At Prakriti, we continue the experiments in

finding alternatives in building habitable spaces

to create vibrant communities living in unison

with nature. We are focussed on the needs of the

individual to feel psychologically and socially

secure as well as to engage with the larger

community of like-minded people with a shared

vision of eco-sustainable future.

are in the company of like-minded people and in

a space where your shared notions and ideas

At Prakriti Aawaas, you are invited to your own

eco-community where we strive for social,

economic and ecologic sustainability. Envisaged

as a compact community of 20 homes, the

eco-community members are united by shared

ecological, socio-economic and cultural values.

Many see the breakdown of traditional forms of

community, wasteful consumerist lifestyles, the

destruction of natural habitat, urban sprawl,

factory farming, and over-reliance on fossil fuels

as trends that must be changed to avert an

Like the bird’s nest or the rabbit’s burrow, the

living spaces in the layout are nestled within the

green landscape. The landscape is considered as

the primary element of design which blends to

form a seamless continuum. The living spaces

become inclusive elements that merge with the

landscape. What we have initiated is a

development model with least disturbance to

the land, yet exploiting the possibilities the site

offers.

The backyards and side-yards of all the living

units are envisaged as organic vegetable patches

and gardens which continue through the villa

courtyards, car porch roofs and pergolas that

connect to the central garden area making a

seamless green network. This becomes the

canvas in which the living units are sculpted. All

the common areas are artistically designed to

provide living zones for indigenous species of

plants, herbs and trees.

Eco featuresWe intend to use a combination of energy-

efficient and locally available materials in the

construction of our homes. This ensures the use

of minimal energy in their transportation and

manufacture.

MaterialsThe materials and finishes used are a blend of

the natural and eco-sensitive, with the practical,

and easy to maintain.

Burnt brick - It has excellent load bearing

properties which enables us to minimize the use

of steel and cement. Besides, it is a material that

breathes and helps keep homes cool as opposed

to concrete blocks.

Stone - Another locally available material with

exceptional insulating properties and aesthetic

beauty.

Wood - At Prakriti, wood is more than just an

aesthetic source and is seen as a sustainable

resource. A warm, intimate material, it replaces

high energy consuming steel and aluminium for

doors and windows. We believe in recycling old

timber, and the use of plantation timber instead

of forest timber.

Cavity walls - Double walls built with hollow

clay blocks, keep the interior spaces cooler and

protect them from moisture during the monsoon.

The cavity walls are designed to maintain a

continuous air flow through them.

SustainabilityIn the most common definition, sustainability is

referred to as “meeting the needs of the

present without compromising the ability of

future generations to meet their own needs.”

Sustainable development is that which raises

the quality of life and serves the goal of

achieving global equity in the distribution of

the earth’s resources whilst conserving its

natural capital and achieving significant and

sustained reductions in all forms of pollution.

The objectives of this approach are to “seek by

design a low-energy, passive building and

better occupant comfort.”

CraftTraditional crafts like carpentry, stonework and

masonry are slowly dying out as they cannot

adapt to newer material, technology and

requirement. But the value they impart to a

space cannot be overlooked. We make a

conscious effort to integrate these crafts and

their skilled craftspersons in the building

process. In all our work, we emphasize human

resource rather than material.

Rainwater Harvesting and Recharging

Rainwater is harvested and the ground water is

recharged through well spread out percolation

channels across Aawaas. This helps in the

aquifer recharges and supplements the water

table.

Waste Management

We propose to have an efficient garbage

disposal system that separates solid and non

biodegradable waste from the organic waste.

Organic waste can be collected and composted,

and the compost reused as manure. Some of the

non-biodegradable waste can be incinerated,

while metal and plastic wastes can be recycled.

The Process

At Prakriti, we believe that joy is in the process,

and in every community the positive energies

begin from the time the first stone is laid. We

take pride in the fact that every member of our

team takes ownership of building the community

and is respected for the skill and hard work they

contribute.

Our belief is that such communities generate a

strong sense of belonging while also enabling a

collective sense of security and responsibility for

nature. We foresee a future where many such

communities keep growing, each germinating a

new biorich eco-zone.

We believe saving the planet is a joint

responsibility. Thus our architectural departures

are totally environment driven. We are among

the few organizations in the country to faithfully

implement green technology in building design

and development.

Aawaas Infrastructure

Internal Roads: All roads with WBM and black top,

and selective areas in cobble stone paving to

increase rainwater percolation.

Compound Wall: The community will be

surrounded with a 5 feet compound wall.

Water Supply: De- centralized water supply from

wells with individual sump tanks and overhead

tanks for ease of maintenance.

Electricity: Underground cables with individual

meters for each house centrally placed, common

lighting for roads, common garden, club house,

pool etc. DG backup for common facilities.

Telephone and Internet: Underground cables for

telephone and broadband internet to each house.

Landscape: All common areas will be landscaped

with aesthetically planted trees and herbs. We give

special attention to developing green spaces to

improve air quality and to enhance the well-being

of the inhabitants.

Club House: Community club with games room,

gym, party space and swimming pool.

Foundation: Combination of random rubble

stone foundation, RCC column footing and grade

beam.

Super structure: Combination of load bearing

semi wire cut brick and exposed laterite brick

masonry for external walls.

Roof &slabs: Reinforced cement concrete slabs.

Exterior finishes - Walls: Combination of painted

and exposed terracotta brick cladding artistically

pointed.

Interior finishes: Walls rendered with exterior

grade putty, and painted with non VOC paints.

Internal doors: Seasoned first quality hardwood,

fully paneled, finished with polish/paint.

primer and semi-gloss paint.

-coated fittings and branded locks from

Godrej/Yale or equivalent wherever necessary.

Electrical: Three phase concealed wiring. All

wiring shall be of Finolex/Havells or equivalent

make concealed in 19/25mm dia, 2mm thick PVC

conduit pipes. Optional full/partial solar powered

electricity for individual villa. Modular switches,
