Re: Prelim/JR/WCA/542 and Prelim/JR/WCA/541

Dear Jon,

In response to the application for the addition of a bridleway and upgrade of footpath 36. I can confirm that I have used the path in question on many occasions by horseback together with companions. I cannot recall any instances where I was stopped or questioned about using this particular route. On the matter of the upgrade of footpath 25 to a bridleway, again I have used this for many years also travelling by horseback across Tregonning Hill. In recent years the present owners of Tregonning Hill House have put in a cattle grid and locked gating on the right of way, that is certainly not horse friendly and prevents the passage of horses as in the past. I and others have not been able to use this path for horseback riding since these obstructions have been put in place. I believe there is evidence by word of mouth that the right of way (25) across Tregonning Hill was a Cart Way and used to transport china clay from the working on top of the hill to sea-transport at Porthleven. I believe the china clay works were discovered by William Cooksworthy and I recall a plaque being installed on the public right of way to mark this historic event. In fact he discovered china clay deposits in Breage and Tregonning Hill and the existence of the china clay industry today, is owed to this disused clay pit on Tregonning Hill. The continuance of PROW(25) by upgrading PROW (76) is common-sense to allow the users to continue using PROW (25) down to Balwest. Again I can confirm that there were no instances were I or other users of PROW (25) were stopped or questions about using this PROW from those properties at the Balwest end of the PROW. I am in contact with the Breage and Germoe Bridleways Association and fully supportive of their work and initiatives to get as many horse riders off the roads and onto bridleways were possible. I trust that this is in order and look forward to a favourable outcome.

Kind regards

Cornwall Councillor Breage, Germoe and Sithney Division
