RULES AND REGULATIONSWithin these guidelines (Rules 1-6 on the right), students should be as

All participants of the competition are to adhere to this set of rules and regulations.

Eligibility

- This competition is open to the following categories of students:

Primary Category Students aged between 10 and 12 yrs old

Secondary Category Students aged between 13 and 14 yrs old

- Students participating in the Primary Category (10-12 years old) can only submit one short story while students participating in the Secondary Category (13-14 years old) can submit an essay or a poem or both.

- There is no limit to the number of entries by each school/institution.

Requirements

Primary Category (For students aged 10-12 years old)

You are invited to write one of the following essays with not more than 500 words.

A short story on the consequences of drug abuse beginning with the following phrase:

“I thought it would not happen to me …”

A short story on glue sniffing with the help of the following picture.

A short story that includes all of the following words:

friends arrested destroy drug rehabilitation centre

family future glue-sniffing heartbroken

Secondary Category - Essay Writing (For students aged 13 - 14 years old)

You are invited to write one of the following essays with not more than 800 words.

An essay on drug abuse/glue sniffing with the theme: Temptations

An essay beginning with one of the following phrases –

a) “The consequences of drug abuse/glue-sniffing were far more than I/he/she had thought…”

b) “If only life could rewind, I/he/she would not have…”

Secondary Category - Poetry Writing (For students aged 13 - 14 years old)

You are invited to write a poem about glue-sniffing/drug abuse with one or more of the following themes:

a) Lies

b) Ruin

c) Loss

d) Regret

e) Friendship / Kinship

Judging Criteria

Engagement of Drug Awareness Issue – 40%

Creativity/Originality – 30%

Diction/Expression – 30%

Additional Information

- Students are encouraged to submit: Drawings or sketches to complement their essay/poem. Titles to their work.

Submission of Entries

- Each entry must be accompanied by a completed entry form, attached below.

- Participants should preferably submit their entries type-written with the word count

indicated at the end of the entries.

- Bulk entries from schools can be compiled in a CD and submitted by post or hand to the

Closing Date - The closing date for the submission of entries is Friday, 15 April 2011, 6.00pm.

Results - Entries will be judged by a panel of judges appointed by the Organisers.- Judges’ decisions are final and no correspondences will be entertained.- All prize winners will be notified by email.- The Organisers reserves the right to change, amend or withdraw any of the guidelines

stipulated without prior notice.- The Organisers reserves the right to publicise and/or broadcast the winners’ names,

INHALANTS

PENALTIES

Possession or Consumption

Heroin, ‘Ice’, ‘Ecstasy’, Ketamine, Lysergide (LSD), Cocaine, Cannabis, ‘Erimin-5’, Buprenorphine

Maximum 10 years of imprisonment or S$20,000 fine OR BOTH

NOTE: For consumption of Heroin, ‘Ice’, ‘Ecstasy’, Ketamine, Cocaine, ‘Erimin-5’ and Buprenorphine

DRC treatment for first and second time abusers, Long Term imprisonment for third and subsequent time abusers

Trafficking (selling, giving, administering, transporting, sending, delivering, distributing or offering to do any of these)

‘Erimin-5’

Maximum 10 years of imprisonment and 5 strokes of the cane

‘Ecstasy’, Ketamine, Lysergide (LSD), Buprenorphine

Maximum 20 years of imprisonment and 15 strokes of the cane
