Lent is a call not just to “give up something” but more important to “give something for the poor.” Wherever you live in the parish, there are poor families within walking distance of your home. When in need, they ring the rectory bell. They are, in effect, ringing your doorbell.
This month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to assist the needy in our parish community. God bless you!

Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics age 14 and older on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays in Lent.
Fasting is to be observed by all Catholics between 18 and 59 years of age on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. You may have only one full meal and two smaller meals as needed for strength. No solid food should be eaten between meals.
The Stations of the Cross are a devotion of the Catholic Church most commonly prayed during Lent. The origins of the devotion date back to just a few years after Christ’s death and resurrection. Tradition tells us that Mary and the apostles would frequently retrace the path of Christ’s passion. As Christianity spread and travel was not safe or affordable, monks began the Stations of the Cross as we practice it today. They had statues carved or stained glass windows made to depict the images of Christ’s journey. The tradition continued and grew. The Stations of the Cross are a way for us to make a pilgrimage and participate in the
suffering of Jesus. At St. Cecilia Church, we pray the Stations of the Cross
every Wednesday at 3:00pm
Friday night Stations will be held on:
March 2, March 9, March 16 and March 23
Please join us in this devotion.
The Saint Vincent de Paul Society has recently been aided with
some wonderful donations to help those in need. Special gratitude is sent to:
♦ All who baked and bought for our Valentine’s Day bake sale.
♦ The Knights of Columbus for the gift of money from the Christmas wreath sale.
♦ The Parish Life Commisson for sponsoring these events.
