July 28, 2019
Dear Parishioners,
In our Gospel reading this weekend, Jesus tells us something that
should make us sit up and take notice. His Disciples ask him to teach them to
pray and Jesus uses this occasion to help them understand the difference
between expectation and presumption. We read, “Lord, teach us to pray just
as John taught his disciples." He said to them, "When you pray, say:” and
then continues with what we call the “Lord’s Prayer.” Isn’t it amazing though
that we have the words of Jesus, coming from his mouth that teach us how to
pray? Praying in this way, asking God to help us and to teach us really is
praying with expectation, "And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and
you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who
asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the
door will be opened.” Expectation in this case is a very good thing as it helps
to drive us to ask God for his help.
Presuming God will help us is very different from trusting that God
will help us. When we trust that God will hear and answer our prayers, we
leave the control in the hands of God who knows our needs even before we speak them. When we presume that God
will hear and answer our prayer, we tend to box God in and force Him (at least in our hearts and minds) to do what we
think is best and to react in the way we want, and that is not always going to be the best way.
Why don’t we do this, allow God to be God and pray to God, talk with God, ask God to hear our prayers and
then leave it in God’s hands. Ask yourself this question, has God really ever let you down before? Now I am not talking
about not having all of your expectations met or things not going according to your plans, I mean really, have you ever
been let down by God? I am hoping the answer is, no not really. If that is true, why would He start now? The answer to
that question is, He wouldn’t.
“Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Let’s take the
Lord at his word, I am sure we will not be disappointed.
Peace ,
Fr. Steve Leva

What Does it Mean to be a
Regular Adoration Adorer? Perhaps you are thinking about
committing to an hour of Adoration
but are worried about the
commitment. Adoration is your time
to talk to the Lord. Just you and
Jesus. If something comes up that
makes it impossible for you to attend
during your hour, consider……
If two people scheduled for each
hour of the week then when something comes up, the other
person is there to sit with Jesus.
If you can’t make it, you can ask a friend or family member
to go in your place (think of it as evangelization).
If all else fails, we do have a Monstrance cover for when the
chapel is empty.
The commitment is not one that must last forever. Life
happens. If your time no longer works, just let the office
know.
Once you do become a regular adoration adorer, you will find it
hard not to carve that time out in your week. The sense of peace,
love, and renewal after one hour with Lord is one you won’t want
to miss. For more information or to sign up for a weekly hour,
contact Peg Cassidy at [email protected]
The Loaves & Fishes Project
With the Loaves and Fishes Project, giving is
as easy as 1-2-3: 1. Grab a can of soup, a box
of pasta, or any non-perishable item from your cupboard as you dash out the door to Mass.
2. Drop off your donation in the “Loaves and Fishes” closet on your right as you come into church.
3. Enter the church with the warm feeling of a nourished soul!
The Loaves and Fishes team delivers the items to the Lord’s
Pantry in Downingtown. As a church family, we can make
a much appreciated contribution and a significant impact to
a charity that helps over 700 families every week. Please
contact Nancy Farrington at [email protected] or
610-620-3619 for more info.

Thank You!
Thank you to all the families who participated in
the parish directory. We can’t wait to share the new
book with you soon!
Thank you also to all the many volunteers who
generously gave their time to help with photo sign-
ups after Masses and assisted with checking
families in as they arrived for photos. The directory
would not have been possible without your help!

Attention Men One of the biggest issues that destroys our own happiness, and
rips apart marriages and families is pornography. It’s estimated
that 60-70% of men are engaging porn with some
frequency. If this is an issue you or a loved one deals with, we
have a powerful solution for you. It’s called STRIVE and it’s an
ANONYMOUS 21-day challenge that men all around the world
are taking to break free from pornography. The normal cost is
$49, but STRIVE is being provided for FREE for a limited time
for all the men at our parish. All you need to do is sign-up at
strive21.com and you can begin right away.
