Steps to retrieve data:

1.  Application sends request to OS

2.  OS legacy storage stack sends request to SAS Controller

3.  SAS Controller sends request to internal CPU on SSD

4.  SSD CPU determines location of data on flash memory

5.  Retrieves data 6.  Sends data back to

internal CPU to be repackaged into SAS command

7.  Sends data up to SAS Controller

8.  Sends data to DRAM

Steps to retrieve data:

1.  Application sends request to VSL

2.  Virtual Storage Layer locates data on flash memory and requests DMA transaction

3.  Data sent to DRAM
