In an effort to make sure visitors are informed of the many amenities San Clemente and the surrounding areas have to offer, we have produced the 7th Annual Visitors Guide with information regarding San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano and Dana Point. Information contained in the Guide will be included in the Chamber Website.

Visitor Guide

The Chamber receives approximately 125 visitors a week, to our office, seeking information on San Clemente and the adjacent vicinities. In addition, we send out over 40 Visitors & Tourism information packets through the mail, per week. Marketing the three cities together, guests realize that San Clemente is truly a destination municipality. As a result, visitors recognize the many features the area has to offer.

The Guide includes information pertinent to visitors and will feature member businesses that are relevant to the tourism market. This is a free member benefit.

Website & iPad

One of the elements of the Chamber website is “Visit San Clemente.” These pages contain information that is currently published in our Chamber’s Visitors Guide. In addition, the Guide was formatted to be utilized on the IPad.

The City of San Clemente and Council Members-Mayor Jim Evert, Mayor Pro Tem Tim Brown, Lori Donchak, Jim Dahl and Bob Baker, along with the City Manager George Scarborough are to be commended for seeing the vision and making this projects possible. In addition, special thanks to Shelly & Don Kindred, Kindred Associates for design, artwork & photos.

Your Chamber works for you!

“Educator of the Year” went to a well deserving Kristen Dimperio

Ms. Dimperio holds a Master’s of Science Degree in Teaching and a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mathematics.

Kristen has taught math at San Clemente High School for 5 years, and is currently a Math Teacher and Teaching Assistant Principle.

Below are the areas Kristen excels in:

HUMAN RELATIONS:Ms. Dimperio has been an asset to SCHS since the day she arrived on our campus. First and foremost is her innate ability to develop rapport with students. She has taught a variety of levels of mathematics and regardless of her students’ aptitude for her subject she is able to connect on a personal and academic level with each of them. Her caring and friendly nature carries over to our staff as well. Ms. Dimperio is well respected by her peers. She is able to lead even some of the most veteran teachers because of her calm and understanding approach to new ideas. She quickly became a Teaching Assistant Principal because of her organizational skills and passion for students. When we decided to add a new program called Link Crew on our campus, Ms. Dimperio was the obvious choice. She took on this new role to support our freshman students through fostering leadership amongst our upper classmen. This program has been transformational.

PROBLEM SOLVING:Ms. Dimperio sees a problem and creates a solution. Her keen eye for effective programs creates a sense of continual improvement. As a teacher and administrator, she constantly creates new and innovative ways to connect students to our campus and support their learning. She volunteered to add days to our After-School Tutoring program by enlisting Link Crew students to support students. She houses a variety of

students in her classroom after schools and her along with our Link Crew members help students with homework and test prep.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH:As a teacher, Ms. Dimperio is constantly looking for ways to improve her craft. She actively collaborates with her mathematics team and attends district –side trainings to improve her craft. She has attended conferences and participated in a three-day training to learning how to build a Link Crew program on our campus. When we decided to pilot a new Algebra II course that forces on finance, KMs. Dimperio volunteered to take it on. She attends all of our Leadership Team meetings as well as our Administrative meetings.

CREATIVITY:One of the most influential new programs that we have added to our campus in the past four years has been our Link Crew Program. This year there are 93 Link Crew leaders and 3 officers that lead the organization and the leaders and 7 officers that lead the different committees. This year the leaders have offered various activities for the freshmen and some for all grade levels, including a Freshmen Tailgate before a football game, a Freshmen Halloween Movie Night, a Friendsgiving for transfer students and students who need someone to eat lunch with, and a Final Cram Session for all grade levels. We have started After School Tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-4 so that students have the option to get help every day after school. In addition to helping freshmen, we have started helping students that are new to SCHS by offering a Transfer Student Breakfast before school starts so the new students are familiar with the campus and no the leaders before starting on the first day.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:Ms. Dimperio’s leadership at SCHS has impacted and inspired many of our students. Her classroom is never void of students who seek her out for

assistance and support. She is funny and encouraging which creates a safe place for students to congregate. She literally affects every child on this campus as all students throughout their tenure here at SCHS are impacted by our Link Crew program. She is truly an asset to our school and community.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:Projectionist – Whether creating a department test or organizing an after-school event, no detail is left unchecked. When she is on your curriculum team you know that you are in good hands as she works tirelessly to create quality products.

Kristen Dimperio is an educator with whom her colleagues and students respect and admire, and we thank Kristen for her commitment to our children.

As the founders and driving force behind the Positive Vibe Warriors Foundation (PVW), The Gudauskas family spreads positivity around the world. PVW was founded with the mission of inspiring individuals to make a positive impact within their communities and is dedicated to connecting our youth to the ideals of ocean education and water safety with a passion for environmental preservation. Supported by their major sponsor Vans, PVW provides funds to educate local youth and global communities on the positive impact of ocean environments by hosting local surfing events, swim lessons, nature programs, lifeguard workshops and many more ocean-friendly activities.

Just a few examples how the Gudauskas family accomplishes this include:• Over the past eight years the Gudauskas’ have worked in partnership with Vans and the other sponsors to hold FREE Stoke-O-Rama surf days around the globe. Each event hosts 120 kids, between ages 5 to 12 and raises $10k for local community water safety programs. Each participant wins and leaves with prizes and a vibe that will last a lifetime. Some of the most memorable events have taken place in Hawaii, South Africa, the Caribbean, Huntington Beach and San Clemente, where it all began.

• In the past six years, the PVW Foundation has donated $60,000 to the Friends of San Clemente Beaches, Parks and Recreation and the San Clemente Lifeguard and Junior Guard Foundation to support our San Clemente Junior Lifeguard and lifeguard programs. These funds have been used for Junior Lifeguard scholarships, community ocean awareness events and equipment for our lifeguards and Junior Lifeguards for which funding was not available in the City budget.

• In 2015 and again in 2017, the G-Boys collected close to 1,000 used surfboards and personally delivered them to underprivileged surfers in Jamaica and South Africa.

• 2018 - Dane and Tanner Gudauskas recently returned from their latest mission to deliver surfboards to people who can’t afford quality boards. Over the summer, the brothers were able to raise more than 200 surfboards through their Positive Vibe Warrior Foundation (PVW). This donation to the Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago, resulted in what’s being heralded as the biggest donation of sporting equipment in the country’s history.

• On a daily basis, Pat, Dane and Tanner can be seen in San Clemente, helping our local groms learn and practice positivity, in and out of the water. The Gudauskas family does all this with humility. They seek only the satisfaction of knowing that they are making San Clemente and world a better place – by “keeping the vibe alive.” They are truly exemplary and a San Clemente treasure.

Many thanks to Gudauskas Family for being outstanding citizens of San Clemente
