there’s nothing more precious than a new life. help Nottingham hospitals charity give every newborn baby every chance.around 1,000 of the 10,000 babies born across the East midlands each year are cared for at the neonatal units at nottingham university Hospitals, including babies born at other hospitals requiring special medical or surgical care.

premature and sick newborn babies receive specially tailored care at the two units at the city Hospital and queen’s medical centre, where parents and families also receive the care and advice they need.

our tiny babies appeal is vital in helping to provide state-of-the-art equipment, carrying out research to improve care for tiny patients, and supporting parents and families who have premature or sick newborn babies at the unit, at what is a difficult and emotional time.

by donating to nottingham Hospitals charity, you can be sure that you’re helping to enhance care and facilities for tiny patients and their families from across the East midlands.

Claire’s story“isabella entered our world six and a half weeks early, weighing 5lb 14oz. it became clear just a few minutes after her birth that she was struggling to breathe so she was whisked away to the neonatal unit. she spent nearly three weeks in the unit, where she was ventilated and a machine did all the breathing for her. during this time we felt as though we were on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. we would have good days, when isabella seemed to do well, and then real down days when things didn’t go so well.

“throughout the whole time the consultants and all the staff were so supportive and patient, as well as understanding and reassuring at the endless questions we threw at them. they involved us in isabella’s care wherever possible. i will never forget the first time i was allowed to hold her - many people take this for granted but it was something i had to wait nearly a week for. needless to say, it was a dream come true.

“the experience of being on the neonatal unit was made much easier by the care and support of all those who work there. the work they do is priceless, and the support given by the tiny babies appeal makes all the difference to the care they are able to provide. unfortunately without this facility many babies wouldn’t be here today...we were one of the lucky ones. isabella has now grown into a very healthy seven year old and we have the neonatal unit to thank for that.”

one thousand young lives depend on the care the neonatal units provide for their start in life. and we’re depending on you to give them the best possible start.
