Street Photography

Graffiti tags on the walls of this overpass stood out to me as I walked along it

therefore I intended to create a loud image by heightening the clarity to bring out

the vibrant colours of the tags.

I stumbled upon this hidden spot and it made me feel confined due to the metal

chain barrier and the bars on the door. I then noticed the man had crosses for eyes

which signifies death so whilst editing this image I attempted to give it a darker feel

by bringing out the cold tones.

I purposely took this image from this angle as I wanted to create the feeling of

depth. I toned down the sharpness which produced softer edges to combat the

foggy weather conditions that also emphasise the depth perception of the image.

I find this image that I took particularly interesting as the derelict building has a

negative vibe which is especially shown through scaffolding and the absence of

windows yet the graffiti gives it life through the fresh and bright use of colours.

Overall the conflicting contrast of colours create a visual oxymoron which is what I

attempted to emphasise whilst editing.

To embody the neon colours with a more physical aspect I increased the hue of the

image. When I first came across this graffiti I did not understand the message

therefore I stood at this unusual angle whilst taking this photograph to reflect my

feeling of confusion.

I have emphasised the cold colours used in this piece by creating a blue tint which

ties into the emotion of feeling down. I did this because whilst looking at this image

I interpreted it in a way that made me feel uneasy as I felt that it was created by

somebody that was trying to express their negative feelings.

‘Fear of a crap planet’ is a statement that many people can relate to and I felt

connected with this image. It is an emotive and effective piece of art and has a

realism element. I zoomed in on this shot as it was not possible to capture it

otherwise and I increased the contrast levels as I felt it was a necessity to convey

the deep meaning.

I am unsatisfied with this image. I faced difficulties trying to capture it due to the

busyness of the road. However, it was the photograph on the left that particularly

drew my attention. I cropped this image and sharpened it to underline the amazing

detail.

This street art is an example of how culture can be communicated to the public in

art form. I did not feel the need to edit this photograph too much as the image and

Bob Marley’s inspirational quote alone is strong enough.

This piece depicts a strong message that I believe is linked to religious beliefs. It is

aesthetically pleasing as the amount of attention to detail included is fascinating. I

took it from a lower angle to represent the woman as a hierarchal figure.

Landscape photography

Although a wide-angle lens was not used for this shot, I attempted to take this

photograph as wide as possible to gain as much as I could from the autumnal

scenery. I believe the pathway and how the accompanying trees focus around a

central point creates an essence of mystery.

This is an example of architectural landscape. The front of the photo is more in

focus which draws attention to the greenery. However, the well established building

in the background remains a prominent part of the landscape.

Portrait photography

I used a phone light to enhance the quality of lighting in this photograph. The white

background gives a better outline of the model.

I decided to take a close-up side profile shot for this genre simply to show the

model from a different angle. This use of lighting and the positioning of the model

meant that a small shadow was projected onto the canvas.

Sport/action shot photography

I used my smart phone camera to capture this action shot as it has a fast shutter

speed and it allows for burst photos. This was a more convenient way of taking

this photo and I wanted to demonstrate another form of technology.

I set my camera to have a fast shutter speed, however, it took me a couple of

attempts to get the perfect shot and I am aware that the background is a little off-

putting. I turned up the brightness as the skatepark was fairly dark but I was unable

to use flash as it would have been too distracting. Overall I am happy with the

result.

Social documentary photography

I wanted to capture a festive social element whilst exploring social documentary

photography because it was relevant to the time I was taking photos. The image

was made warmer by making changes to the contrast which relates to the joyful

feeling of Christmas.

Pathetic fallacy was present when relating this image that was captured on a rainy

day to the feelings it creates- negativity. The abandoned office chair leaves many

unanswered questions. I slightly heightened the blacks of this photograph to give it

a spooky feel.

Fashion photography

I heightened the temperature on this image as the model is modelling winter

accessories including the bobble hat and scarf therefore I wanted the image to

portray warmth. I believe that the plain brick background is effective and

compliments the colours in the model’s outfit.

I did not feel the need to edit this image as the scenery already brings out the

blacks and helps sharpen the accessories that are being modelled- the umbrella

and the handbag. The models positioning in the shot allowed a better view of the

accessories.
