Started in 2009.

In September, Nokia started a lawsuit against Apple.

Apple violated all of those patents because Iphone:

Is a wireless communication device,

Includes encoders/decoders for bi-directional voice and data

communication.

Next month, Apple started its own lawsuit for using 13 of its

patents.

These companies have been locked in a fierce battle since.

Overall, Nokia has filed lawsuits against Apple alleg ing

infringement on of a total of 37 patents.

THE BEGINING

March 2 2010, Apple sued smartphone maker HTC for patent

infringement to US International Trade Commission (ITC) and

in US District Court in De laware

10 May, Htc responded by filling a complaint to the ITC.

28 May 10 S3 Graphics also filed an ITC complaint againstApple.

06 Jul HTC made counterclaims as a defense defense against

Apple's Delaware complaint.

13 Jan 2011 Apple filed a declaratory judgment action in

Northern California against S3

12 May S3 made counterclaims against Apple's declaratory

judgment.

In July, 2011 ITC (The United States International Trade

Commission) ruled in Apple's favor on two of the 20 patents.

1 Aug, 2011 Apple's dispute with HTC went global as HTC filed

lawsuit in the UK.

16 August, 2011 HTC has filed yet another lawsuit againstApple.

8 September, 2011 HTC sued Apple in cour t and filed a

complaint at the U .S. International Trade Commission,

alleging infringement of the patents obtained from Google

just a week before.

22 September, 2011 S3 Graphics filed two new complaints

against Apple.

An import ban against HTC's Android -based products could be

ordered before the end of the year as a result of the US

International Trade Commissions verdict.

24 Oct, 2011 The ITC staff's ini tial position on a potential

import ban against HTC's Android-based devices was that sucha sanction "is not contrary to the public interest.

Exeption will most likely be made to Htcs smartphones with

4G capabilities.

Nov 21, 2011 ITC dismissed S3 Graphics complaint against

Apple and found no violation.

There are 19 ongoing lawsuits at this stage .

Both in Australia and Germany, Galaxy Tab 10.1 is prevented

from being sold or advertised.

Samsung will most likely win German injunction(s) against

Apple's 3G-capable products in late January. If it does,Samsung demands are:

1. A permanent injunction against the distribution.

2. Compensation of damages (and information required to

calculate them) relating to past sales.

3. A recall from the retail channel, and the destruction of all

3G-capable Apple products.

Motorola has a better position than Samsung or HTC.

Apple will most likely be accused of infringing the patent-in-

suit with any products containing the iCloud client software.

Would cause an enormous economical damage.

Apple is loosing in this case.

CURRENT SITUATION

HTC is supported by Google, but doesnt really have any

patents that could be used use for an exchange with Apple for

a peacefull settlement.

Samsung launched a global patent litigation against Apple,

thus forcing it to fight this patent war in many fronts. Motorola versus Apple lawsuits are the ones that are most

likely to make Apples current leaders rethink their current

strategy.
