The College of Chiropractic Sports Sciences (Canada) or CCSS(C) evolved out of the ever growing need to coordinate and direct the involvement of the chiropractic profession with athletic and sport-minded communities

It exists now as the largest post graduate organization for chiropractic sports sciences in the world and equal player in Canadarsquos sports medicine system Furthermore it has become the key provider for political and inter-professional relationships for the Canadian Chiropractic Association with the various sport communities both in Canada and internationally

In 2010 the CCSS(C) after a lengthy and involved application process received its Royal status when Buckingham Palace confirmed that Her Majesty had granted the college permission to use the title Royal College of Chiropractic Sports Sciences (Canada) Since the reign of Queen Elizabeth II began in 1952 Her Majesty has granted only 3 royal prefixes to Canadian Medical Institutions making the RCCSS(C) one of the few organizations to earn the ldquoRoyalrdquo distinction

With a minimum of 1000 hours of field work including both combat and non-combat sports extensive research requirements and a graduate level academic focus on exercise physiology sports nutrition sports psychology advanced imaging research methodology acute injury management and other aspects of sports chiropractic the Sports Sciences Residency Program (SSRP) programs were designed to be the most extensive sports specialty training of any health care profession At the completion of the programs and their requirements (both courses and research) the Resident is eligible to sit for their Fellowship exam and upon passing they would receive the prestigious ldquoFellow of the College of Chiropractic Sports Sciencesrdquo (FRCCSS(C))

bull Develop a Sports Chiropractic Research Agenda ndash the first in the World for a Sports Chiropractic Organization

bull Organize and fund a Sports Chiropractic Research Chair at a Canadian University or Chiropractic College ndash the first in the World

bull Continue to place and support RCCSS(C) Fellows and Residents on the Core Health Team for the Major and Minor Games across the World including the Olympics World Championships Pan Am Games Commonwealth Gameshellip

bull Continue to work with the National Sports Organizations in Canada to have an RCCSS(C) Fellow to be an integral part of the Athletes health care team

bull Continue to collaborate both inter and intra professionally on Research and Education

bull Continue to fund ongoing Research Awards for RCCSS(C) Fellows and Residents to promote the advancement of evidence based practice in Sports Health Care
