College Background

Creek Street Christian College has a long history. Established in 1981 Creek Street Christian College offers a high quality education in a caring environment to the families of Bendigo and surrounds.

Over the years Creek Street Christian College has grown from 27 students to 292 students with young people in 3 year old, 4 year old and Prep to Year 10 classes.

With all of our students on the one centrally located Bendigo campus we are able to offer some unique opportunities which make use of all of the college facilities at all of the year levels. By way of example, recently our Early Learning Centre students spent time with their Year 5 buddies and have borrowed from our college library.

At the Junior School level, Prep to Year 4, a strong emphasis is placed on areas of Literacy and Numeracy and parents are regularly kept informed of their children’s progress via written feedback in our Record Folders and our College Learning Management System, CANVAS.

Individual learning styles and levels of ability and interests are catered for through a variety of teaching methods including the use of various thinking tools, individual and group work, explicit teaching, touch screen monitors, iPads and computer labs. Handwriting, Phonics, Grammar and times tables remain key foundational life skills and their value is reinforced throughout the school.

Our Prep to Year 6 classes all commence the day with a period of individual reading during which the teachers have time to hear students read and monitor their progress. Communication with parents to support various aspects of student educational development is highly valued.

As students move into Middle School, Year 5 to Year 7, they are gradually introduced to a wider range of subjects and a larger number of different teachers thus assisting their transition into Senior School. The one-to-one iPad program is introduced at Year 7 thus building on the already varied delivery of the curriculum.

A recently introduced CBD (Career Bound Discovery) week program has provided Year 5 to Year 9 students with time to study in a Bendigo CBD classroom. Planned and incidental life-learning experiences with guest speakers presenting career snapshots have been a feature of these weeks.

Moving into Senior School leadership opportunities are continued and built upon with the college having a Prefect program at Year 7 and Year 10. Students are encouraged to develop their leadership skills and grow and develop personally as well as academically.

A wide range of electives are offered at Year 9 and 10 level which include VET subjects, VCE subjects and additional subjects which cater for a wide range of interests and future career paths.

It is our belief that the opportunities we present to students will form a strong foundation for the remainder of their lives, regardless of their future pathway. Most importantly we believe that we are helping students discover all God made them to be.

Offering a seamless education from Playgroup to Early Learning Centre to School is central to our college goals. Supporting families who want their children educated in a Christian environment is paramount to our thinking.

Creek Street Christian College has proven itself over many years to be a school where young people can be encouraged to develop in all areas of their lives. This includes their academic, physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. A testament to this history is the number of ex-students who now send their own children to Creek Street Christian College.

Principal’s Report

How proud are we of our amazing College community?

As I reflect on 2016 it is clear it was a year of both highlights and significant challenges; a year of growth and development for us all.

At all times our Christian parent, staff and student community has worked together to support one another and as a result I have no doubt that we have grown into a stronger school community.

Our students have reflected on life and the things that are truly important; the things that we remember about people we have lost and the things we appreciate about those that remain among us.

Our parents have supported families who have experienced loss and have been there for our staff when they have needed help too.

And our amazing staff has kept the students and their learning and wellbeing paramount in their thinking thus enabling these same students to make great progress personally, spiritually and academically. At CSCC our greatest joy is seeing our young people grow and develop in all areas of their lives.

2016 saw us continue with our college values with emphasis on Optimism, Vision, Excellence and Respect. Some valuable discussions have taken place around these topics all coming from a Biblical perspective, around knowing who we are in Christ, how much we are loved by God and then our relationships with others that flow from that understanding.

Our physical facilities started to take on a different shape with works commencing on our original classrooms to transform them into modern well-equipped and flexible learning spaces.

Our gardens began to come to life in many ways with some amazing outdoor learning areas added and our beautiful Early Learning Centre started to take shape. All of these facilities being built and put in place in preparation for opening in 2017.

We are very thankful for the past year. We thank God for His provision, His comfort, His enabling and His peace; things that only He can truly provide. We honour Him and thank Him for our college which has always been His and will remain so in the coming years.

May God bless you and your family as we continue to work together and support one another while our wonderful young people grow and learn at Creek Street Christian College.

Mrs Coral E Maxwell College Principal

Strategic Planning and Development The College has a strategic planning mechanism which involves 7 key development areas. These are:

Student Wellbeing

Staff Wellbeing

Faith

Teaching and Learning

Community

Environment and Infrastructure

Governance and Leadership On a four‐year rotational basis the leadership team, in conjunction with the College Council, reviews each of these areas in detail to evaluate the working documents which unpin each one, and to add further strategies to develop and enhance these aspects of the college. All other areas are also present and reviewed as an ongoing process. For 2016 our major focus areas were Environment and Infrastructure and Governance and Leadership. Our staff all read ‘The Leader In Me’ by Stephen Covey and have since developed some key strategies which allow students to lead in a wider range of areas. The College has also developed a Master Plan which is driving the steady development of our facilities. Our aim to maintain quality buildings and surrounds for our students and community to enjoy has become far more obvious with three major projects getting underway.

Thank you to all of our staff, consultants and contractors who have worked together to support us throughout the year. We look forward to 2017 with great anticipation.
