LEADERSHIP ROSTER FOR 2015 In November, 2014, the following people were nominated and elected to serve in ministry at North Chevy Chase Christian Church. In accepting that nomination, each of them made a commitment to the life and ministry of our Church, but they cannot fulfill that ministry without our support! We offer our thanks to ALL those who serve — elected, appointed, and volunteer — as together we seek o serve God’s beloved children in this church and in this community. In an excerpt from Bruce Epperly’s new book, Tending to the Holy, Bruce reminds us: Today's congregational leaders are called to be spirit persons, to use the language of Marcus Borg, who wear the mantle of the mystics, healers, prophets and sages. Claiming our role as spiritual guides is a matter of seeing God's presence and then encouraging its emergence within the congregation. In a time of spiritual challenge, limitations and frequent polarization, such spiritual vision is the result of a commitment to nurturing awareness of God's presence in ourselves and others. In the business and busyness of congregational life, it is easy to lose our way, focus on product rather than people, become overwhelmed by the tasks of ministry, and forget that we are always on holy ground [emphasis added] as we interact with God's beloved children. Blessings on the Leadership for 2015! ~ Cheryl

ART, SPIRITUALITY, CREATIVITY THURSDAY, JANUARY 15, 2015

Two sessions: 11:00-Noon, 7:30-8:30p.m.

Weir Lounge From the website: Touch Drawing is a simple yet profound process. Paper is placed over wet paint. The pressure of fingertips on the page forms im-ages on the underside. The hands are extensions of the soul, moving

in response to the sensations of the moment. Chan-nels of expression open, enabling feelings to flow. A series of drawings is created, each a step-p ing s tone deeper i n to the se l f . This act of creation unleashes vibrant healing forces that guide the psyche toward wholeness. Even an unconfident artist can experience the fulfillment of seeing their interior life come alive on paper. Touch Drawing is used by artists, therapists, social work-ers, health care practitioners, educators and intui-tives. Touch Drawing is a practice of creative, psy-chological and spiritual integration.

There will be a $10 fee for materials. (video link: http://touchdrawing.com/)

SCIENCE AND RELIGION —

To Your Health!

Studies show those who engage in faith traditions

“have lower rates of heart disease and cancer.” Could it be said that faith is good for the believer’s health? If so, who is to be credited for longevity, God or positive thinking mortals? Elder Dr. Jerry Rice and seminary intern, Vanya Mullinax propose a forum in February to address these questions and others regarding science and religion. Please contact Jerry or Vanya if you are interested.

COMING IN MARCH: NC4 Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

history month ~ After-Church Forums “The origins of the Christian Church lie in the inde-pendent church movements” synonymous with the American frontier spirit. March is slated for discovery (and rediscovery) of Disciples history and discipline. During the Harlow Hall coffee “hour” Vanya will lead an examination of our heritage and doctrine. New members, cradle disciples, and anyone curious about our faith a r e i n v i t e d t o participate. For details please contact Vanya or Pastor Cheryl.

Gift of Art & Love Received On Sunday, December 21, North Chevy Chase Christ ian Church received a gift from artist, Fata Mulli-nax, who expressed her love for the church and the care it has shown her and her husband Vanya (who is our Wesley Seminarian) since they have been with us. The framed piece entitled, “Mother and Child” was done in celebration of the birth of Fata’s first great-nephew, with herself as the model. She presents this to us with heartfelt love, and we re-ceive it with heartfelt love and gratitude. Thank you, Fata. It is hoped that prints of this piece will be available sometime after the first of the year for those who would like to purchase one.
