“PUSHED” OUT ON MISSION There is a delightful character in the original Dr. Dolittle Tales called the “Pushmi-Pullyu.” It is a beast with two identical halves, with a head at each end. No matter which direction the beast walks, one end is the “push me” and the other is the “pull you.” Today’s feast is a bit like that in the life of the church. In the book of the Acts of the Apostles, it is the ascension of Christ that calls for the Holy Spirit, which consequently sends or “pushes” the church out on its mission. This is the message that we hear from the angels today as they tell the friends of Jesus not to look up into the clouds, but to get busy. It is the message of Jesus himself in Matthew’s Gospel, as he sends them out to baptize. He also tells them, “I am with you always, until the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). And it is this message, confident in faith that Jesus has ascended to shouts of joy, that “pulls” us along to our final destiny. The life of the faithful disciple, sent into the world on mission, will one day know the same risen, ascended glory.

“EMPUJADOS” A LA MISIÓN Hay un personaje encantado en Las historias del Dr. Dolittle llamado “Pushmi-Pullyu” [equivalente a Mempujas-Tehalo]. Es una bestia con dos mitades idénticas, con una cabeza en cada extremo. Sea cual fuera la dirección en que camina la bestia, un extremo “empuja” y el otro “hala”. La fiesta de hoy refleja algo parecido en la vida de la Iglesia. En el libro de los Hechos de los Apóstoles, es la Ascensión de Cristo la que llama al Espíritu Santo, quien a su vez envía o “empuja” a la Iglesia a realizar su misión. Tal es el mensaje que hoy oímos decir a los ángeles cuando dicen a los amigos de Jesús que no se queden mirando hacia las nubes, sino que se pongan en acción. Es el mensaje del mismo Jesús en el Evangelio según Mateo, cuando los envía a bautizar: “yo estaré con ustedes todos los días, hasta el fin del mundo” (Mateo 28:20). Y es este mensaje, con fe llena de confianza en Jesús que ha ascendido con gritos de gozo, el que “nos empuja” hacia nuestro destino final. La vida del discí-pulo fiel, enviado al mundo con su misión, es la que un día conocerá la misma gloria resucitada y ascendida.

Jesus’ Ascension into heaven thus consti-tutes the end of the mission that the Son received from the Father and the beginning of the continuation of this mission on the part of the Church. From this moment, from the moment of the Ascension, in fact, Christ’s presence in the world is mediated by his disciples, by those who believe in Him and proclaim Him. This mission will last until the end of history and every day will have the assistance of the Risen Lord, who assures: «I am with you always, to the close of the age» (v. 20). His presence brings strength during persecution, comfort in tribulations, support in the difficult situations that the mission and the proclamation of the Gospel will encoun-ter. The Ascension reminds us of Jesus’ assistance and of his Spirit that gives confi-dence, gives certainty to our Christian witness in the world. He reveals to us the reason for the Church’s existence: the Church exists to proclaim the Gospel, for this alone! So too, the joy of the Church is proclaiming the Gospel. The Church is all of us baptized people. Today we are called to better understand that God has given us the great dignity and responsibility of proclaim-ing Him to the world, of making him accessi-ble to all mankind. This is our dignity; this is the greatest honor of each one of us, of all the baptized! On this Feast of the Ascension, as we turn our gaze toward heaven, where Christ has ascended and sits at the right hand of the Father, we strengthen our steps on earth so as to continue our journey — our mission of witnessing to and living the Gospel in every environment — with enthu-siasm and courage. However, we are well aware that this does not depend first and foremost on our strengths, on our organiza-tional abilities or human resources. Only with the light and strength of the Holy Spirit can we effectively fulfil our mission of lead-ing others to know and increasingly experi-ence Jesus’ tenderness. Let us ask the Virgin Mary to help us contemplate the heavenly benefits that the Lord promises us, and to become ever more credible witnesses to his Resurrection, to the true Life.

La Ascensión de Jesús al cielo constitu-ye por eso el final de la misión que el Hijo ha recibido del Padre y el inicio de la conti-nuación de tal misión por parte de la Iglesia. Desde este momento, desde el momento de la Ascensión, de hecho, la presencia de Cristo en el mundo es mediada por sus discípulos, por aquellos que creen en Él y lo anuncian. Esta misión durará hasta el final de la historia y gozará cada día de la asis-tencia del Señor resucitado, el cual asegura: «Y he aquí que yo estoy con vosotros todos los días hasta el fin del mundo» (v. 20). Y su presencia lleva fortaleza ante las persecu-ciones, consuelo en las tribulaciones, apoyo en las situaciones de dificultad que encuen-tran la misión y el anuncio del Evangelio. La Ascensión nos recuerda esta asistencia de Jesús y de su Espíritu que da confianza, da seguridad a nuestro testimonio cristiano en el mundo. Nos desvela por qué existe la Iglesia: la Iglesia existe para anunciar el Evangelio. ¡Solo para eso! Y también, la ale-gría de la Iglesia es anunciar el Evangelio. La Iglesia somos todos nosotros bautizados. Hoy somos invitados a comprender mejor que Dios nos ha dado la gran dignidad y la responsabilidad de anunciarlo al mundo, de hacerlo accesible a la humanidad. Esta es nuestra dignidad, este es el honor más grande para cada uno de nosotros, ¡de todos los bautizados! En esta fiesta de la Ascensión, mientras dirigimos la mirada al cielo, donde Cristo ha ascendido y está sentado a la derecha del Padre, reforcemos nuestros pasos en la tierra para proseguir con entusiasmo y valentía nuestro camino, nuestra misión de testimoniar y vivir el Evangelio en todo ambiente. Somos muy conscientes de que esta no depende en primer lugar de nues-tras fuerzas, de capacidades organizaciona-les o recursos humanos. Solamente con la luz y la fuerza del Espíritu Santo nosotros podemos cumplir eficazmente nuestra misión de hacer conocer y experimentar cada vez más a los otros el amor y la ternu-ra de Jesús. Pidamos a la Virgen María que nos ayude a contemplar los bienes celestes, que el Señor nos promete, y a convertirnos en testigos cada vez más creíbles de su Resurrección, de la verdadera Vida.

San José María Vianney decía, “Si estamos privados de la Comunión, debemos reemplazarla, lo más posible, con la comunión espiritual, la cual podremos efectuar en todo momento, y debemos de siempre sentir el deseo ardiente de recibir a Nuestro Señor.” El también decía, “La Comunión es para nuestra alma como soplar a un fuego que comienza a apagarse, pero que aun cuenta con brazas calientes, les soplamos, y vuelve el fuego.“ “Cuando no recibes la Comunión y no asistes a Misa, puedes hacer una comunión espiritual que resulta ser una práctica con muchos beneficios,” escribió Santa Teresa de Jesús, “el Señor admirará esto.”

Oración para el Acto de la Comunión Espiritual: Jesús mío, Yo creo que Tú estás presente en el Sagrado Sacramento. Te amo sobre todas las cosas, y deseo recibirte en mi alma. Como no puedo recibirte en este momento Sacramentalmente, al menos llega espiritualmente a mi corazón. Te acojo como si estuvieses ya ahí y me uno a Ti. No permitas que me separe de Ti. Amén.

St. Jean-Marie Vianney said, “If we are deprived of Sac-ramental Communion, let us replace it, as far as we can, by spiritual communion, which we can make every mo-ment; for we ought to have always a burning desire to receive the good God.” He continued, “Communion is to the soul like blowing a fire that is beginning to go out, but that has still plenty of hot embers; we blow, and the fire burns again.” “When you do not receive Communion and you do not attend Mass, you can make a spiritual communion, which is a most beneficial practice,” wrote St. Teresa of Jesus, “by it the love of God will be greatly impressed on you.”

Act of Spiritual Communion Prayer:

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

REOPENING - REAPERTURA

St. Michael the Archangel’s daily Masses resume on Tuesday, May 26th, 2020 following these guidelines:

1. Daily Mass will be in the main church not in the

chapel.

2. Each person attending Mass is required to wear a

face mask.

3. Front doors are the only entrance. These will be

propped open prior to Mass and after Communion.

4. Seating will only be in nave (center) portion of the

church, keeping social distance of sis feet apart

except those living in the same household.

5. There will be no sign of peace exchanged be-

tween attendees.

6. Communion is only to be received on the hand,

while in line you should maintain two pews distance

with the person in front of you.

Weekend Masses (Saturday and Sunday) remain suspended during this phase. Sunday Masses and other devotions will continue to be livestreamed. In addition to parishes, the Diocese continues to broadcast live Masses and recorded events on the Diocese of Dallas website and local television. During such Masses, there will be an act of spiritual communion. All Catholics of the Diocese of Dallas remain dispensed from the obligation to attend Mass “on Sundays and other holy days of Obligation” (canon 1247). The requirement to receive Communion during the Easter season (canon 920) may be fulfilled at another time during the year.

Las Misas diarias de San Miguel el Arcángel se reinstituyen a partir del martes, 26 de mayo de 2020 cumpliendo los siguientes lineamientos:

1. La Misa diaria será en la iglesia principal, no en la

capilla.

2. Se requiere que cada persona que asista a misa

use una mascarilla apropiada.

3. Las puertas frontales de la Iglesia son la única entrada. Éstas estarán abiertas antes de la Misa y después de la Comunión.

4. Únicamente las bancas en la parte central de la iglesia, serán usadas manteniendo la distancia social de 6 pies, excepto para aquellos que viven en la misma casa.

5. No habrá intercambio de saludos de paz entre los

asistentes.

6. La Comunión solo deberá recibirse en la mano,

mientras se encuentre en la fila debe mantener dos

bancas de distancia con la persona frente a usted.

Las Misas de fin de semana (sábado y domingo) permanecen suspendidas durante esta fase. Las Misas dominicales y otras devociones seguirán siendo transmiti-das en vivo.
