“Five-star reviews are flowing Arcangelo’s way. It’s easy to see why...the quality of this zestful ensemble just keeps soaring.” - Bachtrack
Inviting your support for our next 10 years
I can’t believe that it’s ten years already since Arcangelo began! So many of the collaborations are still so fresh: Guadagni and Bach with Iestyn Davies, enchanted forests and dramatic scenes with Anna Prohaska and Christiane
Karg, Mozart violin concertos with Vilde Frang, C.P.E. Bach cello concertos with Nicolas Altstaedt, Bach family Magnificats with choir and orchestra, three game-changing concerts as Wigmore Hall’s first-ever Baroque Ensemble in Residence (among many at this wonderful venue), two US tours with their unforgettable Carnegie Hall appearances, and of course those amazing BBC Proms concerts at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse and most recently at a sold-out Royal Albert Hall.
How have we done it? On stage, with the marvellous artistry of all the talented musicians we’ve been privileged to work with. Backstage, with the vision of good promoters and the dedicated planning and support of the Arcangelo office team. And all around us, with the generous financial support of individuals who have believed in us and wanted to help us make it happen. Without that support, we could never hire the staff to sell the projects, create the schedules, book the venues, book the flights and hotels, buy the music, buy the insurance, hire the keyboards: everything that gets us to 7.30pm on concert night or take one in the recording studio. I list all these links in the chain because although they are often described in business terms as core costs, everything at Arcangelo ultimately converts into music and music-making.
Over the last 18 months we have been laying foundations and building a plan for Arcangelo’s second decade. It’s very ambitious and wide-ranging, and includes wonderful new artistic projects, new ways of sharing our music, new partnerships, and new support for emerging talent. Thinking big has always been the Arcangelo way, and has never led us to anything but success: two Gramophone Awards, a BBC

Music Magazine Award, a Grammy Award nomination, countless broadcasts on the BBC, Classic FM and US, Asian and European media, and invitations to the world’s great venues and festivals: Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, Barbican Centre, Auditori Barcelona, the Salzburger Festspiele, the BBC Proms and the Vienna Konzerthaus to name just a few.
The Arcangelo Anniversary Fund is a key part of our strategy to support our plans and ambitions on a longer-term footing. All donations to the fund will go towards those vital core costs, with every gift ultimately translating into more outstanding concerts and recordings, more opportunities for the world’s best musicians to shine, and more opportunities for appreciation by new generations of audiences. Every supporter is individual, so we have added new ways to give online, clearer standing order and multi-year donation options, and new tiers to our popular Arcangelo Friends Scheme which recognises our supporters’ generosity and offers enjoyable benefits.
This brochure gives information about the fund, our plans for the next ten years and the support we need to realise them, and how you can invest in our ambition and share in our success. It is of course only a brochure, and Arcangelo has always been about real conversations and friendships. If you would like to find out more about our plans, or to discuss how you can become involved I would love to hear from you: please email me personally at [email protected]

What is the Arcangelo Anniversary Fund?
Why is Arcangelo asking for funding?
What are Arcangelo’s funding needs?
What are the benefits for supporters?
The Arcangelo Anniversary Fund is a permanent fund set up by the Trustees of Arcangelo to support our essential core costs: the staff, resources and services which enable and guarantee our artistic success. The fund also aims to support Arcangelo’s planned artistic and operational growth.
Arcangelo receives no public funding or subsidy and is reliant on a mixture of earned income, individual giving, and support from Trusts and Foundations to fund its ongoing activity and ambitions. Our core cost recovery currently depends overwhelmingly on individual giving.
Arcangelo’s core costs are lean: £60,000 in 2019/20. We are looking to efficiently grow our operational base and core costs to £75,000 per annum by 2022/23. This gives a total funding requirement over the four-year period 2019/23 of approximately £225,000.
All Arcangelo supporters receive membership and benefits of our Friends Scheme. They also become shareholders in our success, with every donation converting into Arcangelo’s outstanding performances at the world’s leading venues and festivals, and our invariably captivating recordings.
ABOUT THE FUND

STAFF
Arcangelo is run by a dedicated team of just 2.5 full time equivalent staff. We pitch projects, negotiate contracts, build and deliver programmes and schedules, look after our artists and supporters, and carry out Arcangelo’s corporate and charitable functions and duties.
LIBRARY
All projects require musical scores and parts. We purchase music so that we can access it easily again in the future, and to maintain original markings and instructions. Scores are also vital for advance project planning, helping us understand and manage the implications of artistic choices.
SERVICES
Like every business, Arcangelo pays for professional services. In our case the principal year-round needs are insurance, touring support, accountancy, software and web subscriptions and hosting, and secure storage space for our library and promotional materials.
SUPPORT
Arcangelo is a paying member of the Association of British Orchestras. This industry body offers standards, resources and training, including Brexit workshops. It also offers networking, shared knowledge, and regular meetings and an annual conference.
MARKETING
We produce a wide range of marketing and communications materials, and also pay for advertising opportunities in national and specialist media. These assets and activities are an essential component of our work to build relationships and reputation.
TEA!
As Napoleon almost said, “an orchestra plays on its stomach.” Joking apart, our musicians’ happiness is our priority. As well as tea (and biscuits) we provide accommodation to non-UK players, porterage for large instruments, and limited emergency travel expenses.
OUR CORECOSTS
All year round, and often months or years before the first note is played, Arcangelo projects are being planned and organised. Here’s what it takes.
