Dear Friends,

Ten years ago, a small group of pantries and volunteers started on a journey of faith. This journey had begun with the Red Cross of

Hamilton County, but was now taking its next step. This small group didn’t start with a grand plan or many resources, but most

assuredly trusted in God to lead the way. We would like to take some time this year to recognize those volunteers, food pantries

and programs who make up the heart and hands and soul of what became Hamilton County Harvest Food Bank.

Just some comparisons from the beginning to now: network support began with four pantries and now extends to over forty

programs; yearly food distributions have grown from 32,056 pounds to 126,338 pounds; food distributions were limited to

nonperishable cans and boxes but now include fruits, vegetables, and meat, in addition to healthy nonperishable staples; original

supplies relied solely on donations, purchases now account for 30%. Our volunteer base is much broader and continues to grow.

2019 volunteer hours totaled 7,012 altogether.

What has not changed? HCH Food Bank began as a LOCAL network and this remains our greatest source of strength and

purpose. By seeking out LOCAL solutions and listening to what the programs we serve need and want, and working closely with

them, we have expanded and grown to fill those needs. What has not waivered is our trust in God to provide, not just food, but

resources both monetary and human to serve our community in the best ways possible.

This year, we will surpass over 1,000,000 pounds of food that have been collected, purchased, sorted, and then distributed to the

programs we work with. By Working Together WITH YOU, we have provided over 800,000+ meals.

Thank YOU for joining in the Journey!

25,520 food insecure individuals in Hamilton County; about 1 in 13 for our county population. 10,420

are children. 7th highest Indiana county for number of food insecure individuals. The United Way Asset

Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) report shows 5% of HC households below the poverty

line and 16% below the ALICE threshold, which combined equals 24,000+ HC households.

In 2019, HCH distributed food for 105,282

meals, which came from the 126,338 pounds

HCH collected, processed, and distributed. As

the chart shows, this is a 294% increase from

2009.

HCH organizational help with Stamp Out Hun-

ger and Pack the Cruiser Food Drives resulted

in 53,783 pounds of food additionally going

directly to food pantries and summer lunch

programs.

The Types of Food HCH distributes concentrates on healthy

nonperishable staples, meat, and produce.

Total Nonperishable distributions from the Food Bank to-

taled 102,346 pounds, with food pantries receiving 83% of

these distributions. Meals for Kids programs consisting of

Summer Lunch and Weekend Backsacks each received ap-

proximately 8% of total nonperishable distributions.

92% increase in meat distributions over 2018, including the

first Spring Meat Giveaway which totaled 3,918 pounds.

15,878 pounds of produce distributed, even with the rough

spring weather start. 94 % of donations came from the No-

blesville and Fishers Farmers Markets. Twenty-two pro-

grams received produce and/or meat distributions last year.

In 2019, 33% of the food we distributed was

purchased, a total of $50,758. These healthy

staples largely due to the generosity of the Mei-

jer Simply Give program. In 2020 HCHFB will be

expanding our purchasing base.

Volunteers are needed for all aspects of our

programming. 2019 volunteer hours totaled

7,012 hours; Volunteer activities plus all HCHFB

food donations and distributions are captured

in Food Bank Manager software.
