A. Eligibility Criteria:

The initiatives will be primarily evaluated on the following criteria:a) Innovativeness of initiative

b) Sustained involvement of students with the initiative and/or Sustained impact of the initiative on the communityc) Long-Term sustainability of the initiatived) Extent of impact on the community involvedThe committee may also introduce additional criteria that it deems appropriate. Social initiatives that are purely part of course-related projects may not be considered eligible for the award in the absence of a sustained involvement of students after the completion of the course. Further, continuation of a social initiative that was set-up in earlier years would not qualify unless the applicants demonstrate significant changes in the operational aspects or the focus of the initiative. B. Application Procedure:

Students who wish to apply for the award must provide the required information in the form attached in the annexure.

C. Documentation required from applicants(s):Applicants should submit at least one of the following documents listed below:

1. A letter from the faculty guiding/supervising the initiative stating the capacity in which they were involved and the length of time for which they were so involved. 2. In the case where the initiative is carried out through a student society, then the faculty guide for the committee may give such letter. 3. A letter by the official community representative (e.g. Sarpanch) stating that the applicants were involved with the initiative

4. Clippings of newspaper articles on the initiative5. Recognition of initiative and the applicants on any other forum (certificates, awards, photographs, etc.)Annexure

C. Briefly describe your role(s) in the Initiative:

We coordinated the entire initiative by liaising with the different stakeholders including representatives of our partner NGOs, about 30 schools across Jamshedpur, corporate houses and faculty, staff & students of XLRI. Our role involved visiting about 30 schools, housing societies and faculty quarters to collect the clothes & other commodities donated by them. We subsequently invited more than 50 tribal students from the tribal communities from Bhalubasha and Karendih & organized a painting & an essay competition on their vision of a vibrant India. Subsequently we set up a funds collection drive through our wish tree initiative. Using these proceeds we purchased medicines, dry rations, and clothes & subsequently donated them to the differently abled inmates of Nirmal Hriday old age home. D. Central Theme of Initiative:

Our aim was to lead by example to motivate people from different strata of the society to experience the joy of giving back their bit for the society. The central theme was based on involving as many different stakeholders who would in turn motivate others to donate. E. Community/Population Segment Involved:

The community segment involved in here was the impoverished and underprivileged kids and senior citizens in and around Jamshedpur.F. Reasons for choice of particular community/population segment:

We chose to work for the welfare of this community since it was among the most neglected in the society. Impoverished senior citizens suffering from Alzheimers disease & cerebral palsy were treated as outcasts. Our efforts to spend time with them, understand their feelings and help their cause were meant to motivate students and youth to come forward and gift their time for this neglected segment.Secondly our initiative, Beneficiary-Benefactor collected funds for differently abled sportspersons who are training to compete in the Paralympics.G. Reasons for choice of the social problem(s):

Once again we believe that poverty is a stigma that has crippled the Indian society and more so in Jamshedpur. Our efforts were meant to create a sustained awareness regarding that and inculcate a sense of ownership among the affluent sections of the society to look after the underprivileged ones. Also through our Beneficiary Benefactor program we were promoting the education of young tribal kids and of differently abled sportspersons, which would go a long way in making them responsible Indian citizens & contributing towards the nations growth. Beneficiary-benefactor is unique in the sense it targeted differently abled sportspersons who are training for Paralympics, a segment which no other initiative tagets.H. The Joy of giving Week is a nationwide initiative. But mostly it involves corporate houses. Our initiative is unique that it encourages every strata of society to contribute their bit-right from auto-rickshaw drivers to sweepers to students to shopkeepers to faculty. Other child adoption initiatives are run by corporate houses including Mahindra Trustss Nanhi Kali.

When did actual implementation of the initiative commence? :

The actual implementation of the initiative commenced on the 1st of October & it is still ongoingI. What was the most recent activity done by you in connection with the initiative? When was this activity carried out?

The most recent activity was the donation of funds for Jeevika in December 2014 and subsequently visiting Jeevika and interacting with the differently abled athletes on December 20th.J. Key Achievements of the Initiative to date:

1. Fundraising of Rs. 50,000 for the differently abled sports persons of Jeevika2. Fundraising of Rs. 20,000 for education of tribal students through Jharkhand Tribal Fund

3. Fundraising of Rs. 25,000 for providing 3 months rations and medicines for the inmates of Nirmal Hriday old age home

4. Spreading awareness of poverty and donation initiatives across 30 schools in Jamshedpur5. Daan Utsav 2014 included a wide range of events including Vastra-Samman, a donation drive to collect wearable clothes and Ann-Daan, a donation & distribution drive for dry ration for the under-served and needy segments of the society. On 3rd October the members of Sigma & volunteers from XLRI interacted with inmates of Nirmal Hriday shelter for the differently abled children and elders. Sigma donated the basic daily provisions including rice, oil, clothes, soap & medicines which it had collected from the students as part of the Wish Tree Initiative. We have also raised close to Rs. 70,000/- through the beneficiary-benefactor program. As part of Keh Kaha Day, Sigma hosted 50tribal students from Bhalubasha and Karendih centres of Digital Literacy Mission (DLM), an organization promoting education in the tribal communities.O.
