Letter from our Director

If you’ve heard of Mutual Ground, you probably understand that our agency provides education, awareness and life-changing services that empower individuals, families and the community to end the

cycle of domestic and sexual violence. But what does that mean? To a lot of people, what that means

is that we operate a domestic violence shelter. We do that, but, we also do so much more.

This past year we have been on a mission to raise awareness that Mutual Ground is much more than a

shelter. So, in this report I want to share with you some things we do that you may not know!

For instance…

We operate a crisis hotline that victims and family members can call simply to talk, ask questions

or request services. Telephone counselors are available 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week.

We dispatch victim advocates, within one hour of a hospital request, to local emergency

departments to provide advocacy and support to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

We accompany victims to court and provide support while they seek orders of protection, testify

against their abusers and manage other complex legal challenges.

We provide individual counseling, group counseling and family enrichment activities to help

children and families heal from the effects of trauma.

We provide services to all genders, including trans and gender non-conforming individuals.

The list goes on to include housing advocacy, workforce re-entry services, educational advocacy as well

as vital prevention education services in our local schools. Mutual Ground is the sole provider of

comprehensive domestic and sexual violence services for all of Kendall County and the southern part of

Kane County.

As we recap the past year in this report, we want to thank our supporters for helping us get to where we

are now – providing services for thousands struggling with domestic or sexual violence and its aftermath.

We are asking everyone to help us get the word out through talking to friends, family, co-workers,

classmates and neighbors about all the services Mutual Ground provides, and ensure that everyone

knows that help is available, at any time.

Impacted By Mutual Ground

24-Hour Hotline:

6,425 people received crisis intervention,

guidance, support, information and

referrals.

Emergency Shelter:

314 women and their children had a safe

place to call home, with counseling, legal

advocacy, vocational and housing

guidance, and children’s program.

Emergency Response:

195 victims of domestic and sexual

violence who were receiving care in area

emergency rooms were provided

emotional support, advocacy and

resource information.

Counseling & Supportive Services:

1,081 adults and children in our

community received domestic violence

services and 218 survivors received

sexual assault services, free of charge.

Legal Advocacy:

Our Legal Advocates provided

2,461 hours of assistance with

orders of protection, child

custody, and other complex

legal challenges.

Prevention Education:

2,480 education programs were

presented to student (K-12) in 103

schools throughout Southern Kane,

Kendall and DuPage Counties.

play with and supervise children, provide pro bono legal and professional services and spread
