Cognitive Therapy

According to psychologists, all of the theories follow one or more of 3 principles:

1. Discomformation: Clients may be confronted with evidence that directly contradicts their existing beliefs

2. Reconceptulization: Clients work towards alternative belief system to explain their experiences or current observations.

3. Insight: Clients work toward understanding and deriving new or revised beliefs.

Rational-Emotional Therapy (RET)

ALBERT ELLIS developed a form of therapy called Rational-Emotional Therapy.

In Psychology Today, they refer him as the greatest psychologist living.

He believed people behaved in rational ways.

The goal of RET is to correct false and self-defeating beliefs

Ellis taught that behaviors were like ABC’s:(A)-ACTIVATING EVENT

Beck’s Cognitive Therapy

AARON BECK’s main focus was on the illogical thought process.

He used persuasion to change beliefsThe goal was to change the way people think.Sometimes Beck would have clients test their
