Yes, we have the popular images of the dove or even of the spirit. These things are so immaterial and impersonal though. Ask yourself, what role does the Holy Spirit play in my life? It’s a hard question to really explain and concretize. We’re used to thinking about the work of the Father and the work of the Son. But the work of the Holy Spirit remains obscure to many of us. The words of Jesus can help to remind us of what the Holy Spirit is. In the gospel of John, Jesus says to his disciples, “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of Truth.” (John 14:16-17) The word that jumps out right now is “another Advocate.” Because we have had an advocate in Jesus. And before he leaves his disciples, he promises another one. Someone else who is going to be with us. That’s what the Holy Spirit is. Jesus sends us his Spirit so that we can continue his mission. Don’t think that Jesus left and now we are alone and there is nothing we can do about it. On the contrary, now that Jesus is gone, the Holy Spirit is with us. He allows us to continue the work of Jesus every day. We receive this gift through our baptism. And so, by nature of being part of God’s people, we are all called to work for the mission of the Church side by side with the Holy Spirit who is our advocate in the face of the world today.

The Holy Spirit usually gets the short end of the stick in the mentality of Christians.

This is the Spirit of Truth.” (John 14:16-17) The word that jumps

out right now is “another Advocate.” Because we have had an advocate in Jesus.

FROM THE DESK OF THE PARISH PRIESTFr. Reu Jose C. Galoy, OFM

Dear Co-pilgrims:

Peace and well-being!

Come June 13, 2017, our parish community will again joyfully celebrate the Feast of St. Anthony. We likewise will humbly give thanks to our gracious God for gifting our Parish with a patron saint of his stature. Becoming like St. Anthony, a servant and steward of God’s manifold gifts is a daily process of kenosis through which the Gospel of Christ resounds – the eloquent St. Anthony is shown in how he lived his life and his love for God. His humility unlocked the wisdom of Jesus in the Gospels.

This occasion another opportunity, a grace-filled moment for us to examine of parish-community life; pastoral priorities and activities; ministerial and relational dynamics, if we have become a reflection of our collective identity – a Gospel witnessing community.

Our Baptism is the foundation of our collective identity. While we may have different forms of vocational response (married life, single blessedness, religious or ordained), we are essentially equal in dignity and as redeemed sons and daughters of God and commissioned to proclaim the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Christian praxis we are called to respect and recognize the giftedness of others. To become catalyst of cooperation and collaboration; ambassadors of forgiveness and reconciliation; embodiment of humility and minority; and agents of joy, hope and love.

Our various ministerial functions in the context of our collective identity is only means to express our active and direct participation in God’s mission: to nurture our gifts in the service of God’s people, allow our ministry to transform us become credible bearers of the Gospel and form a community of equals in the midst of diversity.

St. Anthony made it in his life and ministry. He will certainly help us to do same as we have one Gospel to follow and inspire us in our calling. He will join us in our pilgrimage to God while we strive to make the Gospel our lifestyle.

Your co-pilgrim,

Fr. Reu Jose C. Galoy, OFM

Obsessed with the number of “likes”? Millennials are known to be obsessed with the number of “likes” in social media. Everyone of us, unaware, may also be looking for the amount of “likes” or compliments from people. What image are we projecting?

Very often, the world measures us for what we “have” . “I am what I have” - my money, my body, my position; and this can be disturbing. What will happen to those who are materially poor or “physically less attractive”? Will they receive any “likes” from people?

The world measures us for what we “can do.” We are identified for our intellectual, artistic, or athletic skills. It is good to develop our potentials and to excel in skills; for in the process, we gain self-knowledge and self-confidence. Yet, we are not to be judged only for our talents and aptitudes. Otherwise, what will happen to those with defects and ineptitude, or those who have lost their skills through sickness, accident, or old age?

The world also judges us for our spiritual achievements. We are identified for our good deeds, such as

prayers, apostolate, service for others, and acquiring virtues. These good deeds are certainly laudable; except the danger of pride when we think that all our good works are ours alone, and we forget that everything good that we do comes from God. That is why some religious who dedicate themselves to a worthy cause experience a crisis when they get sick or when a superior stops them from taking part in it.

Everyone of us is unique in value and dignity, regardless of our material wealth, talents, or spiritual achievements. We are more than what we “have” or “can do.” We are more than all the good deeds that we can do. We are children of God, Who made us in His image and likeness. And whether we are good or not, He always loves us.

This does not mean, however, that there is no difference whether we do good or evil. When we realize and appreciate that God loves us unconditionally, that He loves us because He is Mercy and He is our Father, then we become more in love with Him. We do good solely because we want to please Him; not because we want to create an image, to earn merits, or to prove ourselves. Our ultimate motive is God. It does not

matter if we do not receive any “likes” from the world; it does not matter what people think of us anymore.

It takes huge effort put in by numerous people to organize our Parish Fiesta 2017. The agenda run several pages to uphold a wonderful tradition that warms the heart and hopefully brings many blessings in many forms. Picture each volunteer eager to apply what he or she knows to honor San Antonio de Padua, not forgetting that in him, we remember the Child Jesus. The affection that flows generously is manifested in the care for the impoverished, the alienated, the needy and the homeless.

It is clearly beyond normal expectations to see the work being undertaken by so many that can only be described as inspiring, even valiant and definitely good, very good:

Evangelization - members of the Contemplative, Social Services, Family and Life ministries will share the virtues of St. Anthony during the Novena Masses, through their personal experiences, and in their own words, and how these have reverberated in their lives;

The Catholic Women’s League will offer a multitude of free services to all parishioners and the community that will include the rites of Baptism, Confirmation, Matrimony, and medical and dental treatment, and common elective procedures, etc;

The Youth Ministry will sponsor a fun day in the movies for the young members of the community;

The village and condominium representatives for arranging the enthronement and transfer of the images of St. Anthony and their help in organizing the procession;

Lectors and Commentators, a branch of the Worship Ministry, who continue to read and proclaim the Word of God during the daily celebration of the Holy Eucharist and in the novenas and prayers and in the village procession;

The Lay Ministers (EMHC) who assist

the presider priest in distributing the Holy Eucharist including their assistance in the Novenas and prayers and in the village procession;

The Altar Servers and the Sacristans for their service and assistance in celebrating the Holy Eucharist and the Novena Masses;

The Music Ministry, the Coro and other Choir groups - Hymno Amare, Serviam, Manila Chamber Singers, Koro Ilustrado, VOSA, Coro Ecclesiastico - for beautiful prayers on St. Anthony, raised in music and songs;

For Continuing Catechism Development (CCD), the Order of Franciscan Secular (OFS), MSH, and the Santuario de San Antonio Parish (SSAP) Office and Administrative Staff for their invaluable assistance and help in ticket sales and donations;

The Food and Catering Committee for the dinner and catering set up;

The Music and Entertainment group for the music band, the lights and camera set up;

The Art Exhibit Committee for the beautiful paintings organized with the Tagaytay City Jail;

The Carpentry Workshop and Electrical Workshop for their work in the grounds of the Parish;

For the Security Personnel in the Parish;

For Bel Poe for having graciously and generously agreed to serve as Chairperson for Parish Fiesta 2017;

For the Poe sisters - Micki, Zari, Milette, Shubee - who are putting on several hats yet keeping intact their cool, cool heads and their sense of humor and enthusiasm;

For the officers of the Parish Pastoral Council - Edmund, Tina, Suzette, Girlie,

Bernadette, Belen - for embracing this endeavor and keeping it classic and crisp;

And finally, for Father Reu and our special “Men in Brown” for their untiring support, encouragement and inspiring attitude, reminding us that anything is possible, in praise and in the Name of God.

Why is St. Anthony’s Novena prayed every Tuesday of the week? Because St. Anthony was buried on a Tuesday and many miracles accompanied his funeral, making it a special day to honor him throughout the years.

There are more interesting stories about St. Anthony:

“In keeping with his beloved Franciscan tradition, St. Anthony had a special love for the poor and oppressed people. Knowing this, a shopkeeper named Louise Bouffier of Toulon, France, lost her key and prayed to St. Anthony that she would give bread to the poor in his honor, if a locksmith could open her bolted shop door without force. The miracle happened, and she founded the Charity of St. Anthony Bread in gratitude. On his feast day, June 13, churches bless loaves of bread to be given to the poor, although the term ‘St. Anthony Bread’ is used to denote any offering made in thanksgiving for a favor from St. Anthony.”

St. Anthony is also the patron saint of amputees. “In Padua, a young man confessed to St. Anthony that he had kicked his mother. Later, in remorse at St. Anthony’s reproach, he cut off his own foot. St. Anthony, hearing of this drastic action, came and reattached the amputated limb.”

On these lighthearted notes, we strive to be instruments of peace and serve God in the love exemplified by our patron saint, St. Anthony of Padua.

Come the 13th of June, Happy Feast Day!

In Gratitude by: Letty Jacinto-Lopez, Dennis & Aissa Montecillo

Dear Parishioners,

You may have heard or read of unverified

and potentially misleading rumors regarding

a bomb scare in our parish. I would like

to inform you that an unidentified box

was discovered by our guards on May 29,

Monday, in the parking area and our guards

immediately followed security protocol.

Fortunately, the box contained 3 full bottles

of red wine and tested negative for any

explosive substance. We are grateful of our

security team for their continued vigilance and

expedient response to this matter. The safety

of our parishioners remains to be our topmost

priority. We thank our patron St. Anthony for

keeping our community safe and peaceful.
