the Autumn Festival will be celebrated with story, song, games and food. The connectedness we feel for the seasons at these ages is as palpable as our human connections and the underlying messages in the stories live deeply. The story of Michael and the dragon has many meanings - it is not in slaying the dragon but in conquering it that we can live with it. In our lives we will be faced with many choices and stresses. If we can stand fully conscious and confront these challenges, seeing them for what they are, we are free to choose our paths. But if we deny the choice, turn from the stress towards an easier path, we have denied ourselves a chance to conquer and be free. Our students are on the path to becoming fully conscious adults who have the imagination and will to find their path in the world. In their innocent enjoyment of these festivals, we can be reminded of our own path and perhaps find the sword or spear we need to conquer our dragon.

Parent SpaceBeehive Cottage

Welcome to Beehive Cottage

A wonderful and diverse collection of ideas, feedback and suggestions were put forward in response to our call for a name for our school’s parent space. After much discussion, Beehive Cottage is the name that has emerged as most widely representing the supportive community intention and the physical cottage location ‘formerly known as’ Parent Space. It speaks of a warm and purposeful place with shared resources; where everyone is valued and many different skills and strengths contribute to a cohesive community.Several Indigenous names were proposed and carefully considered, however they were not considered applicable at this time, without deeper development of and engagement with our Reconciliation Action Plan. This is

something we are planning to progress in future. Many thanks to all who contributed to the naming process. The committee has also been formalising our key purpose and priorities, setting up the ‘behind the scenes’ procedures to guide decisions as well as continuing to improve the shop offering, and cafe space and open it three mornings a week. In the interests of transparency and inclusion, and for those interested in these workings, committee information is always available to view in the space.New volunteers and committee members are always very welcome - if you’d like to assist with current or new opening hours next term, regular baking or are interested in being part of the organising committee, please get in touch via [email protected] or drop in Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 9-11am

We are currently seeking new members for the Mount Barker Waldorf School Board. Two positions will take effect immediately and further places will open up in a few months, with longstanding Board Members completing their terms at the May AGM.Who are we looking for - and could it be you, or someone you know? A cross-section of relevant skills and experience on a Board is vital for good governance. So we are looking for people with a range of backgrounds, who have an interest or experience in governance and board work. An immediate need is for a person with financial expertise, preferably a CPA, to join the Board, and enquiries from anyone with these skills would be appreciated, given we are farewelling a committed Board member with professional experience in this area. We warmly invite submissions from those willing to put their experience and expertise to work, in the interests of supporting our

wonderful staff to provide …”an education that is alive, full of wonder and strives to awaken the inner life of the young person” and fosters “the student’s capacity to learn, to be open to life and to develop a sense of meaning and purpose”.Nominees will be interviewed by the three members of the Board Appointments Committee (BAC), each of whom is nominated/elected by either the community, the staff or the Board. The BAC is chaired by the Board Chair who does not vote in the appointment process. Please contact Mount Barker Waldorf School Business Manager, Mark Lucas (mlucas@ mtbarkerwaldorf.sa.edu.au) for a nomination package if you are interested in a Board position. The quote above is from https://www.mtbarkerwaldorf.sa.edu.au/, where you will find further information about the school.

We celebrate the children’s birthday with a special celebration at kindergarten. The morning is full, as preparations are made before we welcome the birthday child’s family to kindergarten. Birthday cards are made, birthday muffins prepared, the birthday table set and the family welcomed. We have a story together where we hear a little about the birthday child from each year of their life. This story helps to develop the memories for the birthday child that they will take into the future and a time that our friends can learn a little more about the birthday child. It is a wonderful time when the family (including any

combination of parents, grandparents and siblings) joins us. While the story and songs are a reverent time, the conversations around the lunch time table are lively. It is also a wonderful opportunity for siblings who were once kindy children themselves, to come back and visit. The birthday child returns home with their family after lunch with their birthday gifts and hopefully some leftover muffins. Now that we have already celebrated some birthdays at kindergarten, there is anticipation growing in some as they know they too will be celebrated soon.

Have you confirmed your 2018–19 income?

If you haven’t, your Child Care Subsidy will stop on 5 April 2021. This means you’ll need to pay full fees when you use child care.

Most parents have confirmed their income for the 2018–19 financial year. But if you haven’t, do it now. You need to confirm your family income if you got Child Care Subsidy any time in 2018–19.

Ask for a factsheet

You can confirm your income by lodging a tax return. Or, you can tell Centrelink if you don’t need to lodge one. Do this using your Centrelink online account through myGov or your Express Plus Centrelink mobile app.

In 2020 over 30 members of our staff came together to study a self-paced foundation course based on the principal ideas of Rudolf Steiner.

Now, in 2021, a parent group is forming to do the same.

This course is non-graded and has no deadlines. All it requires is some fortnightly reading and a little introspection.
