BOSMA VISIONARYOPPORTUNITIES
FOUNDATION
Friends,
In 2015 Bosma Enterprises celebrated 100 years of working with people who are blind and visually impaired. We looked back on all that we did in those first 100 years and wondered if the future could be nearly as exciting for our organization. Today, as we enter our second centennial, the path could not be any more exciting…or clear.
Bosma Enterprises is growing. A look at the numbers in this annual report substantiates that we just completed one of our best years ever.
Bosma’s programs team answered over 800 inquiries from Hoosiers wanting to know more about resources available for people experiencing vision loss. Additionally, we provided direct services for another 800 clients. And maybe the most impressive stat, 30 clients who were seeking employment placement are now gainfully employed at 24 companies throughout the state of Indiana.
There are some very exciting changes coming down the road for our company. We have explored expanding and found a new location that will fit our needs for many years to come. It will allow us to increase our lines of business, employ more people, expand our rehabilitation facility, warehouse and ship more products and install new technology that will among other things, enable people who are blind to operate a forklift. Make no mistake - the future is now.
The numbers from the past year are impressive but none of this would have been possible without the people behind those numbers.
The generosity of our donors…
The energy of our volunteers…
The commitment of our sta…
The undying inspiration of our clients…
Together, they make Bosma Enterprises work!

CONFIDENCE OPENS DOORS
Cori started losing his vision from retinopathy of prematurity as a child. At the age of 10, he became totally blind. “It was scary, and I didn’t know what to expect,” Cori said.
But he didn’t let that get in the way of living life on his own terms. Instead he took advantage of every opportunity.
Cori came to Bosma Enterprises through the Student Training and Employment Program while he was a student at the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Later, Cori went through Bosma Enterprises’ Rehabilitation Center and worked with Employment Services to get a job.
After more than a year of searching, Cori was offered a job at Bosma Enterprises. He now works packaging SKILCRAFT® Ice Melt. He is incredibly grateful for the freedom and financial independence Bosma Enterprises has given him. “Bosma helped me build my confidence and opened doors for me,” Cori said.
SKILCRAFT® Ice Melt is packaged and sold by Bosma Enterprises to create more jobs and directly impact the 70 percent national unemployment rate among people who are blind or visually impaired. Be ready for winter and make an impact by ordering Ice Melt at 800.362.5463.
“Bosma helped me build confidence and allowed doors to open for me to be independent and live my life.”
~ Cori
PRODUCTION OUTCOMES
Bosma Enterprises is Indiana’s largest employer of people who are blind or visually impaired. With a 70 percent unemployment rate, lack of employment is often one of the largest hurdles to independence. That’s why we create jobs through several lines of business. Our success proves employing people who are blind or visually impaired works.

“I’ve got my mojo back.” ~ Doris
When Doris went to the doctor with concerns about her vision, her worst fears were confirmed – she was diagnosed with early-stage macular degeneration.
Doris had always prided herself on her independence. She owned her own home. She traveled to far-off destinations. She cooked up adventurous meals in the kitchen to share with friends and family. Her first thought when she was diagnosed was that her active, independent life was now over, until she saw an ad for Bosma Enterprises.
When Doris called Bosma Enterprises for the first time, she had two goals.
“One of them was to stay in my own home and be independent. The second goal was to be safe,” she explains. “So – can you imagine how I felt when they said ‘That’s our goal, too.’”
Knowing how much Doris enjoyed cooking, her rehabilitation teacher planned training on how to work in the kitchen easily and safely. Doris was also encouraged to keep traveling. She was given guidance on how to do it with confidence. And now, Doris continues to travel the world.
Doris says she now feels empowered, and she has the tools to face the future with confidence.

SECURING THE FUTURE
Supporters and friends,
The Bosma Visionary Opportunities Foundation was established in 2009 to secure the future of the comprehensive vision rehabilitation services at Bosma Enterprises. Today, the Foundation is equipped and well-positioned to fund these programs, which ensure that every person who leaves the programs at Bosma is independent, empowered and prepared to succeed.
The Foundation experienced a banner year in its Charles E. Bosma Legacy Fund, which grew to nearly $4 million. The combined efforts of Bosma Enterprises and the Bosma Visionary Opportunities Foundation raised over $832,000 from individuals, foundations and corporations to support the critical needs of people who are blind or visually impaired. To cap it all off, Dining in the Dark experienced record numbers, with nearly 800 guests in attendance. Your support has been integral in funding Bosma’s programs to help more Hoosiers who are experiencing vision loss.
The Business Honor Roll program (BHR) performed better than expected by engaging 72 businesses that have committed resources to the Bosma Visionary Opportunities Foundation through supporting one of its three events: Dining in the Dark, Thomas C. Hasbrook Award Luncheon and the Bosma Visionary Golf Classic. In addition, a portion of the BHR funds were dedicated to support the construction and development of a new wellness and physical fitness center for the purpose of training rehabilitation clients. The new BHR Wellness Center will open in the spring of 2017.
Bosma Enterprises’ mission to create opportunities for people who are blind or visually impaired is alive and well. Because of your generous support, the Foundation contributes to this mission by providing financial support for projects and programs that touch the lives of our clients and their families in meaningful and helpful ways. We thank you for your continued support of our purpose to fund these mission-critical programs.
Sincerely,
Arvetta Jideonwo Brian Bosma

The Bosma Visionary Opportunities Foundation is the supporting organization for Bosma Enterprises’ programs. The Foundation works to fill a nearly $2 million budgetary shortfall each year and provides resources to grow the programs. Eighty-seven percent of every dollar donated to the Foundation is spent directly on these services. Without the critical funding from donors, Bosma would not be able to offer these life-changing programs.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM 2015-2016
This past year, our volunteers have served as sighted guides for our clients on a trip to the zoo, worked construction and landscaping, handled administrative work, facilitated games, painted and volunteered at our events to name just a few of their amazing accomplishments. We cannot thank them enough for giving us the gift of their time.
Our volunteers arrive early and they stay late. We could not make the impact that we do without them. They’re a critical resource and willing to work for the betterment of the Indianapolis community.

WE DEDICATE THIS ANNUAL REPORT IN MEMORY OF DEAN WHITE
Dean White, the Hoosier philanthropist and the Bosma Visionary Opportunities Foundation’s first million dollar donor, died this past September. The gift from the Dean and Barbara White Family Foundation included a challenge for others to give and generate hundreds of thousands in additional gifts. It has made a lasting impact on creating opportunities for people who are blind or visually impaired.
“Dean White was an amazing business leader and he and his wife Barbara were extraordinarily generous philanthropists,” said Brian Bosma, chairman of the Bosma Visionary Opportunities Foundation. “Their support for the Bosma Visionary Opportunities Foundation will make a significant difference for people who are blind and visually impaired for generations to come.”
Mr. White had a longstanding commitment to the Hoosier State and his generosity made the lives of people in Indiana better and will continue to do so long after his death. We would like to thank Mr. White for his kindness and support of the mission of Bosma Enterprises.
“THE ONLY THING WORSE THAN BEING BLIND IS HAVING SIGHT
