Paunang Salita

Ang mga isla, kagubatan at mga kabundukan ng ating bansa ay tahanan ng iba' t-ibang pamayanang kultural na ang bawat isa ay may sarilmg wika at kaugalian. Ang ating kultura·ay mahalagang piraso ng magandang mosaik at iyan ang bans.ang Pilipinas.

Ang ating bansa ay mayroong utang na loob sa pamayanang kultural. Maraming pan~on na ang nagdaan .na ang kaugalian, wika at magandang layunin ay nakatulong sa ikauunlad ng ating , makabansang pagkamamamayan. Maipagmamalaki natin ang ating pamanang Filipino habang nagkakaroon tayo ng malawak na pang­~:~nawa sa ruga kulturang ito.

Sa mga kadahilanang ito, kinakailangang mapangalagaari ang mga wika at kinaugaliang pamayanang kultural ng Pilipino. Ang aklat na ito, na nasa wika ng pamayanang kultural ay may layuning tumulong sa pangangalaga nito . Ito ay ginawa para mapaghusay ang kakayahan sa pagbasa at pag-unawa, at para palawakin pa ang kaalaman sa pamamagitan ng pagbasa sa sariling wika. Ang paraang ito ng pag-aaral sa pamamagitan ng paggam_itng unang wika ay makapagpapaangat sa sariling wika at ang pagbabasa nito ay isang kapaki-pakinabang rta karanasan.

Dahil dito, lab is ang pasasalamat ng sambayanang Pilipino sa Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) dahil sa kanilang · pagsusumigasig na mapanatili at mapalaganap ang kultUrang Pilipino sa pamamagitan ng babasabing ito.'

PREFACE This pre-primer alphabet book, Magbasa

Kitam 1, has been prepared. to teach the recognition and reading of sounds and numbers.

The Palanan-Agta alphabet contains 6 vowels and 1 6·consonants as follows.

a, 6 , b, k, d, e, g, h, i, I, m, n, ng, o, p, r, s, t, u, w, y, -.

The hyphen (-) indicates glottal stop and is only written in the middle of a word before a . vowel which was preceded by a consonant as i(,l bal-ung or bul-o. All written vowel clusters are

· also pronounced w ith an intervening glottal stop, as in maes.

These letters closely represent their counterparts in the National language except for 6 (pepet) which is mid central. The borrowed letters of c,. f, j, q, v, and z which occur in names, will be taught in the main primer MAGBASA KITAM 3 . .

The purpose of this preprimer Magbasa Kitam and Magbilang 1Citam 1 is to teach students without reading background to hear the sound and to recognize the shape of the letters and numb.ers as a preparation for the pre-primer workbook Magbasa Kitam 2 .
