“Are you busy?” asked Lechuga one early evening as I approached the office after a full and predictably unpredictable day. I thought I finally would have time to write terribly overdue letters to our faithful child sponsors. However, Lechuga was sitting outside in Hank’s rocking chair. I smiled and quickly said, “Of course not. What should we do? Play a math game? Read together so you can correct my pronunciation?” After 2 hours of fractions and reading together I tried to regain focus on writing but confess my heart was so moved that I couldn’t concentrate. I learned that this 7th grader, who struggles with working memory, could not remember the months of the year. What would be his future? Daily we feel like we choose between the future of a boy and the future of Rancho Del Rey. Boys come to the office, the ‘nerve center’ of the Rancho, needing hugs, personal attention, help with math and homework, bandages, problems resolved, behavior interventions and help with toothaches. They break bones and need antibiotics, new shoes, and a snack because food means love. They need our prayers. Also, as the ministry of Rancho Del Rey, we need (and love) to “make new friends and keep the old”, communicate, seek new support here in Mexico and in the US, do the accounting, pay the bills, answer emails, write letters, make phone calls, update the website, take pictures, make videos, and organize our fantastic visiting teams. Most importantly, we need to pray a lot. But when a boy walks into the office we tend to drop everything because everything we do is for our boys. And this is where you, these boys’ extended family, have stepped in with your love, both providing for the future of Rancho Del Rey as a ministry and for the future of each of these precious children ~Susan In 2017 we asked for your help and you responded generously. “Are You Busy?”

Boys’ home near Monterrey, Mexico since 1956

nonprofit 501(c)(3)

•As Paul exclaimed that the poverty of the Macedonians welled up in generosity, many of you have given “as much as they were able, and even beyond [your] ability. . . [You] gave [your]selves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us.” (from I Cor. 8)

Mary (Jazmin) and Joseph (Oscar), new dorm parents, in the famous Rancho Del Rey Christmas Pageant
