Information will be included in the July newsletter. The Council reviewed a written report regarding Parish ED that was provided by Sara. NOTICE: From Building & Grounds Department:

Does anyone in the congregation need a riding mower? We have an old Craftsman riding mower in the shed that has not been used in a few years. With the zero turns that we have now, this mower is no longer used. The Church Council has decided to give members of the church an opportunity to purchase the mower by silent auction. It will be sold "AS IS". It ran fine when in use and will start, but will need a battery. Call me at 203-9380 to submit bids through Saturday, July 11th. If anyone would like to see it, I will be there to open the shed after the first service back in church (July 5th).

Attention: Groups Meeting at Zion If your group (women’s fellowship groups, 4H, etc) will be using the building as a meeting space, please call the Church Office to let us know. Three reasons: 1. - We want to make sure that the area your group uses will be disinfected before you arrive and after you leave. 2. We are asking that if you use the building that you wear a mask as well. Please let your membership know this! 3. We also want to know what your group’s plan is to keep your membership safe (hand sanitizer, health/temperature checks, etc) Thank you for understanding that our goal is to keep those who use our buildings here at Zion safe and healthy.

Did you know…??? …that Donnie in the Church Office has created a NEW form for our use when we purchase items on behalf of Zion??? We can choose to be reimbursed by check OR we can choose to have it considered a “donation in-kind” and have the amount credited to our offering statement. (All receipts are still required, of course!) …that she also created Building Maintenance Work Order Request form??? If you see something that needs our attention, you are invited to fill out the form and let us know! The forms can be found on a clipboard in the Church Office reception area. Please put the completed forms in Donnie’s box in the Copier/Mailbox Room. Thank you for helping us out! …that Drive Up Church is fun??? (Okay. It’s kind of hot, too!) But it is so much fun to SEE everyone!!! …AND that the neighbors have been asking what all the honking is about on Sunday mornings??? We told them that’s how we respond when the pastor says “Peace be with you.” HONK! HONK! HONK! …that between the clicks on our You Tube service and the folks coming to Drive-Up Church Zion has HIT the 150 for 150 mark in June??? …that Zion will continue to post worship services to You Tube even after we are back in the sanctuary for worship??? (See more about this in this Newsletter!) …that there was a tremendous response for recipes shared for the Anniversary Cookbook??? The Cookbook Committee has been working overtime on doing the prep work to make the cookbook. (And leaving the meetings hungry after reading such wonderful recipes!) Thank you!!

Dear Zionsville Faith Family - On behalf of your Church Council and the Church Office Staff, I am excited to welcome you back to worship in the sanctuary on Sunday, July 5! PLEASE know that many changes have been made in the way that we welcome you/enter the building as well as to the facilities so that we can follow the CDC guidelines and keep everyone who comes to Zion to worship safe! PLEASE also note that if you do not feel well or do not feel safe in large crowds, we want you to know that you can stay home. Services will continue to be recorded and posted to the church’s website and Facebook Page…probably by Sunday evening. If you do not use technology, we are happy to continue to send you copies of the sermon. Welcome Area *Doors at the Main Entrance to the church under the portico will be propped open…as will the doors to the sanctuary. *Temperature checks and hand sanitizer will be part of the Welcome to Worship process. If you want to hear that you are “normal,” we can only assure you of that where your temperature is concerned. If you are not feeling well, please stay at home that day and take care of yourself. (Worship at Zion can still be found on YouTube…later in the day.) *We are asking that you wear a face mask inside the building. We wear them to protect our neighbor. It is how we demonstrate that we love and care for one another. We do have a few extra face masks in case you forget yours. *We ask that you practice social distancing. Look for the blue tape on the floor to move us through the line easier. Otherwise, please keep at least one cow’s length between you and your neighbor. *All of the furniture in the foyer is in storage. There are no places to sit and visit before/after worship. HOWEVER, gathering outside for fellowship and conversation after worship is encouraged - as is safe social distancing during those visits. *We know that you are looking forward to seeing each other, but PLEASE refrain from shaking hands and hugging. Fist bumps and elbow bumps are highly encouraged. *We are going to attempt to use name tags for a couple of Sundays…only so that Pastor Karen can learn who we are under our masks! (You might even learn a couple of new names & "faces” as well!) In the Sanctuary *Ushers will be seating you in the order that you came - from the front of the church to the back of the church. *Families that ride to church together, sit together. *Sanctuary seating is roped and taped off. We will be seating every other pew. If you have a favorite pew, know that someone else may be giving it a “test drive” on Sundays. It’s okay. You can “test drive” someone else’s. Try a new spot and see what you have been missing! *Make sure that you read the signage between the pews. You are sure to laugh and maybe even remember/learn a bible story! *The nursery will be closed until further notice. Children will need to stay with their parents. Please have them create and pack their own Busy Bags from home.

Page 5: “SHARING THE GOOD NEWS” ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH · President: Brandon Keller (979) 661-4536 Vice President: Susan Henske 1 (979)221-8614 Secretary: Jane Little (936) 526-3978 Treasurer:

*Restrooms will be available and disinfected for Sunday morning use. Doors that can be propped open will be. Wash your hands as often as you need to. Mind the social distancing in there as well! *Seating capacity is limited to 100 at this time. We can accommodate overflow if we need to. The ushers are trained for it! During Worship *The hymnals and pew bibles have been removed from the sanctuary. There will be no printed bulletins to pass out. Everything you need for worship will be on the screen. If you would like, you may bring your own Bible. (Remember to take it home! It cannot be left behind to save your seat for next week!) *During the Passing the Peace, you will be invited to simply bow to one another or bump elbows. Of course, an audible “Peace be with you/And also with you.” is always welcome! *Offering will be collected in the baskets/large orange buckets in the back of church. Orange. Bright orange. *For the time being, we will not be serving Holy Communion in the sanctuary during worship. Look for that sacrament to return near the end of the month. Our goal is to get all of these changes down before we introduce another layer of safety procedures. *And…what you have ALL been waiting for…no singing required during worship! That’s right. We are giving your vocal chords a break. However, we would love to hear your toe-tapping and hand-clapping…with the beat, please. *After worship, we will be ushered out…from the BACK to the FRONT. Pastor Karen will be outside of the building and waiting to greet you there! To be honest with each of you, I am excited to be able to SEE you all in worship! It has been both emotionally and spiritually challenging to “lead” worship in front of an empty church. I know that if you watch church on YouTube you can see me, but I cannot see you or know that if what I am saying connects with where you are on your faith journey. So…I am looking forward to your presence in the sanctuary! I would like to again thank ALL of the people who have made it possible for us to continue to worship God both beyond the walls of the sanctuary as well as beyond a set time of worship. This experience has pushed us and pulled us into the age of technology. Whew! We will continue to “unpack” what that means for Zion in terms of both worship and ministry in the weeks and months to come.

See you soon!

Pastor Karen

Sunday, July 12 - Rock and Roll Sunday - Wear your poodle skirts, rolled up jeans, big hair, bangles, or (church appropriate) concert T-shirts! Sunday, July 19 - Polka Sunday - Let’s have a Tacky Polka Service…so come wearing mismatched clothing! (Side note: Pastor Lawrence Bade will be in the pulpit that day. Pastor Karen wants pictures!) (And, of course, on ALL Sundays…please wear your masks!)

Prayer Chain Updates Zion will have both a phone prayer chain as well as an email prayer chain! Theresa Rodenbeck has graciously volunteered to manage both of these. If you have a prayer concern, please call the Church Office and speak with Donnie. Donnie will let the pastor know so that she can follow up with you, put you on the “church prayer list” for Sunday mornings, AND notify Theresa of the prayer request. If you would like to be a member of the EMAIL Prayer Chain, please email Theresa Rodenbeck at [email protected] so that she can set up the email list. If you would like to be a member of the PHONE CALL Prayer Chain, please call Theresa Rodenbeck at 251-2447. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Phillippians 4:6-7)
