Gevgelija - city of culture 2011 with over 100 cultural events
On 3 and 4 January at the Motel
Vardar, Apollonia foundation organized
beneficent Christmas children's work-
shop, on which participated children
from Gevgelija, children with special
needs from the daily center in Gev-
gelija, volunteers from the high school
club Glow from Gevgelija, students flut-
ists from Vaso Karajanov the music
school, group Hip-Hop, Rhythm plus,
the models from the Cultural Center
and other young talents from Gevgelija. After finishing the workshop Irena and
Stephanie from club Glow together with a social worker finished the charity action by
donating the items collected during the workshop. Here's what they said about that
experience: "There were 10 families with 30 kids which were chosen by the Social Ser-
vice as the poorest. Before New Year Apollonia Foundation delivered them food and
some household instruments. First we visited the two families in Gevgelija, then in
Negorci, Prdejci, Miletkovo, Miravci, Bogorodica, Gavoto, Bogdanci, Crnicani and Do-
jran. With volunteerism and with the help from Apollonia Foundation and the partici-
pants in the Christmas workshop, we contributed at least a little happiness and hope
to their faces. Our charity doesn't stop here, because we will organize some noble ac-
tions like this again.”

Gevgelija started recycling the plastic bottles, thanks to a grant from US
AID for the “Gevgelija Plastic Recycling program” made from the Piece
Corps volunteer Kristen Halseth and Apollonia Foundation
Realized activities within this project:
50 children who participate in the Nature Day project (lead by the Apol-
lonia Foundation) were educated about recycling plastic through interac-
tive games. The children spread their knowledge to the community by
distributing over 1,000 educational brochures to residences of Gevgelija.
2 clean-up events were held around the 4 new locations for plastic recy-
cling, and all of the plastic gathered was placed in the new recycling bins.
Residents of the nearby communities were invited to help, and as a result
several new children participated. Residents also brought their plastic to
kick-off the start of recycling in Gevgelija.
15 new containers for recycling plastic were delivered to the primary
schools Vlado Kantardziev and Krste Misirkov.
All 1,523 students who attend Vlado Kantardziev and Krste Misirkov were
educated about recycling plastic through interactive lesson plans taught
by their teachers, and youngest children learned from the brochure
“Why recycle” which was sponsored by OXO, as their contribution to the
Plastic Recycling program.
