Before leaving New York, I estimated that we might require from the r e

$ 5 00 ,000., and in case this S11.111 was required, I s u ggested t h at you s h ou l d

ma k e sal e s o f securities for mt account without waiting too long for out­

side prices, and tha t you would b e atlib ert y to use any of my money for

t h e Company's purposes.

Mr. Sawyer h a s d r a wn, up to this time, $340,000., and t h inks he will

require from $ 6 0 , 0 00 . to $100 ,000 . more. This will be d et e r mined t his

we ek.

Our Colmnbia Rive r bridg e h as b e en connect e d over t h e main channel,

a nd ou r terminal property in Seattle has been acquired and paid f or, with

the exception o f about $9 0 ,0 00 .

We h ave h ad, during t h e p a st six weeks, a succession of storms, floo d s

a nd s li d es. The hi gh wat e r throughout 'th e country betwe en here and the '

Pac i f ic Coast ha s done great d ama g e i n some sec t ions, particularly on t he

Northern P a ci f ic bet ween Bismarck and the Yellowstone - and in the Yellow-

stone vall ey. We have so far escape d a ny consi d erab19 d amage, except

delay s f rom rock a n d snow s lides, and from snow blockad es. Th is ha s

l argely int e rfered with our revenue s, and increased our e xpenses.

delays along the Kootenai River, and in Tum-wate r Canon, caused by rock

slides where the material on t h e mountain sides has been softened by

t he unusual amount of water from melting snow.

We find ourselves over-run with applications fo r cars f o r s h ingl e"s '

an d lumber from the Paci f ic Coast. The unfilled calls now amount to

ov e r seven hundred cars.

We have written resolutions to conform somewhat more in detail

with the Statutes , in regard to our Preferred stock, and t h ese will be

f orwarded to you to~day .
