Off the Top of My Head…

Have you heard of “CommUNITY Care Day”? It is an

opportunity for our parishes to provide new winter coats,

warm gear, uniforms, shoes, socks, underwear, and

groceries to children/families from all over Madison

County.

CommUNITY Care Day is a joint venture of service

involving Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Carmel,

Indiana, and the Anderson-Alexandria Pastorate. To be

accurate, this “joint venture” is not a 50-50 proposition.

It’s more like 95-5, with Our Lady of Mt. Carmel doing

95% of the planning, organizing, donation, and work!

I am not saying that to shame, but to invite. I am in total

agreement with Fr. Richard Doerr, Pastor of Our Lady of

Mt. Carmel, that this is a great opportunity for the Catholic

Church, through our three parishes, to make its presence

known and to show the face of Christ to people in Madison

County.

Please understand that this is NOT simply Our Lady of Mt.

Carmel helping the three parishes in Anderson and

Alexandria. This is the four parishes teaming up to help

people within and outside of our parishes, from anywhere

in the county. This is also NOT the wealthy parishioners of

Hamilton County coming to the rescue of parishioners and

residents of Madison County.

THIS is why we need volunteers from our three parishes –

not just because there is so much work to do, but because

this is OUR project, not THEIR project.

This event takes place on January 15 at St. Mary’s in

Anderson, and volunteers are needed both that day and the

day before, Friday the 14th, because there is a massive

amount of setup needed!

you will see the title, “MERCIFUL HELP CENTER

COMMUNITY CARES DAY.” (Merciful Help Center is a

ministry of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parish.)

BE SURE TO SIGN UP ONLY TO SERVE AT ST.

MARY’S, ANDERSON, UNLESS YOU WANT TO

DRIVE TO OUR LADY OF MT. CARMEL TO HELP!

We will need truck unloaders, shoe fitters, Spanish-

English interpreters, school uniform helpers, car loaders,

cleanup helpers, and more. I will be signing up and I hope

you will too.

Mensaje del Padre Tom…

¿Ha escuchado hablar del “Día del Cuidado Comunitario”? Es

una oportunidad para que nuestras parroquias proporcionen

nuevos abrigos de invierno, ropa caliente, uniformes, zapatos,

calcetines, ropa interior y comestibles a niños / familias de

todo el condado de Madison.

El Día del Cuidado Comunitario es un conjunto de servicios

que involucra a la Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Mt

Carmelo (Our Lady of Mt. Carmel) de Carmel, Indiana, y la

Pastora Anderson-Alexandria. Para ser exactos, esta "empresa

conjunta" no es una propuesta de 50-50. Es más como 95-5,

¡con Nuestra Señora del Monte Carmelo haciendo el 95% de

la planificación, organización, donación y trabajo!

2022 RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS

Elderly religious need

your help. Thousands of

senior sisters, brothers,

and religious order priests

served for years in

Catholic schools, hospitals, and parishes—often for little

to no pay. Now, many religious communities do not

have enough retirement savings and struggle to provide

for aging members. This weekend through our 2nd

collection to the Retirement Fund for Religious, your

gift will help provide medications, nursing care, and

more. A donor to the Retirement Fund for Religious

recently wrote, “I still remember the lessons the sisters

gave us and how they instilled in us the love of our

faith.” Show your thanks for the prayerful service of

elderly Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order

2022 FONDO PARA LA JUBILACIÓN DE RELIGIOSOS

Our “People For the Steeple” appeal concluded on

Dec.31st. Through your generosity and sacrifice we raised

FOOD PANTRY

Our food pantry is in need of crackers,

peanut butter, boxes of cereal, canned

peas, green beans and tomatoes. We

continue to see an increase of people

needing food. If you are able to donate,

please bring these items to the Holy

Cross school annex on Mondays, Thursdays or Fridays

between 8am-4pm. If you or someone you know is in

need, please call the parish office or come by on Mondays,

Thursdays or Fridays. The food pantry is open to

everyone! Thank you for your help!

Starting with your February envelope packet, you will see

a new envelope named “Support Our School” which

replaces the “Help a Child Fund” envelope. We believe

this better identifies the support you are providing to St.

Mary School and allows you to earmark your donation to

either Tuition Assistance, Technology, Curriculum or

Athletic Equipment. If you have any questions, please call

the parish office.
