonderfully. I do need to apolo-gize for leaving a couple things out at last Sunday’s 5pm Mass. What is it they say? “Hindsight is always 20-20.” I’ll explain: Many people were not fully aware that the 5 o’clock was to be a bilingual Mass for the Feast of the Divine Mercy. Our three priests concelebrated, combining the 5 & 6:30 instead of hav-ing two separate masses. Although many of the projection slides were great, we should have had the English words up while Spanish was being read and vice versa. The older I get the more I need to learn. Occasionally, we may visit this same scenario again and we will let the community know what is being planned. Speaking of which, a few months ago we surveyed our parish in conjunction with the Faith in Our Future planning endeavor by the Diocese. I want to share a few points with you as a general update. A 5-person Parish Core Team has been meeting regularly and have completed our parish self-study. Thank you to all who participated in the survey (225 received) and attended (250 people) the town hall meetings we held. The results of the survey indicated that we, as a parish are doing very well on most counts. However, there is indi-cated the need for better communications regarding the varied as-pects of parish and school life. There will be more information and updates forthcoming as we con-tinue the next phase of this effort in working with the other parishes in our cohort: St. Luke’s, St. Justin’s and St. Maximilian Kolbe. Soon the complete results of the survey will be posted on our parish website. God bless you all! Fr. Scott

EXCERPT FROM “MERCY AND TRUTH SHALL MEET” BISHOP DAVID M. O’CONNELL, C.M.
Mercy helps us understand the Church of Christ. In the Gospel of
Matthew we read: “You are Peter and upon this ‘rock’ I will build
my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will
give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you
bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose
on earth shall have be loosed in heaven (Matthew 16: 18-19).” Pope Francis
reminds us: “Mercy is the very foundation of the Church’s life. All of her pas-
toral activity should be caught up in the tenderness she makes present to believ-
ers; nothing in her preaching and in her witness to the world can be lacking in
mercy. The Church’s very credibility is seen in how she shows merciful and
compassionate love (VN, 10).” And Paul writes that we “do not lose heart by
the mercy of God (2 Corinthians 4: 1).”

Estimada Familia Parroquial,
asamblea general parroquial.

muerte no podrán vencer. (2 Corintios 4:1).”
