Purpose A. The purpose of this research is to work with the USBE to evaluate the effects of the Utah Co-teaching Project (a USBE Professional Development Program) on student achievement outcomes, using student data collected by teachers and school districts. For more detailed information, please refer to the included copy of the Institutional Review Board Application for Utah State University, and the research proposal submitted to the USBE. 1. Project title: An Evaluation of Co-teaching Based on Student Achievement Data 2. Potential benefits to USBE: For the past five years, the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) has led The Utah Co-Teaching Project. This project aims to create inclusive environments in public schools throughout Utah by providing effective training and on-going coaching in co-teaching, as well as inclusive educational strategies. The primary content area of focus for the Utah Co-Teaching Project is mathematics, but training and supports are provided to teachers who teach other content areas, such as Language Arts, as well. Co-teaching pairs, consisting of a general education teacher and special education teacher who will be teaching together in the upcoming school year, receive training in the summer as well as on-going coaching throughout the school year. Thus far, the Utah Co-Teaching Project has focused on instruction at the middle school level. The Utah Co-Teaching Project has provided services to teachers in numerous school districts throughout the past
