RAPID CRUSHING AND SCREENING CONTRACTORS PTY LTD (‘RAPID’) IS A PRIVATELY OWNED WESTERN AUSTRALIAN COMPANY AND COMMENCED OPERATIONS IN 1978 AS A PROVIDER OF QUALITY CRUSHING AND SCREENING SERVICES TO THE CIVIL CONTRACTING, CONSTRUCTION, MINING, AND RESOURCE INDUSTRIES, UNDER CONTRACT OR HIRE.

EQUIPPED FOR GROWTHRapid specialises in the crushing and screening of all types of mineral ores, including lump and fines hematite iron ore, gold, manganese, nickel, special class site preparation fill materials on major construction projects, as well as concrete and road aggregates, road base, rail ballast and armour rock. Rapid has created a wide range of high-production mobile and fixed crushing, screening and conveying plants ranging from mobile and modular plants to 600 tph, through to fixed plants to 1000 tph.

Modern office and workshop facilities ensure that Rapid can support growth in a timely and efficient manner, as operations continue to expand with specialised crushing and screening services supplied to sites operated by Woodside, Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton, Chevron, Moly Metals Australia Karara Iron Ore, Fortescue Metals Group and Hanson Construction Materials.

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPSEssential to Rapid’s success has been the back up and support offered from its own in-house fabrication company, Irvine Engineering (WA) Pty Ltd, which has been designing, fabricating and maintaining crushing and screening plants alongside Rapid SINCE 1978. Both companies have developed good relationships with crusher and screen component suppliers and other specialists for further technical support. This gives Rapid the advantage of being able to fabricate and build its own custom-designed, purpose built crushing and screening plants to particular client and site specifications.

Rapid does not rely on outsourced contractors or ‘off-the-shelf’ plants, thus avoiding potential loss of control over the quality of work and materials, or reliability of supply.

SAFETY AND RELIABILITYRapid is experienced in working in remote locations with limited access and limited communications. To this end, a culture has emerged to be self-sufficient on site, with a workforce that has the ability to ‘make do’ with the resources on hand and ensure that all trades personnel are present to attend to issues as they occur. Rapid carries significant inventories of parts and consumables on site with support infrastructure of fully equipped workshops, offices and crib rooms. Several backup crushing plants can be called upon in the event of a major breakdown.

Rapid maintains an excellent safety record and has developed practical and workable Health, Safety, Environmental and Employee Relations Policies, Plans and Procedures to support operating activities at the highest level. Safety Management Plans are developed for each specific project. This is all under the control of a full-time Health and Safety Manager and support team.

RAPID MAINTAINS A FLEET OF PURPOSE-BUILT MOBILE TRACK-MOUNTED CRUSHING CIRCUITS THAT ARE BEST SUITED TO SMALLER SIZE CRUSHING CAMPAIGNS OF LESS THAN 500,000 TONNE. THEY RANGE FROM SMALLER UNITS COMPRISING 42” X 30” SIZED JAWS, 54” ELJAY CONES AND 20’ X 6’ SCREENS. THE LARGEST MOBILE CIRCUIT WE OPERATE IS THE METSO LT125 50” X 38” TRACK JAW WITH THE HP300 TRACK CONE. THE SMALLER MODULES IN A 2 OR 3 STAGE CONFIGURATION WILL CRUSH UP TO 300 TONNES PER HOUR. THE LARGER MODULES WILL CRUSH UP TO 600 TONNE PER HOUR.

All track-mounted crushers and screens are self powered with inbuilt diesel engines and hydraulics, so they don’t rely on gen set or grid power. They are easily transported and commissioned with remote controls for ease of loading and unloading from low loaders and setting up in place. They are best suited in confined areas and in applications where the plant needs to be moved short distances during the crushing campaign.

MODULAR CRUSHING CIRCUITS ARE SUITED TO CAMPAIGNS IN EXCESS OF 500,000 TONNES AND WHERE THE PLANT DOES NOT REQUIRE RE-LOCATION DURING THE PROJECT TERM. THEY COMPRISE METSO C125 OR SVEDALA 1208 PRIMARY JAWS WITH EITHER CEDARAPID MVP 450 AND 550 OR METSO HP300 AND HP500 CONES AND ELJAY SCREENS 20 X 6 AND 20 X 8.

Rapid designs and fabricates all of the modules, attachments and conveyor systems that house the crushers and screens.

These modules in a 2 or 3 stage configuration will crush up to 800 tonnes per hour.

All module crushers and screens are electric powered by gen sets and switchboards. They require cranes to set in place which makes setting up more complex. They also require extensive wiring up and link up through the use of conveyor systems and stacking units. However, this extra set up cost can be more than offset over time by cost efficiencies – higher volume of tonnes crushed at a reduced operating cost per tonne. Being electric powered makes modular circuits more reliable than their track counterparts.

TFIXED CRUSHING CIRCUITS ARE BEST SUITED TO CAMPAIGN IN EXCESS OF ONE YEAR DURATION AND IN EXCESS OF 1,000,000 TONNES PER ANNUM. THE 1-3 MTPA CIRCUITS COMPRISE OF METSO C125 OR SVEDALA 1208 PRIMARY JAWS WITH EITHER CEDARAPID MVP 450 AND 550 OR METSO HP300 AND HP500 CONES AND ELJAY SCREENS. LARGER 3 – 5 MTPA CIRCUITS COMPRISE OF METSO C160 63” X 48” OR JAQUES 60” X 48” PRIMARY JAWS WITH MVP550 CONES AND EITHER TWO 20’ X 8’ SCREENS OR ONE LARGE SCHENK BANANA SCREEN.

Being electric powered makes the fixed circuits more reliable and easy to access for housekeeping and maintenance. Fixed Plants are of more heavy duty construction and purpose built for the specific application.

RAPID’S SAFETY MANAGEMENT PLAN (‘SMP’) HAS BEEN DEVELOPED TO ENABLE A CENTRAL AND EFFECTIVE STANDARD OF SAFETY MANAGEMENT TO BE APPLIED ACROSS ALL WORK SITES.

The SMP incorporates Specific Management Systems that are based upon proven principals of safety management and statutory duties, responsibilities and accountabilities defined in applicable OH&S Legislation.

The SMP will supplement and complement client and statutory OH&S requirements and be subjected to regular auditing from client and external authorities to ensure the SMP is accurate and complies with current OH&S standards.

The SMP is intended to provide management personnel and contractor management teams with clear guidelines and methodology for applying and managing the required standards of OH&S within their work sites, whilst working within client OH&S management systems.

Effective application of this SMP, in conjunction with client Occupational Safety and Health Standards, will enable Projects and contractors to:• Provide a safe place of work • Prompt reporting of Accidents, Incidents, Hazards,

Damage and Environmental issues• Reduce injury and harm to Project employees• Maximise productivity to our clients• Meeting statutory obligations• Set regular auditing and inspection programs.
