ANTISEMITISM - speech in the European Parliament After the Holocaust experience, what is the background of modern anti-semitism, islamophobia ? Very often it is detached from the reality. There is only small group of real Jewish community now in Poland. But, there are many examples of using negative attitudes oriented at people, defined as hostile. The symbol of those negative emotions is related to the expression "Jews". But, in many places in Europe - the real Jews are attacked. What is wrong with our culture, that "Jews" and in the near future "Muslims" can be the stereotype of the personalized evil? The internet disseminates the hate speech of all kinds. The texted, tweeted words are very often out of responsibility and having identity... What we need to do? Firstly, we should react. The most dangerous is - social and political neutrality. Secondly - we should be active witnesses of becoming accidents and talk about them publicly. Thirdly - with respect to the freedom of expression, we should act using legal tools. Fourthly - we need some campaigns, as "No Hate Speech". Fifthly - we need educational programs building the values as: freedom, respect, openness vis a vis the imposed spiral of violence. The danger is: when the words turn into the hate speech, they begin to burn - because of somebody's ideas, religions, race, and ethnic origin or only because of personal background. We have to stop it! If not, let me use the metaphor: those hate words will burn people..... As it was in our history... Michal Boni, MEP, Polish delegation - EPP 11th, March, 2015
