The Rite of Peace
“Peace I leave you, my peace I give you; not as the world gives do I give you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” (John 14:27). Peace descends from above; it is the gift by which Christ himself prepares us to become one in the sacrament of his Body and Blood. By coming together for the Eucharist, we demonstrate our readiness to forgive each other, to accept the peace of Christ into our hearts and to exchange it with one another.
The exchange of “the peace” is not the expression of mere good wishes. It is the outward sign of a gift inwardly received and as such is marked by reverence and dignity. “The priest may give the sign of peace to the ministers but always remains within the sanctuary, so as not to disturb the celebration” (GIRM, art. 154). At the same time, “it is appropriate that each person offer the sign of peace only to those who are nearest and in a sober manner” (GIRM, art. 82). “While the sign of peace is being given, one may say, The peace of the Lord be with you always, to which the response is Amen” (GIRM, art. 154).

Mass Confusion???
“We do not tell or impose our will on God; in silence like Mary, we await an Annunciation.”

Disaster Relief Collection next weekend
Next weekend Bishop Baker has asked us to take up a collection to help the flood victims of Kerala, India, and the victims of Hurricane Florence. Please prayerfully consider a gift to help all those affected by these floods. Approximately 70% of the 34 million people in Kerala have been affected by the flooding in that region.
Within our own country many are experiencing the havoc of flooding caused by Hurricane Florence in North
and South Carolina. I suggest that this collection be a COMBINED COLLECTION to support the victims of
disasters in both Kerala, India and the Carolinas.

An Energetic Lab at St. Ann School
Students at St. Ann are having a great time learning how to become better physicists in class (I’m predicting future rocket scientists!).
The middle schoolers discussed different types of energy that are present in the environment. Afterwards they explored how energy is conserved within a system by developing a Rube Goldberg machine and demonstrating the differences between potential and kinetic energy.
October–Month of the Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary
One way to encounter Jesus is by meditating on the Mysteries of the Rosary and by modeling Mary’s response to God’s call. The Church reminds us of this each October. Join with others in praying the Rosary on Sundays at 4:00 PM in the Church. Also as we have done in the past, as a devotion to the Virgin Mary of Fatima, we will be having a procession on Saturday, October 13th, starting at 4:00 PM. We will begin with hymn and rosary inside the main church and will proceed outside and around the church campus and then back to the main church for the 5:00 PM mass. Blessings of devotional items and articles: statues, rosaries, prayer books and the like will follow.

Stewardship
The Gospels tell us time and again that the apostles did not expect a suffering Christ, and so when Jesus spoke of suffering, they plugged their ears and didn’t listen, and so were confused and scared. What about us? What’s in the Word of God that we find hard to hear and contrary to our desires and expectations? That might just be exactly what we need to hear!
