Director’s NotesI've been very fortunate to work in the theater since I was 12 yearsold. Whether being on stage, sitting in the audience or directingtalent, it is the place where I feel most at home. We in the theaterhave coined the phrases "theater magic" or "the show must go on."However behind these seemingly simple concepts is a wealth ofhard work and ingenuity.

What makes these and other phrases ring true is the incredibleamount of creative synergy that is required to breathe life into asingle piece of theater. First comes the vision, then the ability toengage others to believe, support and create. From the seamstressin the costume shop to the spot operator in the back of the theater, every person is a critical component to the overall successof the team.

I want to thank my co-director and choreographer Hector Guerrerofor his dedication to maintaining the integrity of this piece. It’s always a pleasure to work with our gifted musical director David Lamoureux. A special thanks to Patrick Hediger and the entire Lewis Family Playhouse production team for their hard work, commitment and overall effort to strive for excellence.

Out of all the shows I've been fortunate enough to direct, A Chorus Line is at the top! The concept of taking a musical theaterpiece and stripping down the set and costumes to its barestessentials, allows the actors the chance to dig deep and take theaudience into a world that they must create through acting, singing and dancing. This piece gives a true glimpse into an artist’s life and how far one is willing to pursue their dream and what one must endure to see it through. Thank you for supportingthe theatre and allowing young artists the opportunity to sharetheir gifts with you!

A CHORUS LINE FUN FACTSH A Chorus Line opened on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre on July 25, 1975. It ranfor 6,137 performances and is the fifth longest-running show in Broadway history.

H The original name of the production was to be Chorus Line, but the show’sproducers added the ‘A’ so that the show would be listed first alphabetically in allmaterials.

H A Chorus Line is based on the true stories of actual performers who came togetherto tell their tales during a series of taped workshops. They sold their stories todirector Michael Bennett for a dollar each. Eight of these performers actuallyplayed their own characters in the Broadway production.

H A Chorus Line was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1976.

H The film version of A Chorus Line was nominated for three Academy Awards andtwo Golden Globe Awards.

H The Broadway revival of A Chorus Line starred Mario Lopez and Courtney Mazza.

H Two songs from A Chorus Line, “Sing!” and “What I Did for Love,” were featured inseason two of the hit FOX television series “GLEE.”
