Dental Assistant Program *
Dental Assisting 1 $ 250
Oral health and nutrition, dental charting, general anatomy and physiology, mouth disease, teeth functions , infection, ortho-dontics, periodontics, lab, x-ray history and precautions, safety, ethics and office management (Prereq: Adequate reading skills).

EMT—Basic $ 500
The EMT Course prepares students for the National Registry of
Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Exam . Offered n co-
ordination with AVROP EMT accredited Program.
The course teaches both didactic and hands on instruction in the knowledge and skills necessary to become a Certified EMT-Basic. Subjects include CPR, terminology, anatomy, life support, patient assessment, communicable diseases, and emergencies. EMT's may work on ambulances, in hospitals, for the fire depart-ments, law enforcement agencies, and in the military. EMT's provide treatment and transport to ill or injured patients. HS/GED required for certification. Criminal Background will be checked. Uniform is required: Dark navy blue EMS or uniform pants ON-LY, a white polo shirt, and a solid black belt .
Pharmacy Technician Program
Introduction to procedures, operations, drugs, medications,
dosage forms/strengths, inventory control and assisting the
pharmacist. Externship opportunities available. This is a full-
year program from August through May.
Interested new applicants should visit or call the school to be
placed on the interest list. Students must attend an information
night in July 2017 and complete the application/interview pro-
cess to be approved for the program.
Recommended prerequisites: Adequate math skills & Medical
Terminology. (Lab Coat Required)
This program meets the requirements for CA state certification
(HSD or equivalency is required for state certification).

Registration takes place at Lancaster main office at above address. Registration starts on
Thursday, Dec.1, 2016 and continues on a first-come, first-served basis during regular office hours until classes are full or the second class meeting.
Students can register in Palmdale at SAVAS (1156 East Ave S) during open office hours if the class meets in Palmdale (except EMT).
Pharmacy Technician program: Students have to attend a mandatory information night TBD.
Payment is due at time of registra-tion (Cash, Credit Cards: VISA/MC/DISC—no personal checks).
Classes with insufficient enrollment will be cancelled and refunds will be issued in the same manner as paid.
Certificates are awarded upon suc-cessful completion of each course.
All classes meet in Lancaster unless stated otherwise. Books are available for purchase at the main office or can be purchased online.

Introduction to medical terminology using words, prefixes, suffixes,
combining forms, abbreviations and pronunciation. Anatomy in-
cludes body systems and structures. Recommended for all medical
classes.

Instruction and hands-on practice to acquire skills to assist physi-

to prepare students for the Medical Assistant Certification Exam.

Medical Assistant: Certification Exam
The computer-based state certification exam is proctored by the
Adult School through PearsonVue at least twice a year . Eligible
students must have recent work experience or recent formal
training in an approved MA program.
Applications and fees are submitted to CCBMA at least two
weeks before the scheduled testing date. Upon approval, stu-
dents can register with PearsonVue to take the test at AVAS.
Fee: $185 (Basic & two specialties) $145 (Basic & one specialty)
Instruction and hands-on practice in insurance coverage,
claims, collections; computerized training in charges, pay-
ments, adjustments and deposits. Extensive ICD-10 and CPT
coding for overall billing practices. Record
keeping and medical office operations.

Electronic Medical Records
An electronic medical record is the computerized version of
the traditional chart. Electronic versions allow medical pro-
fessionals to zoom in on the precise information they need
to provide the best possible care to their patients. This
course will introduce students to the medical record for-
mats, numbering and filing systems, storage and retrieval
systems as well as legal requirements for maintain medical
records.

student to work as an entry-
level Patient Care Technician
in a clinic, hospital, nursing
home, or long-term care
facility. Students will learn to
check vital signs, administer
CPR and First Aid, assist in
medical examinations, per-
form electrocardiograms
(EKGs), perform basic labora-
tory procedures and phle-
botomy, as well as learn to
provide basic patient care
including bathing, feeding, toileting, and ambulating pa-
tients. Upon successful completion of the course, the stu-
dent will also be eligible to take the National Health-career
Association exam to become a Certified Patient Care Techni-

Introduction to basic computer use, including word processing,
the Internet, e-mail, basic maintenance and troubleshooting for
Windows-based computers.

Computer Repair Technician (A+) $50
Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain PCs, Windows OS, and
SOHO networks. Utilize troubleshooting and tools to resolve PC,
OS, and network issues and implement security practices.

Network Technician - 1 $50
Students will be introduced to networking fundamentals, such as
WAN technologies, basic wireless concepts, and network hard-
ware. Learn to design and build small office networks, using an
understanding of network hardware, IP addressing, and soft-
ware. (Dates TBD)

Fitness Training
Personal Fitness Training - 2 $ 50
Program prepares students to pass the NASM (National Acade-my of Sports Medicine) certification preferred by major sports, health, and fitness clubs.
