DO NOT BUY WITH SILVER LAME THREADS Rope with silver lame threads are more stiff, and its very difficult to keep knot secured at end of rope. Therefor handling , catching,spinning, skipping with the rope become more difficult for the gymnast. In general, most of the ropes in our store are standard three meters long. They would be acceptable for any gymnast under 5’11” (180cm) tall. Usually the length of the rope is too big thus it needs to be adjusted. The rope needs to be cut on both sides (so that the center of the rope is not moved) and tied with two similarly sized knots, on both sides. To determine the size - stand on the rope, the knots should be between your underarms and shoulders. SASAKI’s nylon ropes model M-280 or polyester rope model M-242. Those are the heaviest ropes with a 1cm diameter. The CHACOTT and PASTORELLI ropes are also made of nylon but with a smaller diameter, therefore they’re lighter.

All rope needs to have the FIG APPROVED WITH STAMP TO MEET NEW FIG REQUIREMENTS

REGARDING APPARATUS WHICH ONE IS THE BEST? How to choose the best apparatus: your coach is the best source of information! There is a constant search for new, innovative, original, more difficult ways to handle apparatuses in Rhythmic Gymnastics. As a consequence each of the apparatuses in used in specific ways, exploiting its unique characteristics and its physics. A specific handling, a specific throw or a specific catch may be the easiest when performed with apparatus X but another handling, another throw or another catch may be the hardest when performed on the same apparatus X. If one specific handling, one specific throw or one specific catch is easier with an apparatus, someone will find a way to use that handling, that throw or that catch in a more difficult context just to score more points and overcome their opponent. And each gymnasts will have more fondness for a specific apparatus. For another gymnast that will be different. Thus asking which is the more difficult Rhythmic Gymnastics apparatus is a bit like asking which is the hardest instrument in an orchestra. There is none. Each instrument is used at the top of its possibilities and using it at the top requires top skills.

HARD AND SOFT “Hard” apparatuses, like ball, clubs or hoops are easier because they are “alive” without your intervention. Ribbon is semi-hard because it has a soft part (the ribbon) and a hard part (the stick). Rope is the softer of all of them. You have to give life to the ribbon and to the rope and control the trajectory of the whole apparatus by applying force to the endings. It’s very easy to loose control of a rope during echappées; ribbon can make knots easily. Very easily. I mean very, very, very easily;

Page 16: Apparatus requirements for Sunshine Coast Rhythmic ... · Sunshine Coast Rhythmic Gymnastics Inc Apparatus requirements for Sunshine Coast Rhythmic Gymnastics Competitive Team All

the clubs are two, you may have to control, throw and catch them at different times and in different directions; Properly catching a rope requires you to grab both ends too. Throwing a rope requires you to keep it in tension and release it properly to prevent it from losing its shape during the flight. Lots of recreative gymnasts can’t properly throw and catch a rope; ball and hoops (and to a lesser extent clubs) can roll far from you if they fall on the ground, go out of the floor and kiss you goodbye. Rope and ribbon stay where they are, if you miss a catch; hoop is a bit unwieldy and so on. Competitive gymnasts overcome all these difficulties at the beginning of their career but then they get to perform all extreme handlings and combinations of them with body work. Apparatus are in constant evolution, and as a coach i have to be aware of all new rules, regulations as they change every year or every semester! “Every apparatus is hard to master in its own way, so to master them all you have to train hard, no matter how tired you are.”

Page 17: Apparatus requirements for Sunshine Coast Rhythmic ... · Sunshine Coast Rhythmic Gymnastics Inc Apparatus requirements for Sunshine Coast Rhythmic Gymnastics Competitive Team All

How to Care for Apparatus

Rope A rope made out of nylon could be either hand washed or washed in the machine on a “Gentle” cycle, in the warm water (up to 85°F). Just add a small portion of the detergent. No bleaching. This way the rope won’t lose its color. Attention The ropes are made of special thread, which is easily shrunk with moisture. Please note the followings: * Do not hand wash. * Do not use the dryer machine. * Wipe sweat or stain by dry cloth. * Do not leave it in moist place for a long time * Do not leave the sweat on product after performance. Hoop Always keep your hoop in the hoop cover to prevent it from getting scratched. Most of the hoops are made of Polythene (or its forms). Polythene is known for its flexibility/plasticity thus the hoops are not breaking easily. However, Polythene has its disadvantages – hoop may lose its shape (will look like an oval or number 8). To avoid this: • Right after you purchased the hoop, cover it with the decorative tape and add one layer of “clear tape”. First, this will add those necessary grams (Hoop FIG standard = minimum of 300 grams). Secondly, this will the make hoop more durable. • Store your hoop horizontally. • Do not place it near the heating elements (heat radiators, stove, etc.). To ensure that your hoop is perfectly round you can place it on an even surfaced floor and the hoop will be perfectly smooth. Never store your hoop anywhere that someone else can access it when you are not there.

Page 18: Apparatus requirements for Sunshine Coast Rhythmic ... · Sunshine Coast Rhythmic Gymnastics Inc Apparatus requirements for Sunshine Coast Rhythmic Gymnastics Competitive Team All

Store your hoop in a hoop bag - this will help ensure the hoop stays as round as possible due to the constriction of the bag toward the Centre of the hoop, as well as protecting it somewhat from the elements. Do not allow your hoop to be subjected to high temperatures (left in the car on a hot day) Avoid moves that pull the hoop in two directions, which can cause warping and seam breakage. Avoid moves that put a great deal of pressure or weight on the hoop in some way that may cause it to break.

Ball Ball needs to be kept in a soft ball cover to prevent it from getting scratches. During the winter, we recommend keeping it in worm cover, because the “compression-expansion” of air inside the ball may damage the outer coating. Wash the ball in the warm water by using the mild mix of a detergent and a soft cloth. Completely dry it with the soft towel. The ball shouldn’t be too inflated, because it won’t be comfortable to hold it and it’ll jump too high. On the other hand, if the ball isn’t inflated enough it won’t jump at all. To inflate or deflate the ball in any moment it’s recommended to buy a small and easy to use ball pomp from Sasaki and CHACOTT. It is impossible to use a regular pomp for balls.(only sasaki or chacott pmp The ball picks up dirt and scratches easily. Use only on a gym floor or carpeted areas. Do NOT place your ball on top of news print. The ink will stick to the surface of the ball. To clean the ball, use mild detergent and lukewarm water. Rinse well and dry with soft clean cloth. Do not submerge in water. Do Not leave your ball fully pumped when you are flying, especially if you check it in with your luggage. The changes in pressure may cause leak or damages to your ball. Do not leave the ball in extreme heat/cold (e.g. overnight in a car when it is freezing or locked inside the car in direct sun during the summer months, right in front or on top of a heater or fireplace) One member of the team should always have a small ball pump to allow you to adjust your ball's air pressure after travel. Regular basketball pump works well at home. To inflate or deflate, always moisten both sides (i.e. the hole and the needle) before inserting the needle! Make sure that you are inserting the needle perpendicularly or you may damage the valve.

Page 19: Apparatus requirements for Sunshine Coast Rhythmic ... · Sunshine Coast Rhythmic Gymnastics Inc Apparatus requirements for Sunshine Coast Rhythmic Gymnastics Competitive Team All

If you want to keep your ball in good shape, do NOT play with it outdoors or on dirty surfaces. Rough surfaces will cut into the surface and damage its shine.

Page 20: Apparatus requirements for Sunshine Coast Rhythmic ... · Sunshine Coast Rhythmic Gymnastics Inc Apparatus requirements for Sunshine Coast Rhythmic Gymnastics Competitive Team All

Clubs Keep your clubs in the cover or at least, to avoid chipping, cover the tips of the clubs. Clubs are relative easy to look after. The first thing to watch for is warping. This occurs when clubs aren't stored properly and are placed under conditions of high temperature, pressure or weight. Dropping your Clubs on harsh surfaces can cause damage as well. The motto is to catch the Club and not drop it. Storage when not in use is ideal for care and safety.

Page 21: Apparatus requirements for Sunshine Coast Rhythmic ... · Sunshine Coast Rhythmic Gymnastics Inc Apparatus requirements for Sunshine Coast Rhythmic Gymnastics Competitive Team All

Ribbon A common problem with ribbon sticks is with the components that connect the ribbon to the stick. These pieces, usually metal, are small and lightweight and are easily broken. Excessive hooking and unhooking can weaken pieces of the metal due to metal fatigue. Avoid any moves which put a great deal of force on the connecting components so that they aren't pulled apart. Sticks can snap or break if there is forced bending of the stick. Always store your ribbon stick in a plastic or metal tube that protects it from bending. To maintain your ribbons' shape, always keep them in the winders. Ribbon could be either hand washed or washed in the machine on a “Gentle” cycle, in the warm water (up to 85° F). Just add a small portion of the detergent. No bleaching. This way the ribbon won’t lose its color. To keep your ribbon nice and fresh we suggest you iron your ribbon (very occasionally). Do not place the iron directly onto your ribbon. You must place a pillow slip/cover or towel over the top of your ribbon before ironing to protect it from direct heat and damaging your ribbon.

Stick Always keep your stick in the cover/case. Never carry it in your bag or backpack. If the swivel is broken – immediately replace it.
