Appendix C: Community Center Events
The Community Center will be used for all the current and future activities of the Sirvientes de Cristo group, including the following Yearly or bi-annually: Bible Fiesta Medical/Dental Clinic
Monthly: Medical Clinic
Weekly: Religious instruction Woodworking classes Woodworking workshops Sewing/crotchet workshops Sewing/crotchet classes Additional information on some of these events is given in the next few pages.
Bible Fiesta
A three day bible camp for the children of the barrio. This event includes religious instruction, skits, games, music, and arts and crafts, centered on a particular religious theme. Three hundred to three
hundred and fifty children attend the Bible Fiesta each year.
Medical/Dental Clinic
A multi-day event during which local medical and dental personnel are brought into the barrio to of-fer free care to all residents, serving 500 to 700 individuals with medical check-ups, vitamins, pre-
scription drugs, dental work, vision care, and personal hygiene instruction.
Life Skills Development
To improve the material well-being of the residents of the barrio, classes and workshops are held in practical life skills such as sewing, crocheting, woodworking and cooking.
Barrio Outreach
The heart of the mission is the group’s relationship with the residents of La Granja. Developing and sustaining this relationship entails everything from walking the barrio streets and conversing with
the population, to organizing games for the youth.
Support and Solidarity
The team supports a number of partners in Honduras, assisting them with some of their day-to-day responsibilities and giving them direct financial support as possible. Partners include the Casa de
Belen Grade School and the Missionaries of Charity, who run a facility for HIV-positive children in a nearby city.
Fire and Light
A faith formation event that builds on the momentum created by the Bible Fiesta, open to barrio ado-lescents who are too old for that event. Activities are targeted at the situations and temptations that
these youth confront .
